I was born in 1963 & 4 years later I was given a stack of comics. I treasured the artwork & was motivated to teach myself to read so that I could follow the stories in those pages. I read as many as I could get, all types but DC super-heroes were my favorite. Superman was too powerful & too Sci-Fi but I enjoyed the stories with Bizarro, Superboy & Krypto (but not Legion of Super-Heroes), Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen that had humor along with Justice League / Society, Teen Titans, non-super humans like Green Arrow, Black Canary & the Brave & Bold matchups of Batman & guest.I stopped reading comics at age 12 (‘75) when I thought that I should focus more on girls, sports, music & cars. In 1985 I read the Crisis On Infinite Earths & that made me feel like DC was trying to erase my memories out of existence. My caring about the DC universe after that point was killed along with those forgotten characters but I may go back and re-read some of those stories from the Silver / Bronze Age and those from ‘75 - ‘84. The Earth-2 idea was a good one but it was mishandled badly. First the names were backward, on Jay Garrick’s world Bruce Wayne was born before his counterpoint on “E-1” (Barry Allen’s Earth) so it should have been the true E-1. I will come back to this soon. Superman was the big cheese at DC but because he is not a native Earthling and there are Bruce Waynes on both worlds, I’ll use Bruce as my example and imagine that there is a dimensional “direction” from E-2 (my name for Barry’s home) to E-1 (Jay’s home). If Barry continued in this direction on the other side of E-1 he should find a 3rd Earth, E-0. There is a method to my madness. So say in 1970 there would be a 30 YO Bruce (Batman) on E-2, a 50 YO Bruce (Batman) on E-1 and a 70 YO Bruce that was never orphaned on E-0. Earth-0 was the last Earth to have no super-heroes and Earth-1 was the first. Beyond E-0 there would be a 90 YO Bruce born in 1880 on E-(-1), and so on. Now in the opposite direction on the other side of E-2 would be an Earth-3 with a Bruce born in 1960, E-4 Bruce born in 1980, E-5 born in 2000 and E-6 born 2020. All other characters’ ages and events could be adjusted to Bruce’s age. I chose the 20 year gap to make it easy with Batman-1 debuting in 1940, Batman-2 in 1960, #3 in 1980, #4 in 2000 and #5 in 2020. This would allow for stories to occur in all time frames. Suppose 1860 Bruce is in a situation where he devises some weird bat-themed items to accomplish his goals. I would leave it to the pro writers to flesh out the details but I think this could have worked. If certain characters weren’t popular, just leave them out of the next generation or let them die & maybe reemerge on another world a few decades later.
wow, so many ideas here. When I was young, I also thought myself to understand more words so I can understand comics :) I think the goal of the New Earth era was to set al DC characters in one timeline after the Crisis.
@@DCnez In my proposed structure there would be infinite Earths but the timeline would be the same; currently it is 2024 on every Earth. Stories set in 1950 on E-1 (30 YO Batman-1) or 1983 on either E-2 (43 YO Batman-2) or E-3 (23 YO Batman-3) would be historical retellings and future settings are "imaginary". Current standard stories would involve Young Batman (24 YO) on just Earth (really E-5) or Old Batman (44 YO) on what could be called Earth-2 (really E-4) with occasional references to Retired Batman (64 YO) from Earth-3. Stories about Earths where it is still 1940's wartime confuse & scare me; that sounds like Hell, but maybe if it's still 1975-2000 somewhere it might seem like Heaven to me. Characters from specific times in the distant past would be gone but younger versions of them could be on subsequent Earths. Also as characters pass away and fade from the original E-1, new stories could be located there. In addition to the DC Universe there are other Universes where crossovers can occur and the rules may differ, but I'll avoid going down that rabbit hole.
Nothing is sacred to DC the last 12 years or so. Even Earth 2 has become a mockery of what it once was. I feel fully qualified and justified in my opinion! I started reading Comics in 1964 and I had access to my Uncle's Huge Collection, hundreds and hundreds of Comics from 1941 to 1964! Mostly DC, but some Timely, Independents, and early Marvel. So I knew the Justice Society early on. In addition, I was manager and eventually Owner of Comic Book Stores from 1984 to 2008! I think it's fair to say I have a LOT of Comic Book knowledge. What passes for Earth 2, and pretty much ALL DC, has been unrecognizable for over a Decade. The only thing I still do, is I still collect Action Figures and I now have a slightly fudged 31 member Justice Society as I recently added Atom Smasher and Original Golden Age Guardian.
Still these earth 2 characters are the best loved all star comics with its ever changing line up of characters but in the bronze age was a particular favourite when they bought back all star comics and introduced power girl and the batman's daughter huntress with return of old jsa villians like the thorn and sportsmaster this era definitely got ruined after first crisis and then the awful new 52
I think atheism for Starman is a silly ret-con. In the golden age he clearly had a belief in GOD like all those around the Spectre did. And I find that whole ret-conned pre-history for the Spectre a weird and unnecessary lead-in. Originally he's simply an Irish Catholic cop who is nearly a Saint at death, but still owes some penance which, because he was nearly in a state of grace, involves avenging himself. Mist JSA-ers were Irish Catholics
Hi Jay. Most of the golden age (pre-crisis) backgrounds of some dc characters were carried over / continued to New Earth. I understand that it is quite confusing but that's what we have.
