I grew up in 1950's and Christopher Columbus's birthday was a national holiday because he discovered America's. One of the more recent Presidents changed the date of the observance and I just saw California has removed the holiday from their,state. How awful!

YESSSSS‼️ My ex- father-in-law gave us the book in the 70s or 80s- we passed it onto our children and now I’m passing on to my grandchildren. I am so proud of my daughter who uses it in her college sociology classes (she is a professor) and I want it in my grandchildren’s hands as they are in public schools! 🤦♀️🇺🇸 Truth will win.

Ferdinand and Isabella were great leaders. Even their daughter Katharine of Aragon, as Queen of England, led an army, herself, to Scotland while King Henry VIII was fighting a war in France. I live about half a mile from Tickenhall Palace - I must have a walk over there and have a look at it sometime. It was here that Katharine of Aragon was betrothed to Prince Arthur and Princess Mary, (later Queen Mary I) lived for a while when she was a little girl. History is all around us. It is fascinating to think that the grand daughter of Ferdinand and Isabella lived only half a mile away from where I live!

I just started a new job at newspaper where all the coworkers are insanely blunt in their shallow political opinions and pointedly asking about political values while loudly declaring their superficially informed ones, all of which are talking points of communist infiltrators and left-wing globalists. I consider Galileo and DaVinci to be a more important figure than Columbus for their philisophical/intellectual abilities. That is not to say the accomplishment is not of real importance. Let us not forget that the US is named after Amerigo Vespucci who mapped the travels, Mateo Ricci who taught in royal court in China and a person by the name of Robert Grossateste who was the leading intellectual of his day and considered the first rextor of Oxford University.

Nobody learns about Columbus here in Canada, at least when I was in school. Vikings and Celts were the first seafarers to reach our east coast. Way before Columbus. Ultimately France took an interest and began colonising until the British turfed them out. Some of the research work that has been done in relation to Oak Island is informative. Pirates, fishermen, other nomads of the seas knew about this continent long before mainstream history textbooks will admit, and had reasons for keeping it under the governmental radars.
Don't enter that rabbit hole. There are too many theories. According to modern "historians", Vikings, Celts, Chinese, Polynesians and Africans have all been to the Americas before. All of these theories are purely political.
...and interestingly enough many vikings became Catholic.

A) his journeys hit the Caribbean island which are a part of North America, southern North America mainland, and northern South America mainland. If you're saying he didn't discover them, you'd be wrong, other people had found them for sure but they didn't uncover them for others like Columbus did.
B) he didn't know a virus would get them, they didn't have the knowledge to understand generic warfare at the time. The people that were killed were part of tribes that usually were cannibals or rapists or both. That and the human sacrifices were kind of looked down upon....
