Budget MTG Decks
All magic fun, all cards under a dollar
We here at Budget MTG Decks love playing constructed Magic: the Gathering! Whether it’s EDH / Commander, standard or modern, duel or multiplayer, we can’t get enough of it.
Our vision of MTG is a game which encourages strategic thinking, social interaction and above all…fun! To make this accessible to everyone we decided to lower the two largest barriers which people encounter with this game:
1: Cost of building a Magic deck.
2: Complexity of building a Magic deck.
Our mission at Budget MTG Decks is to provide full deck tech videos describing ready to play EDH / Commander and duel decks. With in depth commentary on each card and overall play style. To make sure the decks are truly budget we have limited the price of all our cards to under a dollar (with exception of the commanders). Now everyone can join the Magic: the Gathering fun!
Almost 6 years later and your videos are still helping people out. Thank you!
Man I really appreciate this! So helpful! I just started playing last week and got very confused and frustrated. But this clears up a lot.
Glad to hear it was of some use to you Scott. It's not an easy game to get started with especially if you don't have someone around you who already plays. Let us know if you miss anything.
your videos are so helpful!
Thanks for the positive feedback!
I've watched all your how to play magic videos and they have helped me out a lot. I'm currently trying to teach my gf how to play and needed some tips on how to explain and teach her better. been off an on playing for about 8 years. so I'm glad I stumbled upon your videos. great videos and keep up the great/helpful work :)
Glad you decided to get back to it Daniel! No one ever really quits magic ;). The best way to teach someone is by playing a game with very simple decks and with your hands revealed on the table. That way you can explain which cards do what and why you would want to play them. Start by building 2 simple mono colored deck with 30 cards (13 basic lands) with a variety of creatures, enchantments and sorceries. If you don't have experience building such decks have a look at the "Sample decks" which Wizards of the Coasts puts out every year.
Wow, these are some high quality vids and very well done. Keep up this concise, quality content and you will have a following in no time.
Hi Clonehead! We really appreciate you supporting what we are doing. Let's us know we are going in the right direction ;).
You have the best how to play Magic videos. As a new player they were extremely helpful and answered all of my questions. Thank you.
Thanks for letting us know, we really appreciate it and welcome to this awesome game ;).
Reptar Plankerstein Splisherfanguard , Kaladesh University (intro music key and peele sketch) but honestly love the vids they really help!
Thanks man, very helpful and really amazing editing.
Thanks for the complement :D
Youre videos have such excellent teaching... So well spoken and on point!
Thanks for the kind words!
Trying to learn so I can play with my boyfriend. Your video's are very helpful😊
Hi Maranda! That's a lovely gesture, if you have any further questions do not hesitate to ask ;).
This is a top notch tutorial video David. Thanks :)
Nice videos there really helping me learn to play
Happy to be of service +Daniel Biego. If anything is still unclear just let us know ;).
explains it right away. love this guy
05:05 Don't you contradict yourself there? According to the rules a defending player may only assign one creature for it to block that's attacking him. Also it wouldn't make any sense to block with both runeclaw bears in this case. Im new to this and and in didn't came here to judge. It's just very confusing. Could you explain me?
Hi sky maze, thanks for the question! Actually it's not a contradiction, but it is confusing. 1 blocker may only block 1 attacker (as in, 1 blocker may not block 2 attackers). But 2 blockers may block 1 attacker. Another way to explain it is that 1 blocker can only stop 1 attacker but can be helped by another blocker to gang up on the 1 attacker (as in the example in the video). If 2 attackers attack then 1 blocker has to choose who to stop as the other will be able to pass unhindered. Finally yeah, the defender did not need to block with both Runeclaw Bears...it was just used as an example of two blockers, not the best strategy in this situation ;).
Budget MTG Decks that's obvious. it just caused a tiny mess in my head:D thank you for your answer david. Your video tutorials helped me alot. Good work.