No, He DOES Fly just years later. And he doesn't (at least not per Siegel) fly by "standing" in the air, but then Earth-1 also didn't until like later 1960-70s but by then Earth 2 Superman flew like that too Also Earth 2 Superman HAD "kryptonite" in K-Metal story which was unused, which was Just fragment of his home planet because per Siegel Kryptonians were charged with powers by planet itself and were strong and fast and very tough even on Krypton, but because connection was severed the fragments of Krypton gained depowering properties for Superman AND they made ordinary Earthlings super strong. But what Was released officially is story where Earth-2 Superman gets depowered and his powers physically roll back. And he could only jump high again. But then he physically trained and regained flight and other physical powers back.
Well in Earth 2 he did then Earth 1 made him 10 New Earth made him 12/13 New 52 made him 14-16 Rebirth made back to 12/13 dc is very confusing sometimes
@Will N Earth 2 Robin was never a Teen Titan. Teen Titans are Earth 1. The 2 Robins fort met in a JLA/JSA crossover, Earth 1 Robin sporting a (Neal Adams designed) Robin onesie that the Earth 2 Robin would take on in the 70s after running around in a Batman/Robin composite suit in the 60s. Of course DC messed up the whole Earth 1/Earth 2 thing in their endless senseless reboots that are no more exciting than including chocolate sprinkle on a cone ice cream.
I will argue the All-Star Squadron need to be on the list. Johnny Quick ( Chambers) and Liberty Bell ( Libby Lawrence) parents to Jessie Chambers ( Jessie Quick/Liberty Bell II) back again as Jessie Quick. Married to Hourman's son the new Hourman. Not including the android from the 853rd Century.
My friends & most at the comic shop subscribe that The Golden Age heroes are Kingdom Come characters but older versions.. ~And nobody thinks Kingdom Come SUperman is weaker then In fact he's thee Superman Prime imo.
If you don't mind me asking, what makes you think that the stories of the Golden age won't work today. I mean, I like them, most of them anyway. And sure they might be tough for some adults to swallow. But I'm sure kids would still of them.
I'm the original superman. I was the first to create the original comic book. The first ever comic book sold in the history of all of our Earths/ multiverses was made by me aka Superman. DC comics. I've created each hero seldom. Batman, flash, Wonder woman, green lantern, Martian man Hunter, hawkman. I am the original version of each character included Wonder woman. Yes I was trans before and had all of my superman abilities. Batman being my last character and most successful and I believe longest time spent development of my own persona as Bruce Wayne. I'm telling you the truth.
Are you going to make a video about Earth 3 Crime Syndicate & the Heroes of that Earth. Also i remember a comic where Supergirl beat up a Thanos lookalike character, is there an Earth where the characters resemble Marvel Characters ?
@@DCnez Indeed. The designation never made sense to me (or most others, I suspect). I always thought the world where the heroes appeared first should have been designated as "Earth 1." That didn't keep me from enjoying the superb "Earth 2" stories of the 70s, however, especially "All Star Comics" with Wally Wood's art.
"May have contributed to juvenile delinquency"? No, every claim of "Seduction Of The Innocent" the book by Fredric Wertham which began the anti-comics fervor, have been proven to be false and unfounded. It has no more validity than the current claim that videogames cause juvenile delinquency. The facts are that every generation has a percentage of kids who act out and a percentage of adults who think that it is unique to their generation and come up with ridiculous theories to justify it.

When I was young, I also thought myself to understand more words so I can understand comics :)
I think the goal of the New Earth era was to set al DC characters in one timeline after the Crisis.
In addition to the DC Universe there are other Universes where crossovers can occur and the rules may differ, but I'll avoid going down that rabbit hole.
ok I get it; but yea it will be more confusing
I think the recent Batman / Catwoman series was set in sone new version of Earth 2.
possibly
I do wish that you would have stuck with pre crisis on infinite earths backgrounds as you are talking about the golden age.
Hi Jay. Most of the golden age (pre-crisis) backgrounds of some dc characters were carried over / continued to New Earth. I understand that it is quite confusing but that's what we have.
Great summary, thank you!!
My pleasure!
No, He DOES Fly just years later. And he doesn't (at least not per Siegel) fly by "standing" in the air, but then Earth-1 also didn't until like later 1960-70s but by then Earth 2 Superman flew like that too
Also Earth 2 Superman HAD "kryptonite" in K-Metal story which was unused, which was Just fragment of his home planet because per Siegel Kryptonians were charged with powers by planet itself and were strong and fast and very tough even on Krypton, but because connection was severed the fragments of Krypton gained depowering properties for Superman AND they made ordinary Earthlings super strong.
