I use a Bach 5B because I find it gives me a warmer sound than my other mouthpieces and also because it feels good on my lips

Damn man, you’re one hell of a player. Especially for your age! Congrats! Also I personally switched to Monette B2S3 and B3F S7 from Bach 2C and a Bach 1-1/4C. Both worked okay, but as I aged, they became increasingly limiting and monette just opened a whole new world of sound for me.

Bach 3c with a modified 25 backbore for regular playing and Nytc stage 1 DC mouthpiece (DC meaning double cup) for lead. It has a modified V cup towards the throat and a C cup at the rim and has similar to a 3c rim with a flatter contour overall in the rim, the throat size is 26 and has a modified backbore for a more spread out sound than a straight lead mouthpiece

Started on 7c. Then went to Bach 3c, many years. Kind of found my sound with that one. Then played Yamaha 16c4 for comfort but then I realized it was too dark so I went back to Bach 3c again. I think I will soon try yamahas around 14 or 15 to see if there is a perfect match around there between 3c size and yamaha ergonomics.

@@trumpetmax4927 Thank you for the response, and for making these videos! I'm a beginner/intermediate player looking to upgrade from a beat-up Conn 7C, the only mouthpiece I've used the >5 years I've been playing. I've never played with a band or orchestra, so I have very little intuitive sense of just how much difference different mouthpieces make to the sound. I'd love to see an apples-to-apples comparison. Whatever you might do would likely be helpful, but a comparison between mouthpieces like a cheap Bach clone, Bach, and Monette Silver/Classic/Prana would be amazing.

@@trumpetmax4927 Great video! I do agree with @Aidan Boyer with using the same pieces. I'm a trumpet player in my mid-20's and for me, even though you can hear the difference between each mouthpiece, it was hard to distinguish the big differences between each mouthpiece as they were played the way they were meant to be used. Playing each mouthpiece with one or more (preferably a couple - but hey, what do I know. I'm also on my way in the mouthpiece journey.) pieces would show the important differences between them and why they are/were used for they were.

Hey Max I enjoyed this comparison video. I purchased a Monette resonance B6S1 this summer and I love, itw great for overall playing. I want to try a good lead mouthpiece from them I just dont want to buy another resonance mp without trying it out. You sound great on the gram by the way.

Hi Ephraim, I appreciate the comment! I understand the concern of buying a lead Monette without trying it. For me, I knew I already liked the dimensions on the B6S1 so I just bought a shallower lead version of that (B6L S1). If it doesn't work out for you, it also seems Monettes maintain relatively high resale values for the most part, so hopefully that's reassuring.

    • @trumpetmax4927

The "embouchure headout" I added into the video was in relation to the end of the phrase when I didn't connect the last 2 notes. My embouchure wasn't firm enough to support the smooth note transition and the break in the sound resulted.

Hi from Italy! I have used a lot of mouthpieces in my life:
    Getzen 7c, 1c
    Yamaha 17b4,15E4,16e4
    Bach 1c , 1 1/4c , 1 1/2c corp. , 1 1/2c Artisan
    Breslmair three pieces mouthpiece
    Monette traditional plus 6
But now I’m using Yamaha 15e4 (sometimes I’m using Breslmair and, rarely, Bach 1 1/2c artisan too) on Bb,C,D,Eb trumpets and I’m using a Bach 7E 117 on my piccolo
Yamaha 15e4 is very deep but it helps me to control the flow constancy. I have chosen some mouthpieces cause I’m searching an orchestral sound but I use the same set in concert repertoire. I advice u to try some breslmair mouthpiece. I use it from years and I’m very proud .

I want to use less air with a better sound. I play a 190 50th Anniversary Stradivarius. It’s built old school like my prior Mt Vernon.I’m looking at the Monette B4SS2. It has the Mt Vernon C cup

Great video man! Since you’ve had a lot of success with Monette pieces, I’d recommend you try some Lotus mouthpieces if you get the chance. You’ll notice some similarities in terms of the improved intonation and things like that but I personally had a better experience with Lotus than Monette. I played a B2LS3 for about a year and then got the Lotus 2M+ and I had a better experience with the Lotus (and they don’t hurt the bank as much). I’d recommend any of the mouthpieces in the 3 rim for you. I also have a 3S+ and although my main lead piece right now is the Wayne Bergeron GR Studio, the Lotus 3S+ is an AMAZING lead mouthpiece. Especially for all cats coming from a 3C/6S1 kind of mouthpiece, you’ll feel the familiarity but you’ll also feel that spark. Lotus mouthpieces are amazing
