That comb jelly with the rainbow colored lights looked unreal. I have to learn more about them. It looked like it was the whole body that closed around the prey. Did I see that right? Interesting.
Yes, who in the whole world does not like Sir David Attenborough's wonderful soothing voice and admire all the years he has explored and shared with us, this Blue Planet we call Earth? 90+ years old, love you Sir!
illusiwind Probably one of these people complaining that it's not in 1080p. They don't seem to realize that things weren't always that high of quality, and should take free entertainment as it's given.
I remember we didn’t have cable in 1984 when I was a 4th-5th grader. So inevitably every now and again there wasn’t anything good on any of the three main channels, so you’d have to settle on the last possible resort.......PBS. Even if something like this were on, you’d be bummed because, let’s face it, this is crap when you’ve been watching quality programming like Airwolf and The A-Team. But at that point in our lives bad tv was better than no tv, so you reluctantly turned that oversized clunky dial back to PBS. Before you knew it, you were sucked in, mesmerized by the footage and the silly narration provided. Man, those were the good old days.
There are so many deep sea creatures ‘fashionista’, donning themselves in colorful lights. Mankind needs to study jellyfishes more to: 1. Figure out how they efficiently generate electricity in the Oceans 2. How they efficiently remove excessive salt out of their systems. Jellyfish breath through their ultra thin membrane. How does the membrane prevents excess salt absorption? (Or other unique saltwater marine animals. This knowledge can help solve water scarcity)
I bet you that those rainbow lights on the jellyfish would look totally different in different light. The only reason they are rainbow is because white light is being used to see them :D
When I was a kid, I was swimming in the Black Sea on the coast of Romania, and something caused a bunch of random fish and creatures to end up close to the shore - you know like the kind of fish that you'd normally expect to be at the bottom of the sea. And among those random things there were these spectacular little rainbow jelllyfish that would shimmer and light up just like in this video. They were of different shapes, but I remember one in particular that looked like a double helix with the lights running down in spirals. I stared at it for a long time and could pick it up (with water in my hands) to take a closer look. It was absolutely incredible. And a day later I found one undisturbed spot where there were hundreds of them! One of the best sights I've ever seen.
Those are ctenophores (also called comb jellies). They aren't actually producing the rainbow effect themselves; the light that's shining on them is diffracting and being scattered by combs of tiny hair-like structures called cilia running in those rows along their bodies. They beat their cilia combs rhythmically like paddles to swim, and when that happens, the rainbow effect appears to flash.
It's evolution and emergence. Everything is, deep within the natural order. Religion instead, it's against the natural order, an abomination that denies who you really are.
Bruce Mueller My timing was a bit off, it's even older than that. I know this because it's from the BBC documentary series Blue Planet (as seen in the title of this video), which started airing back in 2001. It's on UA-cam because BBC is an awesome network that has come to understand that distributing it's older content for free on the internet is great for society and science.
I have a feeling if you ate a comb jelly, youd be as smart as Elon Musk. Lol. But seriously though, i wonder what medicines or drugs they could make from them.
What a magnificent video! Thanks to channel owner. Very much appreciative indeed. Dear viewers: Just for the sake of clarifying some misconceptions, don’t you all agree that the absolute credit, acknowledgment & gratitude is entitled to (ALLAH) GOD Almighty. The only TRUE GOD. The creator as well as the preserver of the whole universe. Not the alleged Mother Nature! Mother Nature is his creation. And certainly not the big lie EVOLUTION. Isn’t that right? All species/wonders including human beings haven’t created themselves. GOD Almighty did. No alleged associates/partners with him. Consequently, he must be solely worshipped, feared & praised all time. I am not trying to make someone to convert, it’s up to you. It is your own choice to decide. Accept my greetings.
I don't think we got enough shots of the moon.

Are the Comb jellies related to siphonophores?
no
The Oceans are dying
sick
I think there is a giant TITAN Lavithen in the darkest deepest places in the 95% undiscovered parts of the ocean
They're probably so many more creatures deep in the sea that we'll never discover.
Take Acid and watch this!!!🤯
The almighty comb jellies
And the beginning?
I hate jellyfish.. And those shown in the video doesn't help my image of them beeing alien-like monsters.. D:
If you dont like alien like creatures then I'm sure you hate Squid, Octopus, and cuttlefish too
Have you seen the Man of War?? That thing is beyond scary looking!!

The birds can walk on water.
Do the comb jellies make those electronic noises or is it just for drama?
Gotta be drama, sounds exactly like the jellyfish creatures that spin around in Star Fox Assault lol

The source footage from the Blue Planet episodes were only in 480p I think, so there's no reason to upload in higher def

oh so it's an old video, thanks mate
Np, I think it was broadcasted ~10 years ago
Very old. Its broadcasted in 2011
Afnan Zahran actually older than that, by about 10 years. It came out in 2001.
Wow. The Matrix
What is the name of this animal that gives rainbow lights ؟؟؟؟؟؟؟

They had RGB before it was cool
Video qualities are god damn so low
Where are the SpongeBob memes???
this is getting ridiculous guys............. 480p...................................
Bruce Mueller Considering this was shot about 10 years ago, we're lucky to get it jn that high of quality.
Not sure how you could possibly know that. If it were true, then it has no place being uploaded to UA-cam in 2017.