But what Was released officially is story where Earth-2 Superman gets depowered and his powers physically roll back. And he could only jump high again. But then he physically trained and regained flight and other physical powers back.
Good n long please keep bacround music low
Thank you
I want to know what comic book that is at 19:47.
Batman Vol 1 no. 32 (December 1945)
It can’t be that. The artwork looked like it was well into the Bronze Age. It was the one of Earth Two Robin, and it took up most of the page.
Damn! Dick Greyson became Robin at eight years old!?! I guess Wayne Industries ignores the child labor laws!
Well in Earth 2 he did then Earth 1 made him 10 New Earth made him 12/13 New 52 made him 14-16 Rebirth made back to 12/13 dc is very confusing sometimes
true
@Will N Earth 2 Robin was never a Teen Titan. Teen Titans are Earth 1. The 2 Robins fort met in a JLA/JSA crossover, Earth 1 Robin sporting a (Neal Adams designed) Robin onesie that the Earth 2 Robin would take on in the 70s after running around in a Batman/Robin composite suit in the 60s. Of course DC messed up the whole Earth 1/Earth 2 thing in their endless senseless reboots that are no more exciting than including chocolate sprinkle on a cone ice cream.
@Will N Excellent
I love captain marvel Billy baston and the marvel family they are really awesome and badass.
I have them covered in Earth S as they are from Fawcett comics
@@DCnez ooh awesome man
Its in this video: ua-cam.com/video/jx3M8Vx1YxI/v-deo.html Thank you for your support
@@DCnez your welcome and I remember that video it was really great.
I forgot they made WW the JSA's secretary 💀 bruh
guns dont kill people , comic books do
I will argue the All-Star Squadron need to be on the list.
I will put them on part 3
Is it weird that I have the comic that introduced the Multiverse and got it for cheap?
My friends & most at the comic shop subscribe that The Golden Age heroes
are Kingdom Come characters but older versions..
~And nobody thinks Kingdom Come SUperman is weaker then
In fact he's thee Superman Prime imo.
If you don't mind me asking, what makes you think that the stories of the Golden age won't work today. I mean, I like them, most of them anyway. And sure they might be tough for some adults to swallow. But I'm sure kids would still of them.
I still prefer this version of Earth 2 than New 52.
HAWKMAN!!!
this is totally 💋❣💕💞💗outstanding
What do Earth Two Mormon missionaries look like?
possibly the same way they looked in the 1950s
I'm the original superman. I was the first to create the original comic book. The first ever comic book sold in the history of all of our Earths/ multiverses was made by me aka Superman. DC comics. I've created each hero seldom. Batman, flash, Wonder woman, green lantern, Martian man Hunter, hawkman. I am the original version of each character included Wonder woman. Yes I was trans before and had all of my superman abilities. Batman being my last character and most successful and I believe longest time spent development of my own persona as Bruce Wayne. I'm telling you the truth.
Your channel rocks bro.
I appreciate that! Thank you
Are you going to make a video about Earth 3 Crime Syndicate & the Heroes of that Earth.
Also i remember a comic where Supergirl beat up a Thanos lookalike character, is there an Earth where the characters resemble Marvel Characters ?
earth 3 is on my list. Thanks
@@DCnez Cool , Owlman is one of my favourite characters
If Green Lantern is affected by wood. How does he phase through a wooden wall. Makes no sense 😕
no idea
Give me Johnny Thunder!
GA Superman could fly.
Johnny Thunder
Is their a earth 1 or did it all start on earth 2?
The Golden Age came first but they were designated as Earth 2 when the publishers realized they can create an alternate realities.
Thanks im new at this and just trying to understand it all. At times it can be overwhelming.
"May have contributed to juvenile delinquency"? No, every claim of "Seduction Of The Innocent" the book by Fredric Wertham which began the anti-comics fervor, have been proven to be false and unfounded. It has no more validity than the current claim that videogames cause juvenile delinquency. The facts are that every generation has a percentage of kids who act out and a percentage of adults who think that it is unique to their generation and come up with ridiculous theories to justify it.
cool. good insight
I grew up with 70’s and 80’s commies. Still collected commies all the way up to about 2000.
Awesome. How do you organize your collection?
@@DCnez I don’t have it anymore but I did have all the age of apocalypse and the reboot afterwords. I got rid of all my stuff years ago because I got poor several times and had to restart.
The original green lantern story is so hilarious because it seems so racist for some reason
quite right
Do damage
Is Damage from the Golden Age?
You know i dont mind ads, but the pop up ads in the screen is really annoying, to the point im gonna stop watching your videos.
Its only on your videos.
Put regular ads in, but the pop up ads suck!
I understand, I'll see what I can do. However, the DC multiverse topic has a very niche market segment. Profits are not easy.
How are comics connected to juvenile delinquency i mean look at majority of the stereotypical audience💀
there was a time when comics was a major influence
Hawkman is cringe
