Part of her little nice girl bipolar persona, as she skips and fake-smiles -- right after being totally frenzied with greed and anger -- so funny, and such a good interpretation from a 13-year-old on her birthday. Love this performance.

I wonder if the child actress who played Veruca had fun singing this song during both rehearsal and takes. Oh, what am I thinking? Of course, she must have! Singing for the cameras as every little girl's dream.
2:35 I can't help but notice that. When Vercua stood on the garbage chute, it took a few seconds before she finally fell down. However, the moment Mr. Salt touches it, he just IMMEDIATELY falls down.
Well, it was a large industrial type scale, I suppose it fell because it was much heavier than a golden egg, that made the difference from a good one since perhaps a heavier one could be rotten. So immediately when you step on the trapdoor it is activated to let it fall down the garbage chute. And her father, with much more weight than her, would immediately take ownership.
The commentary says it was her singing (pre-recorded of course)? That makes me happy. As an actor she didn't seem that great to me. But as an actor and a singer she is superb. And on reflection, the whole thing is a morality play anyway, a kind of anarchic heightened realism, so the acting is kind of perfect as well. There is no uncanny valley to fall into, as with the remake.
Have you noticed that everyone who likes the remake is like 12 years old? Like I know they grew up with the movie, but I didn't grow up with either one, and I have to say the original (Gene Wilder movie) is WAY better than the remake.
LOL. I love how Charlie didn’t pay no mind to this spoiled brat. Even when I saw this as a child, I knew Veruca was a bad egg. 9/10 times bad eggs typically produce bad eggs. And this was a beautiful example. To the furnace you go!
Julie Dawn Cole, the girl who played Veruca Salt, went on to a long, successful acting and singing career in the UK. Her talent was apparent even in this movie, as she is the only child who was given a singing solo.
As detestable as the character of Veruca Salt is, there’s no denying Julie Dawn Cole is fantastic in this role. Still blows me away she filmed this scene on her 13th birthday. “It’s my bar of chocolate, give it to me now” love that line specifically
I like how Wonka just stands there while she goes on her song-filled hissy fit. That’s how I feel when I see a child acting up at Walmart: face-palming Wonka
She own it. Love the energy and focus. What a wonderful and iconic performance... From the days when we just made movies... without thinking about sequels or building a 'universe'.
When I first saw this movie, I was puzzled about the part where Rupert Salt and Wonka have a laugh. I thought that Rupert was relieved that he was finally free from Veruca’s demands and was laughing triumphantly. But then when Wonka revealed the furnace, he remembered it was his daughter and his daddy-side came back with him worriedly going after her.😂
Aww! That is what I call a very sweet ole father. He jumped into that thing to save his little girl & he would do anything in the work for her. In the right way that is.
I always thought having her want a Golden Goose was a way to make this not just about spoiled children but also make something adults would crave, people don’t talk enough about how this movie manages to combine the morals of Dahl’s book with clever critique of society that was relevant then and now. Also, I find it interesting that Wonka barely moves or reacts throughout this scene. Almost like he anticipated it happening. Its like this the whole movie its like he’s the director placed inside his own movie.
At 1:39, Notice how Wonka just stands there while she throws a tantrum. As he puts his hand over his mouth, shaking his head, it's as if he's thinking, "(sigh) Oh dear. What are we going to do with her?" in very calm way. Good acting by Gene Wilder.
Gooses! Geeses! I want my geese to lay gold eggs for easter. (It will sweet heart.) A hundred a day! (Anything you say!) By the way.... (What?) I want a feast. Veruca Salt: I want it now! Me: So you want it now, you say? Veruca: Yes! I want it now. Me: If you say so... (Opens door, Pennywise the Clown steps in) Me: What? You want IT now....and here IT is.
you’d think with a dad that’s like veruca’s you’d think he’d actually start trying to re-teach his daughter. i mean, he should do something like the next time she asks for something say no and if she starts whining either look away and wait for her to get tired of throwing a fit or lock her up in a small room until she stops screaming

I love Mike TV, hands on his knees, watching this meltdown like it’s another great program. The way he jumps back when the cart she pushes topples over the stacks of boxes is so funny to me, it’s such a nice background thing.
Veruca will always be my favorite Willy Wonka character 😂😂
Gooses, geeses
I want my geese to lay gold eggs for easter
At least a hundred a day
And by the way
I want a feast
I want a bean feast
Cream buns and doughnuts
And fruitcake with no nuts
So good you could go nuts
No, now
I want a ball
I want a party
Pink macaroons
And a million balloons
And performing baboons and
Give it to me now
I want the world
I want the whole world
I want to lock it
All up in my pocket
It's my bar of chocolate
Give it to me now
I want today
I want tomorrow
I want to wear 'em
Like braids in my hair and
I don't want to share 'em
I want a party with roomfuls of laughter
Ten thousand tons of ice cream
And if I don't get the things I am after
I'm going to scream
I want the works
I want the whole works
Presents and prizes
And sweets and surprises
Of all shapes and sizes
And now
Don't care how, I want it now
Don't care how, I want it now
She was a bad egg.
“I want a ball”
Bruh I thoguht she said “I want a bowl”
That last part should say "I want it noooooooooooooooooow."

