This was the exact type of video I was looking for. Great tips and strategies for the c5 opening which is what I needed. Thank you. I subbed because of this video. Can't wait to watch your other London System vids.
Thank you so much Simon. I would like to recommend the game Chezz to you. It's like real time chess in which you don't have to wait for your opponent to move I.e. You can move two or more pieces at the same time. It's a lot of fun and I recommend you to play it!
Really is a great instructor. Check out his stuff over at chess.com too, if I'm not mistaken he has a series on this in the works set for release soon. Tons of other good DVD type viewing material too...that game you did on Jesus with the white pieces, Simon, quite possibly the best chess video I've ever seen. If you are looking to learn the game, while being entertained, you've come to the right guy. Thanks a bunch Simon.
Thank you, it's a great series of videos! I did try your London System, won some games and lost some )) I usually get extremely sharp position with uncastled king and tending to sacrifice pieces to get an attack (or get nothing). It's exciting but a bit too sharp for me ))
Marco Laube Not at all! I like Karpov, Korchnoy, Petrosian and Leko, I appreciate Karyakin's ability to defend worse positions. Chess is a complex and ballanced game, one should pay attention to attack and defence both.
Simon, I would like to buy one of your books on the Dutch. Which of the two should I get? And what's the differences between the two? P.s. Been watching your channel from the start... excellent and immensely entertaining!!! Love ya
Thanks a lot for this video - played a game with white today where my opponent went 1. d4 e5 2. dxe5 Nc6 3. Nf3 De7 4. Bg5 Qb4+? and thanks to this video I was sure, that Nc3 is perfectly fine and I ended up winning my opponents Queen at the 12. move - even though he was much higher rated than me and thought he could try some moves over the board in a tournament (his rating: 1890, my current rating, but I haven't played over the board for years and only trained online: 1289). So still keep the London system in mind, even if he goes e5!
Thanks; I really like the London system and I appreciate this serie you made. What would the closest opening for black that looks like the London system if it exists; I haven't found one yet?
Hi Simon, I would like to know what happens if black plays e6 after d5 of the white (1. d4 Nf6 2. Bf4 c5 3. d5 e6). I enjoy so much whatching your videos, you're fantastic and funny player! Keep it up!!
Hi Simon, I am very interested by your DVD on the London system but unfortunatly, it is a Chessbase product and I don't have it,... (I work on a Mac). What should I have to do to follow your full lessons and get all details on this system ? Is there another way like downloading the videos as your grand master course ?
You say that the only time to play c4 is when black plays Bf5, but I was going through a few games of Gata Kamsky and noticed that unless his opponent plays c5 , he goes for c4 . Could you provide some explanation please?
Pratyush Das The point of the "triangle" as simon calls it is to defend your pawn chain when black hits you with c5, In the games of Kamsky if Black isnt pressuring your center you can play c4 instead of c3 to play a Londonesque system with advantageous structure. In short if he doesnt attack you ,you attack him
Can someone tell me what to do with e5 with black on their first move after d4 it always makes me feel uncomfortable especially when you're playing an aggresive player that takes your d4 pawn it nearly always ruins my whole setup
