Oliver Ford Davies (Father Barnes) is another solid veteran of UK Theater. I never see him in anything else (he’s always noticeable as a clergyman) without flashback to this role for him. A priceless face: the face of late 20th-century religious doubt - a theme which James constantly revisits. The author was an genius
I’ve loved spotting Patsy Byrne (Millicent Gentle in this production) since my first memory of her in I, Claudius. She always has aim intriguing role. In Claudius she plays a supplier of poisons to Livia - herself an accomplished poisoner… ah, the memories of les neiges d’antan!
PD James as always delivers an intelligent gripping story which holds your attention to the end without the usual gore and blood which we usually have on screen
if your a talk talk customer you can't use the link to find episode 5.very annoying when you've been hooked on the first four then find an episode missing.
How come there is no episode five 😮. Yet someone else,🤔 has UPLOADER it .find it bit strange 😢. This one is tedious, but want to see what happens 😅. These spoken synopsis 😮😢 at the beginning, makes ONE feel but thick😳
Why do the British feel the need to be self-righteous and holier-than-thou with the police. Few countries has a police force as mild and reasonable as their police force. Most of us have to put up with much tougher police, and do not nearly as many rights as the British people vis-à-vis the police. Yet you have these laughable situations where a policeman, quite politely, asks if her can look around the house, to be met by a reply by someone brimming with self-righteousness and accusing the system of being a police state. In most countries, the police have the right to search without a warrant. If you don't like your police, by all means give them to us. We'll welcome them with open arms, and be delighted with their politeness and gentleness. And we certainly wouldn't treat them with the rudeness and intolerance which seems to be the norm in Britain.
Why do you think it's the norm? Because of television programmes? Still, it is true the British don't like being questioned, nor anyone pulling rank. And the police are not all sweetness and light: ask anyone with a darkish complexion.
Because in England we are brought up to feel that we are innocent until proven guilty, not just an abstract. Also, the English are/were very private, 'an English man's home is his castle '. It's a very important principle. But it's not unique to us, I know other nationalities that consider there home as inviolate. Why do you think that we should be different?
where is episode 5 // watched and enjoyed all afternoon, BUT where is episode 5 /// this is damned annoying when having followed 4 episodes we are stuck at episode 5!!!!
38:00 "He tought he was paying for his mistakes. Maybe now" 🤪 Sorry, but maybe your father did a mistake and surely your mother did the mistake, didn't they???
Oh now we've got an interesting cliff hanger going on! I didn't expect the young lady's suicide and I would not be surprised if it turned out to be murder the way this story is going
There is not much point in posting an incomplete serial to UA-cam. Why is just Episode 5 missing ? About 150 minutes of viewing come up against a big gap of 50 minutes. Take the whole lot down if you cannot do any better.
These episodes are just brilliant, British acting at its best.

Also Tat Whaley - perfect casting, perfect acting (the boy Darren Wilkes)
and a guest appearance from bubbly patsy byrne "nursie" (black adder), great stuff, many thanks
So good 👍👍👍🥰Brilliant Actors
Thank you Rudolph.

Thank you!
Wendy Hiller!! Enough said. Watch "Separate Tables" if you want to see her at her finest.
And “Miss Morrison’s Ghosts,” (1981) with Hannah Gordon (Richard Bellamy’s second wife in Upstairs, Donwstairs)
Separate tables was a great film. Vic Damone sang the theme tune. X
Thanks for the upload 👍 !! xd
I recognise locations in norwich and norfolk
Luv PD James
Enjoyed the movie. Thanks.
For those asking where e5 is... it is titled slightly differently as 'a taste of death'.
😮no
Dagleish asst in another PDJames series 10 years later as an attorney who was murdered.
'Commander Dalgleish and Miss Miskin' - she's an Inspector! Glad things have changed. Still more to do though, these attitudes persist.

She was also very beautiful when she was young. Check on her with Rex Harrison in Pygmalion.
@@eunicechan2486 She was hideously ugly when she was younger but actually looked better when she got old.

Like the other comments where is episode 5?
@34:28 Father Barnes doubts the difference between Good and Evil; that's the second time he's speculated on the futility of faith. I think He Dun It.
😂 not Father 😢😮😢😮😢😮
He's reverend or Vicar 😢.
ONLY Catholic's are called Father 😮
Where is the ending?
