    Respectfully, lack of free camping in WA isn't a legal issue. 🙏
    It's those travellers who break the local rules, leave their mess and disrespect country that will see more and more places closed off or "managed" to restrict access.
    I'm hoping your obvious love for camping, touring and respect for our great state of WA will influence the people who follow you to also do the right thing.
    Thanks

      Around 2000 WA was such an awesome place. You could camp ANYWHERE! But I sort of agree with the introduction of illegal camping because people simply took it for granted and abused it.

      We hope so too, we always leave no trace and wish others would do the same. So many places have rubbish and toilet tissue and in the end councils close these areas . Thanks for watching 👍🤩

      @@turtletrackstravels It would honestly be a brave Government official that ordered you to move on, if you were taking a rest break from driving, that could be over a few hours even. Obviously, people should be aware of parking in areas with attention to their own safety, and that of others. Fatigue anyway can be one of those things, that hits you, and no one should force anyone to keep driving if they are like this or if they are unwell. It would pay to get the official's name, where they work, in this event. Per your reference per Rangers, I am assuming you mean a National Park Ranger? Maybe Council parking ranger, or police?? National park rangers should only be responsible for national park areas! Anyway, I found this guide to travelling in Western Australia, inclusive of resting stops, even allowing up to 24 hr stays. Ideally, it is always better to plan out trips around rest locations, but again, people can also get caught out. Too many horrible accidents as is, so always it is better for all concerned to err on the side of caution. May you continue to enjoy safe travels. @@turtletrackstravels it's my understanding that if you could legally park your car and leave it there overnight, you can sleep there overnight. So you can free camp anywhere that isn't signposted saying something to the effect of "no camping", "no overnight parking" or some other restriction like normal parking areas, such as 2 hour parking (obviously). Either the ranger was lying to you, or he didn't explain properly.

    So, back in the good old days you could camp anywhere across Australia, but as public lands and state forests moved into National parks free camping has significantly disappeared. This is a major issue happening in Victoria today with the Great Forest Nation Park proposal.
    In WA free camping (unless assigned by Gov) is illegal and currently carries a $1000 fine. Some argue this is revenue raising for both tourist operators and aboriginal communities, but regardless it does make travel unviable for some.
    There is also the senseless. For example in the Nuytsland Nature Reserve WA it will take you 2 - 3 days driving to follow the Old Telegraph track and yet ALL Camping is prohibited. Obviously people simply ignore the law.
    But when you travel Australia you also learn about the dark side, and some of that dark side is Australia really is increasingly only a country for the wealthy. As such, I think if you cant afford to be paying for accommodation in WA when there is no allocated free camping then you probably shouldn't be there.

    • @turtletrackstravels
      @turtletrackstravels  15 днів тому +1

      Thanks for the information, you’ve made some really interesting points. I think most people, like you said are just ignoring it and hope they don’t get caught. 👍🤩

    Hey guys how ye doing.
    So question I have and it seems no one ever seems to give a good explanation of it.
    We are planning to do what ye guys are doing in the future.
    But i wish someone would please explain on video and show what systems ye use.
    So portable toilet I know it’s not a nice topic but if ya don’t know you don’t know eh…
    Do you guys use a chemical or compost.??
    And showers do ye have a heater or what sorta setup have ye got and if so, how much water do ye carry and how many showers can you get??
    TIA any info greatly appreciated.
    Apologies for the awkward topic😂

    • @turtletrackstravels
      @turtletrackstravels  15 днів тому

      Hi, we use a chemical toilet but don’t put chemical in it so we have the option to dig a hole and bury it if needed, we try to empty it frequently (every 1 to 2 days) so it doesn’t really smell. We don’t have a hot water system, cold showers most of the time, if water is too cold we boil a kettle lol . We carry 80 L but when we can we use creek water instead of our drinking water, how many showers we get is difficult to answer depending on where you’re camping and how long for, some places you have to be economical because you can’t get water so maybe you won’t shower for a couple of days….when we do use our water we use 10L each…..we show system in our 4month review ua-cam.com/video/_R3HOrAxNQU/v-deo.htmlsi=5YvNu1xeUpd2akro

      @@turtletrackstravels I think he's wrong.Usually the sign should say you can't camp. Also camping is not legally defined in Australian federal law, but maybe in Western Australia. There's also jurisdictional issues, like a shire council can't legally dictate what happens in your vehicle as it's the jurisdiction of the Road Authority. Parking isn't camping. Everyone has a right to sleep on crown land.