Thanks! Glad to be of service ;)
@@BudgetMTGDecks This was a helpful video for me, thanks a lot for that, but I did have to come to the comments to understand this part as it is somewhat confusing in the vid. The contradiction arises from the placement of the word 'only'. There is a difference between 'only one creature may block one attacker' an 'one creature may block only one attacker'. You say the first but if I understand correctly you mean the second. Nonetheless this cleared up some questions I had about enchantments.
thank you so much you go slow and show how it works rather than speed through p.s i subscribed
Thanks for the sub! Appreciate it!
How did I know you were gonna make a B/W deck for this XD as always very informative!
Must be your powerful psychic powers Dromega1gaming ;). Oh and the initial for blue in Magic circles is actually U not B (B stands for Black)...I know weird right?
I know, I forgot! I need to remember U/W as in "Ew, He is playing white and blue."
Hehe you got that right ;)
These are great. Eagerly awaiting the next videos ^_^
Hi Saki! Thanks for the compliment ;). We are busy filming the next two episodes, they should be up real soon.
Well the only experience I had with magic is from Magic Duels, which does all the tapping and moves for you, so thanks for the detailed explanations cause I'd be royally confused otherwise.
Haha no doubt, it's not a simple game. But super fun once you get the hang of it!
ya
they are really helpful
Can you do a series on this for EDH too? :(
Love the channel! I'm a new player and your vids have been invaluable!
That's great! Let us know if anything is still unclear ;).
Great videos, David! One question: in the enchanment segment, why would you block with the two bears when one dies anyway? Why not block with the 5/5 bear, and not lose a creature?
Hi Doug, it was not the right play, but it did illustrate how you can block one attacking creature with two or more blocking creatures.
These videos are extremely helpful thanks
Thanks for letting us know!
Amazing tutorial
Thanks!
I hope this comment gets a answered. I have a question, regarding to auras and the keyword ninjutsu. The ninjutsu mechanic is, when your creature attacks and it is unblocked, the creature that is attacking returns to your hand, and here is the part that I'm confused, what if the creature that I returned to hand has an aura or an equip artifact, what will happen to the aura or artifact? I'm really curious sir. And I love the tutorials by the way, and I'm very interested in the keyword ninjutsu.
Thank you
thanks the videos are really helpfull
Thanks for letting us know! ;)
Bro your videos are awesome thank you sooo much !
Thanks Benny! Happy you found them useful ;).
Amazing stuff!!
Also, if you block with a creature with lifelink, do you gain that life because you're inflicting damage on the attacking creature?
Correct.
I’ve been playing magic for a while now but I’m still not sure about this. Can you put multiple auras on one creature?
I wish I'd never stop playing. haven't played since college in 07
We cannot change that which has already passed. Now just look to the future and enjoy all the years of Magic still ahead of you ;).
very helpful videos but the wording on blocking and attacker - can multiple blockers block an attacker or no? im hearing yes and no.. lol
Multiple blockers can block 1 attacker, but 1 blocker can't block multiple attackers.
I have a question, haven't played in years and years, I remember there being things that can pull cards from the graveyard. So in the case of an opponent putting an enchant on my creature, does that enchant go to my graveyard or back to the owners own graveyard? (Of course either way at the end everyone gets their own cards back, but rules wise for remove from graveyard cards.)
in the last example would it be better to block with just the 5/5 creature so you won't lose the 2/2 creature?
Correct, our opponent should have blocked with just the 5/5.
The video doesn't explain how to track enchantments using physical cards. Do you pick up your creature card and put the enchantment card underneath? Try to leave the top of the enchantment card visible? How do you tap creatures with enchantment stacks and/or slide forward to declare attack without the whole pile turning into a big mess? Do players track power and toughness alterations from enchantments or instant spells in their heads? I need to see these gameplay elements demonstrated with physical cards, dice, and tokens instead of in computer graphics.
Do you also have videos on how to make a deck? It's because I don't really know how to make one but, when this is finished do you have one or do I look somewhere else?
Mmm we don't have it but it would make for a good continuation of the series. For now you may need to look elsewhere but thanks for the suggestion!
I have a question regarding an enchantment I rather like named Blood Mist, the creature which I choose to give the spell effect to, if that creature is destroyed, will Blood Mist go to the graveyard aswell?
