Another tip 16:06-18:00, the Conqs were sitting there doing nothing but wasting time along with their power-spike window which is Castle Age. They could have at least been healing with the monks so close OR doing exploring, patrolling, raiding. Anything, but sitting there doing nothing.
in the lategame there were a bunch missing defensive techs: ballistic and range upgrades for the castles, and for specially for spanish: supremacy. otherwise: he played Conqs like he is going 1 TC in Castle Age, babysitting them as much as possible, not like an Imp game. an Imp game needs an Imp mindset. "Quantity has a quality on its own"
Yeah, he had 75 farms at one point while floating 7k food. Converting all that into halberdier and siege ram would be devastating for the Frank player.
If you have a group of monks with the Theocracy tech (critical here) you can also highlight the whole group and quickly shift-queue them onto a bunch of different targets, and they will switch from one target to the next as they convert them WITHOUT resetting their conversion timers, so the conversions come in faster and faster after the first one. Still not quite as effective as splitting up the monks onto different targets initially, but MUCH faster and easier to micro in a high-pressure situation where there's a lot to focus on.
Red's biggest mistake was not jumping on halberdier early. If you are facing Franks and you have a good ranged unit like conq, tech into hablerdier and siege ram ASAP and push.
Another few small things, get the second wood upgrade as soon as you get to Castle age. And if you are booming, once you make like 30 40 farms get handcart, maybe a little sooner if you want. also did he ever get any mining technologies?? If you are planning on making a heavy gold unit like monks or knights i recommend getting at least the first gold mining technology on the way up to castle age that way you can make more monks, quicker
I'm at 1050 elo so this was really helpfull. Basicly if you boom go to ~50 farms asap, then produce a lot of thrash units beside your main unit and spam them on your opp. Also what he could have kept conqs between 2 castles and wall the other part of his eco on the side with stone walls. The gate at main eco would help as well, hussars in eco is terrible to deal with. And yeah, I see franks I spam halbs. My biggest problem is what you said about gold and buying rolex xd, I dont spend that fast enough and I know I should. GJ Hera, keep these coming!
start using the market this times, is way better than having floating gold, even stone to make more castles and get map control or wood to build a lot of production buildings
I guess it all boils down to early imp macro. Both played the macro game, but once imp was clicked, blue set himself to reach 200 pop full upgrades, while red just sat on thousands of food
He did a great job setting up eco and defensive castle positions, but the knights could still raid for free - really could have used fletching, bodkin, ballistics
I think against Franks or any top tier cavalry civ you absolutely need to go Halberdier and force him into a tech switch. The natural response for Franks and most cav civs is the Hand Cannoneer because the Archer/Skirmisher line is usually not that great (barring civs like Magyars). If they go Hand Cannons that's lower Paladin numbers and vice versa. As a Frank player it really hurts me when I click Paladin and can't afford to make too many.
Hera can play on defense the whole game, and the enemy will resign. At 1150 ELO, the attacker always wins; my theory is that because both sides are making lots of mistakes; these mistakes are more costly for the defender.
I come from a starcraft 2 background and just getting into AoE something that I've noticed in this game is that the frank player gave up map control up until castle age, then the map was basically all for him, he even started mining the spanish resources and forced the spanish to micro their villagers (something that happens less in sc2, since workers in there are centered around the base, workers in AoE work in a larger area, more vulnerable to raids) it's hard to fight on the same place your units spawn from, if you are fighting on top of your production, that's really bad so...., usually defending is easier because of defenders advantage, but in RTS I've noticed that "reacting" to what your opponent does forces way more mistakes, specially at lower ranks (Hera can correct me the f* all he wants btw xd')
Also just general efficiency loss from the fight being in your base. You might even technically be winning trades, but still be falling behind because half your eco is fleeing or garrisoning. Both players would probably take damage if attacked, but if you're defending you're unlikely to have spare units to attack and get the necessary counter damage. On high elo players can defend while still maintaining decent eco in the rest of the base, but on my skill level I can't really do both sides at once. Side A gets attacked on goes idle, defense moves in, enemy moves on to side B. I might salvage most of side B, but in the meantime side A is still idling despite not (currently) being under assault. And by the time I'm done sending side A back to work I've lost half a dozen units from not looking at side B.
@@LeonardoSilva-gr5fx One point is that blue forfeited map control but red just didn't ever take it, except for going for a few of the relics but with little support. Also, yeah, defenders advantage is probably only a thing so long as the fight is still out of the production zone.
Opoenent had better balance on food and gold, over 30 on gold. To make more conqs would have been better to have at least 20-25 on gold and perhaos a little less food? Halbs would be useful but they are slow and would have to camp a bit at home
Didn't you watch the movies? In a digital world Hera was handicapped by being totally dead with no heartbeat, but before the game over registered he completed his technology Resurrection research as well as Stop Bullets and Exploding Conversion, he defeated three Agents solo then got the tech Super Supremacy for Superman mode. In the following game he had to 1vs100 upgraded Agent Smith player opponents. Hera is The One.
hmmm and i thought i was being clever clicking a monk to a relic and shift clicking it back to the monastery 🤣 also happy to report i just won an arena game where i was about to give up twice and didn't. Actually got to 200pop for a change, opp should've had me but was hesitant. Outboomed him and had the time to make corrections offensively. kind regards from the now 279 ELO zone :D
This guy doesnt have the skill to play micro intensive civs yet... he has been floating 3k+ food most of the game, not even researching all on queue on blacksmith which is gold free for Spanish... and very sluggish and late to make decisions and he even went second to castle age despite the resources... the only thing I liked was the monk play. This is a noob who watches too many pros play and thinks is all about being cool with the micro. AoE2 is a math and efficiency game combined with a couple chess moves, not league of legends.
God this game gave me ulcers, blue is like every second player at this ELO essentially rolling his face on the keyboard and a-moving knights and red is every poor SOB trying to do things by the book and learning a strategy that scales, only to die because his mechanics can't keep up. I get that long term a player like red is going to improve much faster than one like blue but it is just so frustrating to watch it play out short-term.
Blue is actually the better player intellectually. He knows where to spend his APM. Yes, A-moving knights into the target was the by the book thing to do while you do the real work of setting up your eco to spam them.
I watch this games and Im pretty sure I can beat both at the same time. Im at 800 elo, sometimes I go back to 700 and sometimes I go to 900 and even 1000 elo but what happens is... I ALWAYS play the game REALLY afk. Like for real, I never only play the game Im always doing something else IRL or in my second monitor like playing osrs or something like that. In 700 and 800 elo almost everygame Im like 13k points and my enemy is like 6k points and I usually wins. But sometimes Im so much AFK that even like leading the game a lot I loose because I didnt do army or didnt react or something. Im probally like a solid 1.5k elo but since I have some issues in my game that I Cant identify on my own Im unable to really beat and be on that elo. I wanted to be coached but I have no money for it, for me a little Brasillian its very pricey. But maybe one day Ill and Ill finally know why Im loosing my games
Stop delusional posting about your excuses, go out and play if you wanna prove yourself. Saying I would win against both is just empty words and not interesting to anyone other than you.
é só ir jogando e subindo de elo que vai ter tanta coisa acontecendo que mesmo prestando atenção vc vai deixar passar, e assistindo o replay por aqui parece mais facil do que é realmente
Red floating 6000 food, blue floating 3500 gold. These reviews are painful to watch and really aren't worth casting. I don't even know how these ~1200 elo videos are 1200 elo.
The ELO is in the title. You are free to skip the video next time. I personally enjoy watching him cast players at my level making the same mistakes I do.
I think you're missing the point of these : p Also, to me the fact they look to you like they shouldn't be at their elo and yet they are is in itself something interesting.
Just getting back into aoe2, appreciate you still dropping help for the 1000-ish club
No worries, I'm doing exactly this in the 1000ish club. YAY THE BOOM IS GOING, oh it was already the build masses phase :(
"if you get punished for no loom blame it on something else" that's what I learned from Hera today.
Another tip 16:06-18:00, the Conqs were sitting there doing nothing but wasting time along with their power-spike window which is Castle Age.
They could have at least been healing with the monks so close OR doing exploring, patrolling, raiding. Anything, but sitting there doing nothing.
Shift Queue on the Monk should be a YT short
Or a 20 min sotl-video
when you finish watching a Hera video and Hera uploads a new video
The answer to frank paladin is always German panzer
in the lategame there were a bunch missing defensive techs: ballistic and range upgrades for the castles, and for specially for spanish: supremacy.

