Lovely watch but I have to say I'm surprised at the minor QC issues. I've got a bronze Heimdallr turtle and it is about as close to perfect as you could ask for. Great review as always, you really do have an eye for the details. I never would have picked up the long tail on the minute hand!
My tango and coal Bliger's screw in crown was at first hard to locate into, I looked at it under my usb scope and saw swarf in the thread end and up in the crown itself which I am glad I got out as if that over time had been pushed into the movement it would have destroyed it. Gave it a good isopropyl cleansing and then a dab of silicone oil on the thread and has been like butter since.
Good tip, swarf is probably an occupational hazard at this price point.
I see your point but I think the hand lengths are just fine. The 6, 9, 12 on the original Seiko extend towards the centre with a line to make up the difference. It looks to be a darn fine watch. You must have been kicking yourself when that case back got scratched. I’m looking forward to your review.
I own a San Martin Turtle with a Kanagawa dial, it's incredible. I also own the SM 62 Mas. Both great watches, but don't know if the extra cost is justified against a Heimdallr. I own a Seiko SKX and a Heimdallr SKX, and believe ,e the heimdallr is better despite being a third of the price.
I've gotta get a heimdallr!

Nice watch Dan , again have a couple of San Martins in my Ali-x basket - the 62mas and one of there 'black warriors' both look great but it's just saving enough pennies to get them :) take care mate , nice to see your sunburn has went away lol :))

The crown on my $40 US Vostok works as it should. Too many of these $200+US watches have rough threads.

look at the Heimdallr Turtle been around for a while and worth a look.
The only signs of wear on my watch collection is found, always, on the case back! I'm extremely careful with them but it's amazing how much damage a hairy wrist can inflict on stainless steel. I've never been sure about the Turtle, I'm very much into the 6105 8110 aesthetic and I've yet to add a San Martin to my collection altho' I often look at them. As for your comments on your buddy's Seiko, that's also my experience with bezel action. I have a Samurai and Tuna-Lite (SNE 497) both have atrocious bezel action easily the worst in my collection and given they were both over £400 a disgrace. I got lucky with alignment on the Samurai and have modded the Tuna-Lite with a stainless steel bezel insert and shroud + decent bracelet but needless to say I don't ever move the bezel because it's so depressing.

They are showing up Seik. Cape Cod cloths will take out light scratches on polished cases
They are ok those cape cod cloths. I have had even better luck with Autosol!
Your a very funny guy Dan and I bet you don't even know it. I missed the chat about the speck of dust after you compared it to a boil on a supermodel and I couldn't stop laughing. Keep up that style and you I will be pushing you ahead of ILW and JOMW. I currently have a shoddy stem issue with my San Martin Marine Master but have still just ordered this turtle for 133 GBP in the Ali sale. Just off to watch your full review

What's the diameter of the bezel?
Is it comparable with Steeldive's Captain Willard? Would love to see a side by side comparison.
Warts and all, *that* is the kind of watch Seiko should be offering. If a Chinese micro-brand can do it, surely one of the biggest names in the business could. I find this and San Martin's 62MAS homage way more attractive than comparable Seikos. If you wanted that sort of finish and materials from a Seiko, you be spending, what?, $700? $1000?
I've got their bronze version of their other turtle homage, it's a gorgeous watch, unfortunately the other day it was quite toasty here, toasty enough to weaken the adhesive on the bezel insert apparently because the damned things fallen off somewhere between my house and work... now i have to try to source a replacement.

Don't care for the name splashed across the watch , they have a Logo they should use it !
The thing with this is that the case is actually a rendition of the SRP turtle case not the 6309 turtle case. The dimensions and shape are all SRP Which is a real pity.

Hi Dan, thanks for the review. How did you get those scratches on both watches? I always get scratches on the back covers of my watches and I've no idea how. Either it's satin polished or mirror polished, I scratch the back covers.
It all depends how you use the watch. It only takes a tiny bit of sand or dirt to get underneath, then it moves around under there like a little scratch monster.

Seems overpriced when compared to Heimdallr. Same or very similar specs. Looking to get the Sharkey SKX as they do the day/date complication. Turtle a bit big for my 6.5" wrist. Might just try both!

Both are made in the same place ,the San Martin is more money but I've got five steeldive watches and two San Martin watches and side by side they look the exact same and the engine is the same so it's hard to find how the price of both are so different ???
Anyone know if this will fit a 6309 strapcode bracelet or for that matter a OEM bracelet? The secret to the rubber strap being buttery smooth is because it's a lovely feeling silicone?
Im sure as long as you get the correct lug width compatable strap (22mm wide) it will fit. You may need thinner spring bars though.
@@watchmewithwatches got my bracelet in the mail, thought I'd give it a try. The spring bar holes are not lined up and the bracelet just doesn't seat properly against the case anyway. Just thought I'd share my results.
If you don't mind quartz then Ben Nevis on Aliexpress does a very passable large turtle. Sadly for me and my niche, all the Soviet watch companies are long gone or churning out quartz drek so no review samples for me :(
Funny thing I caught in a convo the other day, Invicta... ripper offer of Rolex etc is moaning about being ripped off by Ali brands like Temeite who are aiming their pieces very much looking like some of the higher end Invicta lol If you live by dat sword... Watch I would love to own is a coppered bronze Vostok 1967... Just upped a review of a late 40's Boctok and a NOS Sekonda (Slava) tank which is a big big bruiser of a Soviet watch, virgin til it landed on my wrist and utterly flawless... not bad for something from the 70's.
I'm waiting for a mini turtle from some time now....