No it will not. Blood Mist targets a creature but is not attached to it in the same way an Aura is.
How many enchantments can be active at a time? Is there anyway for the player to remove the enchantment (not auras) on his own free will?
There is no limit to the amount of permanents which a player can control (this includes enchantments). Permanents can only be removed if there is a way to sacrifice them (this ability will often be on another card).
YOU HAVE AWESOME VIDS BROTHER, BUT GOT DANGIT...THE J IN AJANI'S NAME IS A HARD J LOL
Sorry bro, so we've heard.
What exactly mean this enchantment with And without ,,next": Tap target creature. That creature doesn't untap during its controller (next) untap step ?
Could you let us know what the name of the card is?
If you can raise the Glory seeker from the graveyard, does it still have its enchantments, or equipment, on?
It does not. Once the Glory Seeker is removed from the battlefield it is no longer enchanted or equipped.
So I don’t have to keep paying the cost for the played enchantments?
What about enchantment creatures? If I have a card that states enchantments cost 1 less mana to cast, does that apply to enchantment creatures as well? I’ve always been a little confused on this
In a friendly march I'd let that pass; check Google 😂
Can the defending player share the attack within the two creatures as in each get 1 hit point ?
No, the defending player can chose to block one attacker with two blockers, but the attacker may chose how the attacking creature distributes the damage among the blockers.
Hi, very useful video. I am wondering, are there any staple/"go-to" cards that can be played to remove enchantments? Because enchantments are recurring effects through the rounds I can see that if an opponent has many enchantment cards its really going to interfere with your ability to compete if you can't get rid of them (by killing their enchanted creatures, while yours permanently nerfed and you cant shake it off)!
Hi +gurtana, if your opponent enchants their creatures (Enchantment Aura) the best thing you can do is simply kill the creature with a removal spell. If it is a regular enchantment then it depends on the color you are playing. White and green have great spells to destroy enchantments while blue can bounce the enchantment back to your opponent's hand. Red and Black can't destroy enchantments. Examples: Return to Dust or Naturalize
Budget MTG Decks Thank you for taking the time out to reply and thanks for the advise here. I am a new player So I shall try to remember the general advice about those enchantments!
We were all new to the game at some point. And let us know if we can help with anything else ;).
How much spells can you cast in each turn and is there a limit on land cards you can put on the battlefield?
There is no limit to the amount of spells you can cast in a turn, as long as you have sufficient mana. There is no limit to the amount of lands you can have on the battlefield, but you can only play one per turn.
Say, at 5:00, Glory Seeker attacks, but there was no tapping of lands. Did I miss something?
No you did not miss anything. Only casting of the creature costs mana. Once it's on the battlefield it does not cost mana to attack or block.
Ah, thanks!
Does the attacker choose where the damage goes first in a 2 on 1 situation ?
That's correct!
Hello I was wondering if you can put more than one aura enchantment on your own creature?
Hi Shilo, you can put as many aura enchantments on any creature (yours or your opponent's).
Budget MTG Decks Thank you
Can i put more than one enchantment creature on a creature? Seems they become indestructable
Yes you can. What if you load up your creature with 4 enchantment auras and somebody plays Murder (destroy target creature)? Then you lost 5 cards for their 1 card.
What do you mean by saying, only one creature may block one attacker and one attacking creature may still be blocked by multiple creatures?????
You cannot block multiple attackers with one creature. But you can block one attacker with multiple blockers.
Thanks, that helped. Your videos are really helpful!!!!!!:)
4:27 why would the opponent skip their combat phase during this turn?
Because attacking would cause the bears to tap and as such would no longer be able to double block in our combat phase.
The opponent didn't need to double block in that situation right?
So can you only play one color? Or does it have to be two color?
You can play as few or as many colors as you like.
When you have an Aura that gives to your creature a +3/+3, and the oponent cast a spell that destroy the enchantment, does the creature lost those +3/+3 or they remain on the creature even tho the enchant was destroyed? Please help!
The creature loses the +3/+3.
