Ironically enough, everything I've read says the actress who played Veruca was actually very sweet and friendly on the set. She's also said in interviews that during the filming, she had a crush on the actor who played Charlie.
Gene Wilder said all of the kids were sweet except one. He didn't say which one, but I'm certain it was Mike Teevee's actor. I saw an interview with the him as an adult and he said he was a trouble maker on set and it annoyed Gene Wilder.

I heard that the girl who played that brat is actually very nice and kind in real life, not only that but she also confessed to having a crush on the boy who played Charlie.
Assuming if the women worked from ages 20-65 (45 consecutive years) on that 8 hours 5 days a week schedule, that would mean they’d work 11,700 days. 760,000 (the number of bars that would be opened on a 5 day schedule) x 11,700 = 8,892,000,000. Almost 9 billion bars. To put into perspective into how much that is, the world population as of July 2022 is currently sitting at 8 billion. There would be more opened and wasted Wonka bars than there are people on Earth.
@@CarsonK you could just scan each unopened bar with x ray machines until the ticket is found, then the empty bars can be sold on the shelves and make profit
It doesn't matter if you use the average price of a candy bar for the year the book was published or the year this movie was released. In either case, once you adjust for inflation, you're going to be fuming. Not to mention the money this is costing Mr. Salt's business and all that wasted chocolate.
If my boss was paying me to hunt for that ticket and I found it, I'd stick in my pocket, take it home, wait until the other 4 were found, and then give it my own kid.
we all know the new one is inferior to the old, but that doesn't mean it didn't succeed by itself. And again, they did address some of the original's plot holes while also getting that chocolate river to look like actual chocolate

Okay, how does Mr. Wilkinson/Slugworth just happen to know _exactly_ where each one of the five Golden Tickets is going to pop up? And on top of that, he makes it around _the entire planet_ in time to greet each winner.... ...it's something to do with Oompa Loompa magic, isn't it?
As a child: who's that weird guy? He seems to be there a lot. As a teenager: Ok, now this is a little weird. How IS he RIGHT there when each winner is announced. As an adult: ONLY logical theory that works is that Willy Wonka already knew where in the world each ticket was going, and I'm wiling to bet none of these TV announcements were broadcast live so this assistant had enough time to show up, say he works for Wonka, and tell the winners this false promise. Or......it's just a movie XD
I would guess the tickets were only released one at a time, and Wonka knew exactly which case, and even which bar, had the ticket. Once a golden ticket case went out, he sent Wilkerson out to follow that case, and wait for someone to buy the bar. Really though, Wilkerson was only present for the discovery of Veruca's ticket - and nearby for Charlie's. He spoke with Violet, Augustus and Mike during their press conferences.
Maybe Wonka used an algorithm (like the one Mike Teavee used find his ticket in the remake) to keep track of the tickets and enable his aide to reach the finders ASAP.
Am I the only one who notices that Veruca sitting on the revolving chair (like a unreasonable boss) establishes her as a domineering influence over her father (who in this scene looks like one of the supervisors (the second highest rank (factory girls are lower, obviously) but lower compared to the above influences)? This subtly cinematographic form of hierarchy is very clever in establishing her character! Nice work!
I like verucas response to having the golden ticket in the new movie more because all she says is ' daddy. I want another pony' both reactions are priceless tho

lol - no - but they were worth a lot more than today's pound. Minimum wage [there wasn't one - but that's what they got] would have been something like £2 a week for working class. So a £1 bonus would be like a 50% pay increase.
The joke is that the Salts represent materialism and that Henry Salt is an exploitative employer. A one pound bonus in someone's pay packet would have been laughably small even in 1971. That's the whole point.
Also the fact, that the other kids where first shown in the news woth golden ticket already founded, and sligworth was already right there at the moment veruca got it
“Golden ticket rewards you with a lifetime supply of chocolate” Well from all the Wonka bars you unwrapped, you already got yourself a lifetime supply of chocolate.
Roy Kinnear who played Verruca's father died in 1988 after falling off a horse while filming the return of the Muskerteers movie. He died of a heart attack the following day. RIP. He was great in this film.
I feel like both characters are handled very differently. The Veruca in this film is extremely rude, and we don’t really get a good reason as to why. In the 2005 version, it’s made very clear that Veruca is only spoiled because of her parents being rich. But in THIS film we never get any indication that they’re rich, (I get the Henry has money, but there’s a difference between having money and being rich). The father in this film is way nicer than the father in the second film. This makes the Veruca in the second film make WAY more sense than this films Veruca. Plus in the sequal, we really get a glimpse at how spoiled Veruca is when she starts naming all of her pets but still insists of getting a squirrel. That’s way more precise than a golden egg. There’s something about the Veruca in the sequel that makes me feel bad for her, because no. She isn’t as mean as this one. The sequels Veruca is only spoiled because of the way her parents raised her. They never set her rules and never made her earn anything. Again, we NEVER see those very important details in this film, and it just makes Veruca look like an unstable girl. I get that’s probably what they were going for but I think the sequels Veruca was handled better. She was nice to Mr. Wonka at the start, and was relatively nice to everyone until either: 1. Wonka started being ‘weird’ 2. She didn’t get what she wanted from her father, because she’s always been raised to get everything she wanted. Idk maybe it’s just because I haven’t seen this older version in a while but Veruca has no origins in this movie. There’s no explaining why she acts this way unlike the sequel. And it’s for that reason I think the sequels Veruca is better. Now of course as actresses, both are amazing, I don’t want to praise one over the other. They both nailed their roles!
Anyone notice how in Charlie and the Chocolate factor, Veruca's dad seems uptight and posh like her, probably coming from a long line of wealth in their family, but in this film her mum and dad seem like they come from a small estate in Manchester or Newcastle and her father made it big at some point?
Yes, it does look like the 1971 Mr Salt made it big from a smaller beginning. After the Golden Ticket affair, it probably went back the other way for him. His business must have suffered from all the expense and lost revenue in finding a Golden Ticket for Veruca, after all.
When I played Mr. Salt in a theater version of this they made Veruca and her parents Texan instead of English. All they had to do was change 'ruddy' to 'ding-dang.'

