- Today I am mowing an overgrown lawn with edges that have grown a foot onto the road and almost completely covered the sidewalks. In the middle of the front lawn there is a shrub that has grown so tall, it is blocking the view of the house.
I met the owner of the property, and he was super grateful that I mowed and trimmed the overgrowth for free. His goal is to get the home ready to move in for his mother. I'm really happy I was able to help out in some way and I hope you guys enjoy the video.

Remember that the video is sped up and it looks so easy. But it is hard work that will keep you in shape when young. Some times illness or limiting circumstances can make it get so bad you can’t catch up; Such a blessing and kindness that brings relief to everyone.
You are the first person to do a job like this the way my father taught me over 60 years ago. You did the trimming and edging before you mowed. When you started mowing, you used the hard surfaces, the street, sidewalk, driveway and patio as a place to throw the tall cut grass. This makes mowing easier and less taxing on the mower. It also uses the daytime heating to start the drying process on the clippings. The hard surfaces and whatever drying takes place make gathering up those clippings faster and easier. You worked smarter than a lot of guys. Thanks for setting a good example. I hope others watch and learn.

I love that so many across the country are getting into doing this free to the homeowner but still able to make a decent living. There are so many people who just cant do this.
As a neighbor to a vacant home I do not understand how a neighbor can mow right up to the property line and stop when the need is so obvious. I clean up my neighboring front yard so our neighborhood looks beautiful and in hopes it will attract a buyer who sees it is cared for.

That has always bothered me too. Once I had a neighbor that we shared a tall hedge with. He had HIS half of the hedge trimmed. It shocked me. The next year I paid to have the hedge trimmed properly. Lol

I fully agree doesn’t say much for the neighbours, they could have easily done some mowing here, just an extension to their own lawn and street area would have made sense.

I don't understand why he would use the blower after doing the 1st part with the Strummer only to go back and clean up the same places after mowing surely it would have made more sense to do it all at the end and then clean the driveway rather than doing it twice. Brilliant job none the less.

I watch yard makeover videos every day. I watch so many people doing these. I have seen a lot of really good makeovers. I believe this is the best one I have seen! Honestly you did an amazing job. I had to subscribe! Keep up the good work. The hedge was the best part. It is beautiful now!

We honestly don’t know the circumstances, he may simply be overwhelmed and caring for her.
It's very possible that when he bought the house the yard was in very bad shape. Then trying to reno the inside so him mom could live there, it was prob. on the bottom of his to-do list. On top of that, imo, why would you want the house, being empty, look nice to attract thieves to steal work supplies, appliances and whatnot. No one would mess with it being the way it was, it probably went unnoticed bcuz you couldn't see it.
I will be happy when the red and yellow (Jasmine?) fill back in. Perhaps he's from another state and wasn't sure which plants to leave and how to trim a palm. (I would have left some of the bottom palm fronds on this type palm.
Subscribing because you actually clean up after yourself and haul away the vegetation and dirt. That's seriously respectful to the neighbors.

How do the neighbors let it get this bad? I always mow neighbors if they have let it go & not kept up with the yard.
They could have stepped in to help with the overgrowth if they felt it was one. The son buying his mom a house and renovating it over months is the sweetest gesture as is the job done.

If I might make a suggestion…the correct way to sidewall a hedge is to sweep upwards in long strokes. A common failing is chopping downwards in short cuts. What happens then is that invariably the user turns the blade inward slightly, which causes the hedge to be undercut on the bottom and flaring outward on the top. This shadows the base, which leads to yellowing and gradual dying back of the bottom of the hedge. All hedges should be wider at the base than the top. If you’ve ever seen those perfect hedges in England, this is the method used. I’ve very much enjoyed your video. You have a new subscriber.