Can you play an enchantment aura without any creatures in play and then attach them to a creature once you summon it?
For example say you have no creatures on the field could play an enhancement aura and play a creature next turn and attach it?
No you can't. The aura always has to have a target when you cast it.
Awesome thanks
I thought you couldn't block with a tapped creature? I'm still knew, so i'm confused.
That is correct, you cannot block with a tapped creature.
So if my opponent placed an enchantment on my creature and the creature dies, does the attached enchantment go to my graveyard with the creature or back to my opponents?
It goes to its owners graveyard. So your opponent's graveyard in this example.
what happens when u play a Enchantment for Creatures and the next turn a new Creature, does the "new Creature" also have the enchantment ?
Nope, the Aura Enchantment goes in the creature you target and does not count for any other creature.
@Budget MTG Decks not Aura, i mean enchantments Like Howlpack Resurgence
Yes, regular enchantments are static effects which means they count for current and new creatures as long as the enchantment is on the battlefield.
Budget MTG Decks Thanks, i discussed this a Lot with my Friends
Do Enchantments count as permanents?
Yes they do.
Wait so you can get health over 20 using cards
That is correct.
Thanks
How do I enchant a card
;)
You pay the casting cost and then you place the enchantment aura directly underneath the permanent you wish to enchant (usually a creature).
Can you destroy creature with enchantment?
What do you mean exactly?
For example if creature has 2/2 and you put -2/-2 enchantment for it does it destroy the creature?
It sure does. Its toughness would be 0 and as such it would be put into the graveyard.
Thank you!
I don't quite understand the upkeep
You don't have to worry about upkeep +Ninjaaah Quigley. Nothing happens during your upkeep unless you control a card that says "at the beginning of your upkeep" do the following. Then you know you have to do that after untapping your permanents. An example of a card with upkeep is Ajani's Mantra. After untapping your lands you would gain a life and then draw your card for the turn.
how can an enchantment go to th graveyard?
An enchantment aura goes to the graveyard when the creature it is enchanting dies. A regular enchantment goes to the graveyard when it is destroyed with a spell such as "Naturalize".
Can you explain how works equipment?
Please view our next video regarding artifacts: ua-cam.com/video/onkb0u6omW8/v-deo.html
+Budget MTG Decks thanks!
is magic more expansive than yugioh?
We can't answer that as we have never played Yugioh. But maybe someone else in the comments can.
Casuist Gaming a yu gi oh starter deck is about 2 or three dollars more expensive than magic. magic gives you 60 cards in a starter deck plus a booster pack of 15 cards. yu gi oh, on the other hand, gives you (if you buy a tin of cards) 9 cards plus 3 booster packs of 15 cards.
however, depending on where you buy your cards, the prices can make a tremendous impact. I'd recommend getting a starter deck of magic because it gives a little Back-Story on the types of cards that are in the deck plus a small rulebook on how to play the game whereas yu gi oh starter decks do not. so I'd recommend playing magic. but if the rules if Magic are too difficult for you to understand, try yu gi oh First. that's what I did and magic came more clear to me.
@psycho-patches sorry but that is not completely true. a tin is not a starter deck for yu-gi-oh. a yu-gi-oh starter deck has 60 cards and a basic rule book to understand beginner mechanics. but as far as "is magic more expensive", I would say no.
when you go to a LGS (local game store) the prices will most likely be lower than at a store and you cant find that kind of thing for yu-gi-oh. booster packs are going to be the main thing you buy so here is a rouph estimation on the booster pack prices. for magic 15 cards is abouuut 3 dollars. and yu-gi-oh is close to 5.
Bam! Mic drop.
Edit: did not realize this post was made a year ago
I play black any one else
Dr Vahn I do actually my first deck was from a friend of mine and they were all black cards
Dr Vahn it's kind of funny I own the cards for a while but I never fully grasped the game now I'm starting to understand it which is awesome because I just got a introduction deck 60 cards all together
you didn't even cover all types of enchantments
I got lost here :(
Anything we can help you with?
gae
This intro sounds edgy.
Is that good or bad?