I asked myself the same question some time ago when I saw this video. I found that the hole idea of bringing the black Queen early to B6 simply does not work, here, because black is missing a tempo here and/or the blacks Knight on F6 which could play a big role in one of the following two lines. You can continue with: 3. e3 or 3. c3 or even 3. d x c5 In the third variation, black can not play 3. ... Qb6 since the pawn covers this square. Here, you basically have a marginally improved version of a Reversed Queens Gambit accepted line. I say marginally better because the Bishop on F4 covers the E5 square so that black can no play pawn to E4 immediately. However, by taking away from the center white still somewhat lost direct control of the center. Therefore, this is a completely balanced position which is nice for both sides. After 3. c3 Qb6 there a several options. First, you can 3. c3 Qb6 4. Qb3 simply blocking the pawn by be Queen. Here, you can simply remember that in this position it is really better for both sides to take the others Queen. If 3. c3 Qb6 4. Qb3 cxd4 you first take blacks Queen and than you recapture the pawn: 3. c3 Qb6 4. Qb3 cxd4 5. QxQb6 axb6 6. cxd4 Here, white is clearly better leaving black with a doubled isolated pawn on the B file while being better developed. Therefore, black should capture the Queen, first 3. c3 Qb6 4. Qb3 QxQb3 5. axb3 cxd4 6. cxd4 where it is the other way round sicne now white is left with doubled isolated B pawns. However, since white is still up the tempo and has the open A file for the rook this is playable and completely equal. The other good options are either 3. c3 Qb6 4. Qc2 or 3. c3 Qb6 4. Qc1 simply defending the pawn while bringing the Queen to a useful square. Both moves look as if this could not work since black has a double attack on the D4 pawn. However, black can not take advantage of this since after a double capture on D4 white has a checkmate via Qxc8, thus, indirectly defending the pawn on D4. 3. e3 has the disadvantage that black can simply exchange a side pawn for a center pawn which is honestly the best thing that black can do, here, in my opinion. This does not lead to anything special, though. However, if you anticipate 3. e3 Qb6 then black is already in severe trouble after 4. Nc3 due to the weak D5 pawn which is undefended (since no Knight on F6). If 3. e3 Qb6 4. Nc3 Qxb2 then 5. Nxd5 and not only white got a center pawn for a side pawn, white also threatens to win the rook on A1 which can not be prevented (5. Nxd5 Na6 is met with 6. Bxa6). But if black defends the D5 pawn, white can jump to B5 instead also threatening the fork on C7 completely crippling blacks position after 5. ... Na6.
Thank you so much Simon. I would like to recommend the game Chezz to you. It's like real time chess in which you don't have to wait for your opponent to move I.e. You can move two or more pieces at the same time. It's a lot of fun and I recommend you to play it!
2:50 1. d4 Nf6 2. Bf4 c5 (rare at low levels)
3:10 3. e3 Qb6 is strong
3:54 4. Nc3 Qxb2 5. Nb5 drawing weapon
4:58 3. c3 Qb6 4. Qb3 cxd4 good for black
5:37 rule 1: meet c5 with d5
7:52 Nc3 vs c4 benoni
10:44 1. d4 Nf6 2. Bf4 c5 3. d5 Qb6?
rule 2: must be willing to sacrifice a pawn
11:16 4. Nc3 Qxb2 5. Bd2
14:34 rule 3: remain flexible
16:31 rule 4: e4-e5 is a key idea
17:13 rule 5: meet 1. d4 d5 2. Bf4 Bf5 with 3. c4
At 17:13 if black takes ... d:c4 you can't go Qb3.
Thanks Simon for introducing the London System for me. I had quite a good success playing it in the way you recommended! Thank you very much for that!
You really make chess exciting
Simon is an amazing teacher. He doesn't just show moves; he explains how a GM thinks!
I tried playing the London System and encountered these positions. After watching these 3 vids it makes a hell of a lot more sense, thanks!
Finally, finally, i have been waiting so much for this!
Thanks GM Simon for the tutorials, they have improved my game alot.
damn, that feeling when you try to like a video and it's already liked because you liked it 5 mins ago
This was the exact type of video I was looking for. Great tips and strategies for the c5 opening which is what I needed. Thank you. I subbed because of this video. Can't wait to watch your other London System vids.
Thanks Simon... your videos on the London System are excellent.
Yea! Thanks, Simon! And I'm also asking for that DVD! Tell ChessBase to get going on it before I spend all my money elsewhere! (worth a try)
Very very nice content GM Simon !!! Well done