Yeah, he had 75 farms at one point while floating 7k food. Converting all that into halberdier and siege ram would be devastating for the Frank player.
Imp is mostly macro and map control. Get to 200 pop and stay there while you work on your map control positioning.
I had no CLUE you could shift queue monks thats huge
If you have a group of monks with the Theocracy tech (critical here) you can also highlight the whole group and quickly shift-queue them onto a bunch of different targets, and they will switch from one target to the next as they convert them WITHOUT resetting their conversion timers, so the conversions come in faster and faster after the first one. I shift queue monks when going for relics.
love these reviews, will watch and comment every time
That's the problem when you only play defense. Blue lost tons of units but his economy never struggled because it wasn't attacked.
He was starving with 6k food in the fridge.
I haven’t heard anyone else talk about that monk tip, thanks Hera! Helpful and entertaining video as always.
Every time a TC is dropped one should ring it with farms ASAP. Just have the mental image of TCs not being complete without farms around them.
Red's biggest mistake was not jumping on halberdier early. If you are facing Franks and you have a good ranged unit like conq, tech into hablerdier and siege ram ASAP and push.
I put in practice your tips and im rocket climbing ELO, thank you sir Hera good to see comunity is growing
That monk tip at 11:00 is fantastic. Only problem is we only have so many apm at our disposal down at 1100 😢
You're the goat my dude!!

