He's where both Matt Bellamy of Muse fame and Thom Yorke of Radiohead got their inspiration, so there's Buckley fans in some fairly high places in the music world.

There's a much older clip of Robert Plant talking about Buckley, probably form the 90's but I can't find it, so a newer one will have to suffice. Plant is one of my favorite artists, as is Jeff Buckley.

Clearly the intro reminded me of Nusrat Fateh Ali khan, the sufi singer from Pakistan. Jeff was clearly the best rock singer from all times, yes ALL TIMES. Each live performance, he put his guts on the table. So sad he died too young, he could have done such beautiful things.

The ones that we made - "Dream Brother," "So Real," "Last Goodbye" and "Eternal Life" - mean a lot to me because at the time that I wrote them, a long time ago, I was around an environment that thought that they were completely loser songs. It was rotting away. I put them on the album to prove at least to the songs that they weren't losers. They were worth recording. Sort of like finding kids that have been told all their lives that they're pieces of shit, and finally you have to go around proving to them, by putting them in a completely other setting, that no, they are worth knowing and loving. - Jeff Buckley

I had the good fortune to see Jeff Buckley in performance in London, in the spring of
1995. This was the opening song. It is a damn shame he never got the opportunity to
progess onto bigger and better things, but I am very grateful I had the chance to witness
such a gifted talent. He remains utterly unsurpassable.

Do we grasp the importance of creativity? In all it's malleable mediums. An individual or group passionate, creative process then transcends time and space to connect with the recipient. Becoming a part of their life. Our lives! Traveling some unseen conduit. Landing in our lap's like heart ache and hand grenade's. Art, music and ALL forms of creativity outdate religion, language and government. It's universally personal and the sinew that binds humanity.

This is high, high art. I am so tired of everyone devaluing musicians down to the likes of Justin Beaver and Taylor Shrift. No one has the remotest idea how much bravery it takes to do this. Leave your ego in flames on the stage. How rare it really is. Musicians like this have not reduced the music down to a mathematical equation or an algorithm of what will sell drinks or get likes. The technical aspect of the music has been meticulously created and written and rehearsed to the point where its no longer necessary. What is necessary is the absolute naked, in-the-moment truth of the performance. Its almost like a cathartic portrayal of what the lyrics depict. Ive been writing and playing music since I was 17 and the biggest challenge has always been to leave behind the desire to illicit the audience to "liking the music"; rather, just enter the song, embody it, let it flow thru you, and then let it live its own existence on stage. Move on to the next one. Its HARD. But for those who attempt it, I will always look to them as role models and my respects will be all for them. Jeff Buckley was one of few of a dying breed. As long as Im alive, i will carry the tradition forth. Regardless of whether Im seen as good or bad or shit or whatever.

The enormous gulf between the band and their audience of around 40 metres is just sad :/

I can't help but think that he may have ended up just 'another guy' in the music industry if he were to continue on in his music career; I mean look where promising bands of the 90's like RATM, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden ended up commercially (Keyword COMMERCIALLY).
But there's another side that thinks he may have been an exception: He certainly had all the accolades to do so but things changed after '01.
Stuff like that makes me cherish what we've left of Jeff Buckley.

why is that? Everyone deserves to be on this earth, however amazing or spectacular they may have been. I'm quite dissapointed that he passed away before I was even old enough to know who he was. His ability to just seem like he was just mucking around one minute and then turn into a beautiful melody both amazes and annoys me at how good he really was! I'm sure he would have loved to be treated as any old normal human would have not a god of some sort that people wern't worthy of even knowing of
