  • Despite a similar motor to the Nilfisk GM80 the specs weren't quite as good though it certainly showed powerful suction despite the open ports.

I am Dutch and I grew up with 2 of these at home! They were really common in Netherlands like 1 of 8 households had these machines! Really competing with Miele for the luxery vacuums! After this version came the Vision Excel from Philips with 425 airwatts, which evolved in the Philips specialist series vacuums, to the Performer series with 550-600 airwatts and even in 2024 there is a model which is the great great grandson from this vacuum

i'm so used to them being an uncommon sight that it's so odd to me to imagine them being everywhere like that. I did take a look at their UK website and noticed the one bagged machine they had listed has been discontinued.

Yeah Philips only sells in the european market in the 2 pin plug countries! And Asia, the newer vacuums are not that great anymore :(

@@jeroentabor4760 Okay, so the UK site wasn't an ideal place to see their lineup then? I'm not too familiar with different styles of plugs. Hmm yeah that's unfortunate but pretty typical of most manufacturers most brands "Aren't what they used to be."

While it might not be worth the effort, it would be cool to see my double hole box working at your place. 😁

These are very nice vacuums. Extremely common model (straight suction) in Europe. I am trying to find survivor to my collection. I have older (mid 80's) Philips P74 Electronic and it also has the same style motor what is in your GM80. All I can say about it is "over engineered" It has very complex exhaust channeling going around the bag compartment like a spiral and whole channel walls are coated with foam. Exhaust air comes out from top of the bag compartment. Bag full indicator "sensor" is metal flap floating in the exhaust air channel. So it only measures airflow, not suction. All I can hear is air flowing through the vacuum. Sounds like nothing else. So no wonder yours also had few design "quirks".

That sounds interesting it if i'm picturing this right is like Sebo's airbelt but with a spiral shaped exhaust channel?

@@Blackheartvacs Motor exhaust air goes under the bag compartment and spiral from there to top of the bag compartment.

Any secret to finding bags for these? I have a Dutch tech dtx1200 that I LOVE but can no longer find them anywhere. You mentioned I could import them in the video - could you share a site link with me - please

I guess locating new old stock would be the secret to it but that's always a hit and miss type of thing. As for importing bags....