Had cav armor x2 and attack upgrade x2 with zero cav, but no archer armor? Was this prep for the stables or a mistake for the conq's armor?
It’s so cool to see ae2 is still going strong :)

The winged hussars didn’t arrive
Quick question:
Why couldn‘t blue just invade with the knights at 14:53 ?
I guess it all boils down to early imp macro. Both played the macro game, but once imp was clicked, blue set himself to reach 200 pop full upgrades, while red just sat on thousands of food
Loving these 1000-1300 rec reviews
Great Series!
He did a great job setting up eco and defensive castle positions, but the knights could still raid for free - really could have used fletching, bodkin, ballistics
"straggler trees are super important for mid late game" Ah yes, me too I wait until I click imp to use them
Good analytics hera
We are not a big crew, but we need this ^^

Anyone has a video to the previous rec from this player? Really liking those 1100-1300 reviews
I get better every time I listen to these
6:25 lol idk what his think process was there
problem? floating 6k food 😂 gg
GOOD GAME
Hera is coming to my house o.O bring out the red carpet!!!
I enjoy watching these vids so much I dont get enough practice time in 11

Floating resources is terrible, he had the economy to have a meat shield in front of his conquistadors.
I come from a starcraft 2 background and just getting into AoE

Can't play the game right now bc of the weird EULA issue, wth is going on with that
Hera cannot imagine all the creative ways I lose at 1200 ELO 11

Good tips
what about Hera (200% handicap) vs 3 pros (or maybe 4 if it's not too much), that would be interesting, that might be very intense

Hera is The One.
Having such big stack of conqs and never use them to raid enemy base at least once is such a shame.
yessirr

As an 1000 ELO player, it scares me just how much better than me both these players are. Without a doubt Hold Fast would have steamrolled me
What do you do when you float 6000 food as a meso civ?
eagles, eagles everywhere
Pretty sure those farmers don't make enough to be middle class.
lol preaching about strangler trees lol, hera is top form now
Hera, did you see RedPhosporu's latest micro video? Huuuuge deal
All of this, by the way, doesn't matter, um, because we all die one day. JAJJAJ QUE HD1000P

Nah, I don't use eco balance to fix my eco issues. I use market 😅
5:32 Hera can I have a personal invitation to make a farm :)
Hera why you calling out my elo like this?
Now I have to watch 11
We all die one day xD😂😂😂😂❤❤❤
Kill the ram with the vils ;)
Any 1000-1100 elo players here? I'll practice with you.
I love throwing games at 1150 elo. Throwing the game right out THE GOD DAMN WINDOW!
FR I can't understand how these people with that mistakes are 1150... then my matchups are against Viper cousins or something...