@@-IMAGINE_ Yeah
she's actually a really good singer, especially for her age!
I wonder if the child actress who played Veruca had fun singing this song during both rehearsal and takes. Oh, what am I thinking? Of course, she must have! Singing for the cameras as every little girl's dream.
"I want a bean feast!"
Ah yes. Every child's dream.
"Oh, one of those!"
Every American child:
🤯?????
I don't even know what that is. A feast with beans? 🤔

She's a good actress for her young age...
For any age, she’s a good actress.
I love how coordinated and elegantly she spins that cart around. at 1:44
2:35 I can't help but notice that. When Vercua stood on the garbage chute, it took a few seconds before she finally fell down. However, the moment Mr. Salt touches it, he just IMMEDIATELY falls down.
Well…he was much bigger than his daughter 😂
Seriously though, he’s actually making an effort to dive after her so no wonder it gives way
Well, it was a large industrial type scale, I suppose it fell because it was much heavier than a golden egg, that made the difference from a good one since perhaps a heavier one could be rotten. So immediately when you step on the trapdoor it is activated to let it fall down the garbage chute. And her father, with much more weight than her, would immediately take ownership.
We'll be pushed against it.
1:39-1:50
I love how while she's destroying everything Wonka is just kinda in the corner like: Could you not?
He made up for it by being entirely calm, matter of fact, and a tad giddy about her burning alive off screen.
it probably reminds him of the scene in the wonka shop where his shop got burnt down because of the yeti poison
And Mike is laughing while Veruca is destroying everything meanwhile Charlie is just standing there like a mature teenager.
Pretty much what my cats are like
My youngest cat is Augustist gloop
Specifically siamese.
I always can't help but notice the part where she messes up the lip sync at 01:16 ("I don't want to share them!").
And at 0:37 Mr. Salt messes up too!
Actually she really sang, they mention in the commentary. You're debunked.
Yes, but it's prerecorded in a studio and then lip-synced.
Veruca Salt: I want Diabetes and I want it Now...
So Veruca Salt wanted to Die young ?
Hi I’m Wilford Brimley.
…and here is your diabeetus Veruca!
I like how there is a comment about Diabetes in a video of a Ojou-Sama ranting.
wilford brimley:''diabeetus.''
Most relatable kid of the 5 and this performance holds up today! Bravo!
"most relatable" uhhh
This is my second fav song in this movie. This scene is so well executed and catchy.
R.I.P Gene wilder. Your the only Willy Wonka I'll love
What happened to him?
:( how?
Poor guy. R.I.P Gene Wilder. :( He is the only Willy Wonka :(
Danny Daniel yay the Johnny Depp Willy Wonka is nothing compared to Gene Wilder Willy Wonka
Have you noticed that everyone who likes the remake is like 12 years old? Like I know they grew up with the movie, but I didn't grow up with either one, and I have to say the original (Gene Wilder movie) is WAY better than the remake.
Wonka Standing there like a Boss
LOL. I love how Charlie didn’t pay no mind to this spoiled brat. Even when I saw this as a child, I knew Veruca was a bad egg. 9/10 times bad eggs typically produce bad eggs. And this was a beautiful example. To the furnace you go!
And her dad too
Grandpa Joe: “We’ll Mr. Salt finally got what he wanted.”
Charlie: What’s that Grandpa?
Grandpa Joe: “Veruca went first.”
Julie Dawn Cole, the girl who played Veruca Salt, went on to a long, successful acting and singing career in the UK. Her talent was apparent even in this movie, as she is the only child who was given a singing solo.
Veruca has always been my fav, even in the newer one
Seth Imperial this is the old one
As detestable as the character of Veruca Salt is, there’s no denying Julie Dawn Cole is fantastic in this role. Still blows me away she filmed this scene on her 13th birthday. “It’s my bar of chocolate, give it to me now” love that line specifically
THIS is how you do a spoilt brat! I mean, this acting is amazing! In the Tim Burton version she acts....stern..scary??????
you're right, in Tim Burton's she's just stupid
I came here from the Cooke family episode on supernanny
I didn't like Veruca in Tim Burton's movie. I like the original Veruca the best. Because she represents your spoiled selfish brat!
body language, facial expressions, intonation all meshed sublimely to fill out Veruca's character. A superb performance
She sang this on her 13th birthday so she will never forget this day what a great memory to have.
When I first saw this movie, I was puzzled about the part where Rupert Salt and Wonka have a laugh. I thought that Rupert was relieved that he was finally free from Veruca’s demands and was laughing triumphantly. But then when Wonka revealed the furnace, he remembered it was his daughter and his daddy-side came back with him worriedly going after her.😂
"I want to lock it all up in my pocket, it's my bar of chocolate!"
Love that line.

0:02 Gettin real tired of your shit Veruca.
Too right, Scott Krasman.
It was her own fault she fell down the Eggdicator.
how dare you talk to her like that!!😠
+Sandra Khabbas -_-
Did Mr Salt think Wonka was kidding about Veruca getting burned
At 1:39,
Notice how Wonka just stands there while she throws a tantrum. As he puts his hand over his mouth, shaking his head, it's as if he's thinking, "(sigh) Oh dear. What are we going to do with her?" in very calm way. Good acting by Gene Wilder.
I love how the songwriters make her so greedy she not only demands all of space but also time as well 1:08

you’d think with a dad that’s like veruca’s you’d think he’d actually start trying to re-teach his daughter. i mean, he should do something like the next time she asks for something say no and if she starts whining either look away and wait for her to get tired of throwing a fit or lock her up in a small room until she stops screaming