Who's my favorite Cheeto GM? Simon is! Thanks again for another informative video!

VadVansky Sometimes the attack fails miserably but the games you win are worth it
Better to lose by attacking than win by defending
Vivek Gawande Surely ) But to succeed in this type of play you should be able to find sharpest moves. Otherwise you loose pretty fast )
Marco Laube Not at all! I like Karpov, Korchnoy, Petrosian and Leko, I appreciate Karyakin's ability to defend worse positions. Chess is a complex and ballanced game, one should pay attention to attack and defence both.
VadVansky my comment was more a personal feeling than a general opinion (or rule) on the game of chess.
at the time of 16:15, why is the bishop on g5 instead of f4
superb sir
Subscribed. Thank you sir!
You are such an excellent teacher. Might you do a Q&A on your stream some time?
Brilliant
I just ordered Simon's London System DVD!
hey man your videos are very very helpful, I've got a question, at 18:56 what if he takes C4, what would you do? thanks
yep that's what i'm not sure about
Wonderful Vaganian gambit
Simon, I would like to buy one of your books on the Dutch. Which of the two should I get? And what's the differences between the two? P.s. Been watching your channel from the start... excellent and immensely entertaining!!! Love ya
I think I will buy the DVD when it arrives
Thanks! Are you going to do one on the Dutch???? Also, the d4 d5 Bf4 Bf5 was not done.....So will it be done in the future??
Oops, Simon I'm sorry! I really should have seen the full video before commenting :) But I still want to know about facing the Dutch!

After ...Qxb2, Nb5 Nd5 - What's about a3, Rb1 and Qc1? This leads to capturing the queen, I think.
can you put all of this content on laser disc please.
Hey Simon, great videos! COULD YOU DISCUSS THE LONDON SYSTEM ON: 1... b6?
When will u make a video on black playing queens indian against it

did anyone buy the video? is it really good? good execrices etc :) ?
Wicked!
Simon, didn't you say that a video series was coming out on chess.com? Did you already film it???
How about going Nd6 instead after Qb4?
11:43 It's "tempi", not "tempo". It's a plural. Sincerely, Jordan Schlansky

Great videos! I've defeated a GM with one of your lines. Thank you very much!
4:16 white can play a3
Trapping the queen.. Can u explain this line further..

Hello, what opening repertoire should have with black London system players? Thx
Hello Simon, what do U suggest if 3.d5 d6 4.Nc3 e5!?
Cmon Harry! U can do it !!!Nisaram...Nammale Kond pattum...Nisaram !!!
What should we do when black goes for f5, Nf6, and 0-0
Can someone tell me what to do with e5 with black on their first move after d4 it always makes me feel uncomfortable especially when you're playing an aggresive player that takes your d4 pawn it nearly always ruins my whole setup
What if the pawn on c4 is taken? You can't move the queen then and the knight could be taken on b1, players will do that, so what to do?
What about: 1. d4 Nf6 2. Bf4 c5 3. dxc5 Qa5+ 4. Nc3 Ne4 5. Qd3 Nxc5 6. Qb5 Qxb5 7. Nxb5 Nba6 ?
is chessbase dvd better than this one ?
I cant find the copy cat variation on the Dvd 1.d4 d5 Bf4 Bf5 Did i miss it or you did Simon didnt mention it?
if 1.d4 Cf6 2.Ff4 c5 3.d5 d6 4.Cc3 e5!
what should we play?
1. d4 d5 Bf4 c5 if they play c5 here should I just complete the triangle and support my d pawn
1. d4 d5 2. Bf4 c5
How does white play?
I asked myself the same question some time ago when I saw this video. I found that the hole idea of bringing the black Queen early to B6 simply does not work, here, because black is missing a tempo here and/or the blacks Knight on F6 which could play a big role in one of the following two lines.
You can continue with:

Thanks 👍

I like
3. dxc5 Nf6
4. e3 e6
5. b4
It seems as though white can hold the pawn with a better position.
@@RayT70 Yeah this seems totally fine, although black also has a very clear plan for counter play by undermining this pawn(chain).
This is a line from Trompowsky theory, I think.
I really like this ginger GM and IM Eric Rosen
Nice I watched this with chess.com premium
BASIC BENONI STRUCTURE
So isn't ...c5 some kind of gambit? What if White just plays dxc5!?
GM Aronian played 3 dxc5 and almost lost against WC GM Kasparov! Too bad he didn't watch this analysis...
1. d4..nf6
2. Bf4..Bf5
3. c4..Nc6
4..??
DVD's are outdated. Paid streaming video is the thing.
I'd smoke a blunt with Simon.
MAKE HARRY THE H PAWN GREAT AGAIN
I don't like your line. I much rather prefer 3. e3, still.
I wonder who these outliars are? 🤔
Bet none of them are GM's!

Rule 3 spelling error: 'your' not 'you're'
It's not a spelling error. It's a grammatical error. ;)
Who cares about spelling when you are a GM who can play the bongcloud?
