The "very worrying picture" and your delivery never fail to crack me up. Moreover, I've since picked up this opening and can only speak good things of it. Bringing the bishop out of the pawn chain just makes so much sense and makes this opening fairly straight forward to play.
Seems like it. After Nb5 black is forced to castle to avoid a rook fork after Nxc7. However after castle, white can attack with the bishop instead, getting the pawn for free with tempo because it also threatens the queen. Queen only has one escape because the first knight move blocked her other exit, a pretty terrible position for her to develop to. From there it's overall a pretty bad state for black and the disadvantages will only multiply.
I've been playing the London System for a couple months now, and you're right, I do have great fun playing lines with 4. e4. Subbed and going to give the dee-vay-dee a shot.
Very exciting and interesting. Will really help to deal with the London System which casts a dismal shadow over OTB games... but defeating this dreary opening is a very instructive process, so thanks for sharing this interesting material ,

great work, Simon. The London System is not something I worry about while playing as Black because it is relatively easy to achieve a draw position in the middlegame. As the saying goes "Win as White, Draw as Black."
You do a brilliant job giving lower level players, such as myself, easy rules to live by when approaching an opening. I never really liked D4 openings, but after watching your videos on the London system I have won many games with it. Thanks! Any chance of doing some easy rules to live by for the English opening?

What about the white king when black plays with c5 and white continues with Nb5 and a4 ? Does he remain in the center of the board ? Or castle short eventually ? Thanks ! Great video ! P.S.: I guess when black goes for a6 and delays castle and we have the plan with Ne5 and g4 in the long run, white may castle queenside, but in the first case it doesn't look too safe for the white king to go there...
you are right, delaying castling with white in the london is a common theme. sometimes u dont even castle at all. it is quite flexible in that sense. remember, the goal of the opening is not always to castle, it is to make sure your king is safe. in not all cases this means castling, sometimes the middle of the board is a safe place for the king.

It used to be that way, but he's showing new attacking ideas that don't make it a drawn middlegame. Keep thinking that way though!

I could never figure out why Black's Nd7 move at 17:45 was a blunder.... help?
