More about the campaign please! I love it!
Likewise. Hearing about other's campagins is always nice.
Thanks, Arcky! We're making plans to have that as a bigger part of the podcast starting with podcast 21.
I would listen to you guys talking about your campaign all day
We're glad you enjoyed it Rodrigo. We'll keep doing it.
Campaign stories/reports are proof that there is a game happening. There is a lot of advice out there from people who don’t play.
Glad to be hearing about the campaign.
Sounds good, John. We'll give more details about the campaign in the future.
You guys always have great discussions, whether campaign related or general TTRPG talk.
Thanks! We're glad you like the content!
I definitely want to hear all about the dark ages cthulhu game
It's on the agenda. Probably after the first of the year, though.
Thank you both for answering my question on the show. That was a real treat to listen to. As a fellow DM, I've always enjoyed learning how others run and manage their games. I could easily enjoy a very macro level deep dive conversation into this subject. I don't know how much your listeners would, but I'm all ears if you choose to go down that road. Thank you both again.
You're welcome, Youseph. It was a great question - thanks for sending it.
"Six years, from 79 to 1980 ". Yeah I wish that had been six years..
I’m a preper as well. I enjoy setting up the world for consistency and just enjoyment. I didn’t start that way. Back in the 80s my world started with the modules I had in hand and that was my geography.
Agreed. Creation of the world is firstly for me, secondly for the game.
Cheers for the mention!
Can't believe I missed this one - was about to start watching #19, then thought: "What happened to eighteen!?"
Good episode.
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Ages is great.
If you fancy something that'll give you loads more background (especially for my neck of the woods around York), take a look at Maelstrom Domesday by Arion Games. There's some really good location supplements with events and NPCs.
Obviously, that's set after the Norman invasion, but I'd say the small villages and towns would have more continuities than extreme changes from the Romano-British era through the Synod of Whitby into the Danelaw, then the dark days of the Harrying of the North. We still remain quite resistant to change in the rural parts!
Another great suggestion - Maelstrom Domesday. You're killing my wallet here!
46:34 great article!
Great podcast. Jim is making the jokes now. I enjoy the reminiscing about old campaigns. The Cthulhu campaign sounds awesome. And I was convinced that Alex's character would have been replaced by a doppelganger and he ended up locked in a deep dark cell screaming for help until he succumbed, but instead he just died. 😂 I remember Pegasus magazine. Might have a copy or two, have to look in the old dusty box. And now you can't even trust the potions you find. That's just wrong on so many levels. 🤔 Evil Old Warlock. 😆 McLaren is rocking with Lando and Oscar. Mercedes is back too. Got Max sweating. I was a Erving, Byrd, Walton, Johnson kind of guy. And I am looking forward to a deep dive into Chainmail. Looking at you Old Warlock. 🥸
We'll see what we can do, FF! Thanks for the comment, as always.
About world building. I took a different approach. I have a full continent. So geography is relatively set. History of the world has been developed, and some small regions are developed. There are festivals, and important annual events that link back to events in the history. Currently, much of the continent is unexplored...at least not well known by locals in the small regions I have developed. There are old roads and trade routes that lead off toward these unknown areas. But they are so overgrown and unmaintained its clear no one has went these routes for a very long time. So the details, city states, ruins, locations will have to be developed over time.
So when are we getting the Old Warlock Basketball Tournament?
Hah! Something to think about!
not first 🧐 I recommend Cthuluth now. It's easier to get players immersed in a modern day story.
Honestly, Id rather hear about adventures, adventure locations, repercussions of choices etc than just history. History and product reviews are good as well, but the game is about playing it, and recaps and stories are more interesting than a live playcast.
We've had a lot of people say they like hearing about the campaign. We'll be doing more going forward.
I’d love to see a video of your thoughts on OSRIC.
We'll see what we can do. We've had a number of people ask for OSRIC content.
Not a Celtics fan...... But I am a celtic fan!
Wow, Jim you really should start documenting and monetizing your adventures under the "OSRIC compatible" moniker.
If you need help pulling stuff together or editing I am 100% you could get it here on this Channel.
It doesn't have to be an entire campaign (to publish) as long as there is an underlying logic to an adventure it "feels" authentic....
I know I'd buy a module or two.....
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Chris! We're testing the waters with our small Kickstarter projects right now. Maybe something more module-like a bit down the road.
Most of the world that plays soccer as national pastime love the NBA for obvious reasons.
28:53 what sounds/soundboard are using?
We're using RPG Sounds Fantasy - we put our own music in but it comes with a lot of ambiance sounds.
@@theoldwarlock thank you.
