As a Stylist, I get asked a lot of questions about what I have to do on the job. "How Does a Stylist Call in Clothes? " and "How to I write a good email?" are definitely two of the main questions!

Thank you for this. I'm graduating college in May and have really been struggling with how to get started on my career. I feel like I'm so behind. I've put together my own photo shoots with friends but I need to take my styling to the next level with professionals and brands.
Amazing! test shoots are always a great start! I would also encourage you to work outside of your comfort zone with working with 'friends'. try photographers with a strong portfolio and links to magazines! Definitely start pushing to contact brands, magazines LOVE brands! xxx

I really enjoyed your video. It was extremely informative! What advice would you give someone who wants a career in styling but isn't sure which aspect to pursue? celebrity styling, editorial, and or personal styling etc. I think you should record a video on how to get your start in fashion styling industry. unorthodoxDEE do you think that getting with an agent would make the job easier, you wouldn't have to get out and hussle the agency would do it all
You can collab with photographers and makeup artists and models and submit them to magazines. A lot of them accept submissions

I am a beginning in fashion/ wardrobe/ personal styling and I followed this video STEP. BY. STEP. and I was able to get two MAJOR local boutiques to allow me to pull clothes from them WITHOUT a publication (magazine) backing me up. I did it on my own WITH your help. I seriously cant thank you enough and I hope one day in the future when I'm established, that we will work together

What you say about the PR what do they do? Do they help you get started?
PR's are often middle men for particular brands. I recommend watching the second part to this video 'when they say no' and also 'how to attend PR events'. to get some more info xx

First off I wanted to send gratitude your way for providing this information. Quick question, when you are calling in clothes/ pulling are you paying for the clothes upfront or just providing and imprint of a credit card you will be using if anything were to happen. I surely know that they aren't giving the clothes without that info. Just wanted clarity!

Hi lovel! I am glad that you loved it!! The subject is up to you! just use something that will catch their eye. for example "cover shoot editorial", " fashion editorial request", "stylist request", "celebrity photoshoot". It really is up to you - but pul out the important part of your email. x

PR's and bands usually document this and give you a form. I recommend watching my vlog on pulling, how to pack and also mastering the process of a photo shoot. This will help you beyond this tutorial I created years ago Queen! 🙌🏾💖
What advice would you give to a model that is looking to pull clothing for their own shoots? Can they still approach PR and designers the same way? Or would it maybe be abit more difficult?

Do you think working as a stylist for an agency or being a freelance editorial stylist is better? How much is the pay would I be able to live in nyc. What type of stylist is paid the best editorial? And are they paid by the day or hour or page?

I think The best type of industry to get into is Commercial Styling.
Most clients like to pay a day rate, I think if you were doing personal styling then you would look at hourly rates.
Remember rates are individual and always based on your experience and the services you offer.
I really think if you look through a few of my videos it can help you especially in this area where you can help distinguish who you are as a brand!

After you style the client do you take clothes back after they come off them or do you have to take to cleaners first?
Hi Brandee! Deff subscribe (if you haven't) and turn on the notifications as I will be speaking a little on this! If I have bought clothes with my or my clients money. Buying and returning is the preferred method. In some cases you will find that clients want to keep the pieces but this tends to be in films/adverts etc. in case they need to reshoot! Does this process work for boutiques when ordering from brands? I have found that when ordering merchandise the pieces are not what you expect sometimes.
I haven't got much experience in terms of the 'buying side'. I would definitely use my email template when contacting them. I would also suggest if you are finding that the merchandise is different when you receive it. try to set up a day when you can go in and view the samples or ask to have samples sent of the product so you know exactly what you are getting! I always mention commissioned editorials are the best way to go but things such as social media following/influencers are now all a different way of being able to get your hands on clothing without it being for a magazine! xxxo
Hi I am a upincoming freelance stylist I be styled a few shoots with clothing from thrift stores just for test shoots as I go on y styling gets better and I start to find my groove so I just have a question , do you think I should continue in doing test shoots and improving my editorial shoots or should I just go far it and start reaching out to or contacts because I feel like that wouldn't take me serious based on few shoots so far or maybe I'm just being self conscious.
Hi Ashani, I am happy to hear you are doing your own photoshoots! I know a lot of people who haven't had the confidence to start! this yet - GO GIRL!! My advice is that at any stage you can make requests to showrooms and stores. Things like commission letters and magazine/publication features are golden tickets to this! I would advise you to test your luck and try some submission shoots (check my building portfolio video for more info). But you have a stronger chance if you can get a commission letter from a magazine and let the shoot you are doing get published. Most designer showrooms are not really interested in loaning for test shoots. I hope this has helped, Erica x

How do I get booked, where should I be looking for work?
Hi Lovely, this is a question I can answer with a straight forward answer. The aim of my channel is to tackle all aspects of styling, So I would encourage you tot take some time out an d invest in yourself by watching my videos.
