I have a few questions for you guys. First, what record did you give to Houston going into 2023? Did you think the Jets were a playoff team? What week did Herbert get injured? Mike Williams? Corey Lindsley? Do you feel that Austin Ekeler returned to form after his injury early in the season or was the O-Line just that bad? How much of an impact did wiffing on J.C. Jackson have on the Chargers defense?
Personally I think all the prognostications are flawed in that they usually rely heavily on what happened last year. I don't know if you heard, but there's a new sheriff in town and the BS that went on in this organization last year is over. Basing wins this year on wins / losses last year is kinda weak. Maybe look at those lineups. Honestly, the Jets last year....everyone's Superbowl darling. I don't know anyone that didn't predict them going to the playoffs. 4 plays into the season that changed. They've upgraded their line but is it enough? We know for fact that team is one bad play, one late hit, one bad decision away from being the 2023 Jets again. And yet everyone still loves them as Superbowl contenders.
The Chargers floor improved vastly, which is significant considering their history losing players to injury. They upgraded their strength conditioning team and expanded it. They are going to run the hell out of that ball. Philosophy and culture change over night. Mack and Bosa took pay cuts to stay. You don't think that's significant? Yeah, the WR has to prove itself, but honestly, they will be the second act to the run game. And I think we're going to see what it looks like when you have a damned good line schemed to run in front of Herbert. They are playoff bound...that is the floor.
The Bolt is the same. The colors are the same. Some of the players are the same. But everything else is different. This is a new team.