Dude, she wouldn't last one day. The second she'd pick up a pen, she'd become a ticking time bomb.

Those worker women might as well start writing their resignation letters now.
"Daddy, I want another pony." Oh come on! This should've been in both movies it's so funny how she could keep a straight face
I heard that the girl who played that brat is actually very nice and kind in real life, not only that but she also confessed to having a crush on the boy who played Charlie.
Does that mean people who are spoiled irl play non spoiled characters 😂
As a math guy I'm actually impressed they stayed consistent.
19,000 bars an hour, 8 hours a day for five days = 760,000 bars
Assuming if the women worked from ages 20-65 (45 consecutive years) on that 8 hours 5 days a week schedule, that would mean they’d work 11,700 days. 760,000 (the number of bars that would be opened on a 5 day schedule) x 11,700 = 8,892,000,000. Almost 9 billion bars. To put into perspective into how much that is, the world population as of July 2022 is currently sitting at 8 billion. There would be more opened and wasted Wonka bars than there are people on Earth.
They probably worked more than 8 hour days
760,000 bars is almost one for every resident of San Francisco
@@CarsonK you could just scan each unopened bar with x ray machines until the ticket is found, then the empty bars can be sold on the shelves and make profit
It doesn't matter if you use the average price of a candy bar for the year the book was published or the year this movie was released. In either case, once you adjust for inflation, you're going to be fuming. Not to mention the money this is costing Mr. Salt's business and all that wasted chocolate.
Roy Kinnear is amazing in this scene! Great actor gone too soon! Love how stressed and worried he is about the ticket!
If my boss was paying me to hunt for that ticket and I found it, I'd stick in my pocket, take it home, wait until the other 4 were found, and then give it my own kid.
EnemyAce88 the tim burton movie actually addressed and resolved that plot hole
Warren Flinn I refused to even watch that. People who try to remake classics like this should be in jail.
we all know the new one is inferior to the old, but that doesn't mean it didn't succeed by itself. And again, they did address some of the original's plot holes while also getting that chocolate river to look like actual chocolate
the new one is actually closer to the book than this one, and the author of the book hated this movie tbh
+jo mama True, though authors often hate movies based on their books.
Like Stephen King, who hated the movie adaptation of his book the Shining
waste of precious chocolate!
I know right?!
Well keep in mind when Willy Wonka sent those five golden tickets out during the contest, people were obviously going to buy hundreds of thousands of Wonka bars just to find one ticket.

absolutely brilliant, the acting was so genuine, nowadays you can't produce this anymore!
Roy Kinnear was brilliant as Mr Salt. He's at his wit's end and yet he still can't bring himself to say no.
Veruca makes Draco Malfoy and Dudley Dursley look like angels. Her father reminds me of Vernon Dursley.
If the prize for finding a golden ticket is a lifetime supply of chocolate then there's no reason for Veruca to find one because it looks like she already has a lifetime supply with all those boxes of candy bars.
She wanted a golden ticket to be better than everyone else.
I don’t think it was really fair, Veruca did not find the golden ticket herself, the Salt’s Peanuts worker found it
I noticed something; Veruca sitting in her father's boss chair symbolises that "she" is the boss of her father so he gives her what she wants.
Great eye
I always felt so happy for the girl that found it.

You found it, Veruca? Yeah right.
I always wondered that too, lol. :D
Slugworth probably can teleport to anywhere in the world.
Nice work!

Now how much do these workers get paid if a one pound bonus is enough to send them screaming with excitement?
this movie was set when the Uk still used pounds, shillings and pence, pounds were made of gold and held alot more value than they do now
What absolute rubbish.
lol - no - but they were worth a lot more than today's pound.
They get a bonus PLUS they don't have to listen to Veruca whine anymore. "What's the mattuh with those twuhps down theah?"
I love how nobody’s questioning the fact that “Slugworth” is just THERE, in the middle of the factory.

The 2005 remake is nonexistent compared to this, the 1971 movie will never be beaten.

The remake was ok, at best. But still shit.

I honestly think Veruca’s much worse in this original version than she is in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”
Yeah, but that's what makes this version more worth while.
Not really, she was a more cold and manipulative in the other version.
@@robertisham5279no she was not
I feel like both characters are handled very differently.
Wonka at the start, and was relatively nice to everyone until either:
1. Wonka started being ‘weird’
@@MrChrisMcLean do mean the new wonka film because that is a sequel to the 2005 one
