Today an approach and landing on runway 03.
All with actual conversation and ATC.

@@mightymkl Yes, Michaël, I returned on July 1st and now miss Lanzarote very much. I absolutely loved the island. The volcanic landscape is much to my liking as well and the wonderful weather which is not too hot and always a delightful breeze for cooling. During my visit though it was quite windy, but still wonderful. Cesar Manrique's projects are breathtaking as well as the house and library of Jose Saramago. Timanfaya is fabulous and so much more. I like Lanzarote so much that I'm viewing the internet for a rental apartment. 🙂
Now I see how it looks from pilot perspective. Usually watching from Lanzarote streaming webcam! :)
Unfortunately it is not a live stream! But you never know what the future will give us.

I just watched the streaming webcam for the first time for about an hour. I am glad this video was available because I also wanted to see from the pilot's seat. (July 5, Oklahoma City)

@alanrtment porter yeah it kinda sucks right now.. :( was a lovely stream to watch before, especially if you could watch around 6am in the morning when the lights on the airport and runway we're turned on and life and activity began. Pro actively monitoring Flightradar and the stream together 😎

Question: this is an airport which nearly looks like an aircraft carrier :) aren't these airports notorious for sudden wind sheer or gusts? You don't only land on them in summer, but in winter, which would be the main season for the Canaries. Also: I always thought the modern aircraft would land automatically, guided by the ILS. But you always land manually. Any reason or just because you won't get out of training?

This airport is know for it's wind shear possibilities... But we are trained for that. It could happen any time of the year... It really depends the wind and it's strength...
About automatic landings... We actually doe 99% of the landings ourselves! The departure as well as the landing are the most fun parts in our job. So we do them ourselves. It is also good to continue practice manual flying. The other thing is that the ground systems of the ILS should be CAT III capable... otherwise we don't even can make a autoland!

Nou jaaaa ... dit is alweer een ouwe opname van je Michael en had deze nog niet opgemerkt ;-) Nog niet op Lanzarote geweest maar nooit geweten dat je meteen via de oceaan de baan opkomt met de landing ... Mooi om te zien man !! heb net de livestream gevonden van Lanzarote airport live dus weer iets moois erbij gevonden om naar te kijken haha ! In februari vlieg ik met transavia naar lanzarote, ik ben benieuwd! Normaliter wordt er dus op 21 geland?
Eigenlijk is het altijd 03... Dus 21 gebeurd niet vaak.

I hear Dutch, English, Spanish. In which language do you do the control? So confusing.
We use English to speak to air traffic control. In Spain you are allowed to speak in Spanish to the controller. That makes the situational awareness a little less... but I do understand it a bit... so no problem for me. Dutch is what we speak to each other.
Hope it solves the confusion.

Dear CaptainAirbus,
We have a STAR (standard arrival (route)) for every runway. This brings you towards the runway... and depending what kind of approach you will do (ILS, VOR, NDB, RNAV) you will continue with that one.
More common you will get vectors for the last part. The ATC controller guides you to the final track towards the runway. The last part we have to do ourselves.

Mijn opleiding heeft 2 jaar geduurd. Het kan in 1,5 jaar. De plaats van de opleiding hangt vaak af van de school die je kiest. Mijn opleiding vond geheel in Spanje plaats.

Sometimes wind makes it difficult to land at Lanzarote but a bumpy landing as in tough landing can always happen! ;-)
Daniel AJ -Daniel19280- im watching from Lanzarote! My landing was smooth and not bumpy at all... :-) its a beautiful approach.
Considering all landings are effectively a controlled crash and the pilots are fighting the coastal crosswinds, any seasoned traveler would expect the odd bump or bounce. Any landing you walk away from is a good one believe me. I’ve had worse at Birmingham BHX

why was video speed fast?
The first 3 minutes and a bit are fast forwarded because.... It is a nice view but... (in my opinion) on normal speed gets boring.
Than at final up to vacating the runway it is normal speed. Thereafter again fast forwarded...
I am sorry if it is disturbing you...
I tried to make the film not boring and wanted to show as much as possible.

Volcanic landscapes are really beautiful if you like to walk and/or ride. It has a great diversity of environments, and this island does not have gigantic ugly hostels everywhere on seafront :)
It also have some great kite surf spots!
If you are more into touristic activities, or sunbathing, fuerteventura and tenerife may be more suited to you though. (I don't know the others ;) )
Is this same pilot co pilot from Pilot Eye Swiss Air flights? Recognize their voices I think.

Just wanted to tell you that all take-offs are done without auto pilot and that 99% of all landings are done manually. The 1 % done with the autopilot is mostly because of low visibility.

I hear someone cutting on the horn, speaking Spanish! English is the international language and has been for many years (about 1951 or so) but some pilots, in remote areas, often, do NOT heed the rules! Of course the Canaries are close to Spain, but aviation rules are rules to comply with, for everyone! We also have heard many times, where they do NOT keep a sterile cockpit either, they converse with each other in their native language. I suppose that is acceptable on very long, trans-oceanic flights, but rules are rules! We were taught to follow them! Not doing so can and does cause fatalities! (Like that impatient KLM pilot at Tenerife!)
