    While currently new guidelines suggest taking it on both arms and picking the one with the higher number as "your" blood pressure, it has been shown that this increases the amount of people diagnosed with (and given drugs for) hypertension. The traditional guidelines was for consistency to measure the left arm (for reasons in the video).
    Regardless of which arm you choose, if you're unhealthy, it's likely that it doesn't matter which arm you choose. If there's a huge difference between the arms, well...that's a BAD sign and you need to stop watching UA-cam and see your doctor NOW.

    Dr. Story You sir are better than the three cardiologist I have gone to! Aren't we just so sick of idiots! This last biologically male doctor lol I went to had a female nurse who tried to take my blood pressure on my right arm. Was offended when I insisted she do it on the left. Blood pressure was through the roof . The so called cardiologist listened to my heart for two seconds then wrote an Rx for two drugs! Later on I got a call from the nurse who asked me how many mgs of one of the drugs he had prescribed . I hung up on her. The incompetence is astonishing! Thanks for giving real usable advice!

    Another problem to be aware of when getting a BP reading at the doctor's office is they may be using a broken cuff. That's happened to me before where the reading for the systolic was 60 points too high.

    Also consider that a tight object (watch, bracelet, etc) around your wrist area may effect blood pressure readings. Even if you remove the item just before the reading is taken. Consider freeing your wrist while in the waiting room so your blood pressure reading is more accurate. No one wants a Doctor pushing medication from an inaccurate reading or terrifying you with your possible immediate demise.

    Great video, you had me chuckling at parts 😉
    Don’t get me started on pronouns!! Definitely puts my BP up!
    Good point about not being well, it made me think of those who might be experiencing hay fever at the moment. The higher levels of histamine in their bodies may well impact on their BP.
    Shall we keep going to see how many other reasons we can come up with? lol 😂 😂
    Actually I’ve been currently told to monitor my BP because it’s on the high side (I’m desperately trying to avoid medication!), but I’ve not been well, so I’m not concerned as I expect it’s a knock on effect. Although, my monitor is occasionally recording irregular heartbeats. I really don’t want any complications! lol
    Nevertheless, I have noticed when I take antihistamines, my BP does come down - so a good time to take a reading! lol
    Anyway - thank you once again for another super video.

    I looked up your suggestion that we should calibrate our home blood pressure device and the information states that they are pre-calibrated by the factory and a regular person cannot calibrate the kind of over-the-counter BP devices we purchase.

    • @AdamJStoryDC
      @AdamJStoryDC  15 днів тому +2

      They're pre-calibrated, but over time can wear out (it's a machine). Take it to the doctors' office. Compare to a real blood pressure machine.

    • @KDMDiz
      @KDMDiz 15 днів тому +2

      I can do that, but I've never been to a doctor's office where they do a blood pressure reading properly. They consistently violate all of the rules for how to do it that you've laid out so clearly in your excellent videos. One of the big ones that's happened to me lately is doing an intake interview while taking my blood pressure. You're not supposed to talk while you're getting a BP reading.

    We should recover the use of the mercurial sphygmomanometer.
    I owned a Validated Omron Fuzzy Logic Intellisence Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor. BUT the readings are always different when compared with readings of a mercurial sphygmomanometer.
    I got the scientific report on the evaluation and validation of the Omron and report says:
    "The proportion of values agreeing to within 5, 10, and 15 mmHg were 88, 99 and 100% for systolic and 86, 100 and 100% for diastolic blood pressure ...."
    Aneroid dials will need to be factory certified and recalibrated every 6 months.

    Even cardiologist check on right arm,they don't remove shirt from arm ,talking during bp check ,release mercury too fast ,
    They ignore 93/145 as it normal,
    If a person take bisoprolol 2.5 mg at night and in morning his BP is 80/110
    Is that normal ?

    "They" as a singular pronoun when you don't know, or a role could be either, or the person is a hypothetical, isn't a new thing -- singular "they" been around over a thousand years... older than even English (which changes ALL the bloody time...)... so it's silly and more than a little sexist to assume nurses are "she", because back before you were born(you aren't THAT old) a male nurse would have been called a "medic" or something.... You can learn.
