It's amazing how crazy trucks have gotten! I'll be doing a video comparing this to my fully loaded 2009 Silverado 3500 to show how far trucks have come. I might even show the unbelievable difference to a 2002 Ram 2500. I don't want to spoil the video but you don't feel like the Silverado is completely outdated even with missing a massive amount of features but going back another generation to the 02 Ram it isn't even like they are similar vehicles!! Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
Nice truck. Just went from a 2002 F-150 to a new F-250 XLT. Similar but doesn't have all the bells and whistles. I like the upgraded 10 speed transmission. Supposedly the two tie downs on the tailgate also double as bottle openers 😎
That 10 speed is amazing! I put 19k miles on a 21 F-450 Platinum in 6 months mostly towing and it was always in the right gear. Unfortunately I didn't get to pull any long grades out west but it was wonderful both up and down some pretty steep mountains in the east. The XLT gives you most everything you'll ever need or want. Lots of the bells and whistles you'll never care about until you've lived with them. Driving my 09 Silverado on a long trip I sometimes think about 10 hours in it sure would be nice to have a massaging seat right about now! I'm sure you are loving the improvements that have been made in the last 20 years! I drove a 2001 Excursion for many years so I know how the interiors were compared to today. In some ways I miss the simple ways but overall the new trucks are a very nice place to be! Enjoy your truck and get out somewhere that you can enjoy the bottle opener!!! Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
I just bought a soda for lunch today and the bottle opener does work. I’d like to have had the adaptive cruise control & the lane centering feature. Mom always use to say “ you don’t miss what you don’t have”.
@craigwflys I miss the adaptive cruise control when I don't have it. It's amazing how much we come to depend on cameras. Lots of times when I'm driving a car without a backup camera I'll still glance at the center console before my mirrors! I will say I forgot how much of a pain it is to hook up a trailer by yourself without a camera! Glad to hear about the bottle opener. I'll have to put that in an upcoming video.
I connected to my trailer once and the black dotted line in the middle makes lining up easy. If you have a good spotter (which my wife isn't) then it's not too bad. Best of luck 👍
@craigwflys after I got rid of my 21 F-450 I bought a 09 Silverado 3500 in Montana. It was stock so no cameras. I drove to Utah and bought a trailer before going to Nevada to clean out a storage unit I had there. Picking up the trailer and the dealer was easy, they were great at spotting, but in Nevada I had to hook and unhook 4 or 5 times alone without a camera! It had been years since I did that because even going back to my Excursion I had an aftermarket camera in 03 or 04. I added one to my 06 Silverado less than a year after buying that new. Those cameras weren't great but they helped! I got my license in 99 but started hooking up trailers for my dad when I was like 14. It was always a pain to do it alone but I forgot how spoiled the camera makes us!
Thank you so much!! I'm trying to put out informative and enjoyable videos. I don't script anything I just sorta wing it which I hope comes off as just talking about cars and trucks. Thanks you, from one Marylander to another, very much for watching and commenting! I'm really going to try to get videos out a little more convenient! I hope you enjoy them!!
It's crazy what they are going for! I sold my 21 Platinum back to the dealer in the summer of 21 with 19k miles on it for $93ish. I was having problems with the DEF system otherwise I would have kept it. I'll get another F-450 sometime but for now I'm going to keep driving the 09 Silverado 3500 I bought right after selling my 21 450. It only had 46k miles on it and while I miss a lot of stuff about newer trucks not having to deal with the emissions systems is nice! Keep enjoying your truck!!!
Thank you!! Yes it is. Wait till you see what I'll have a video on soon!!! It's as different from a F-450 as possible while still being a new Ford truck!!!
Can't tell ya how many times now I've watched this video waiting on my '24 to be built, its a carbon copy of your truck except we got the carpet delete/vinyl and that Ford ditched the speakers in the headrest , which I have no prob with that but then jacked the price a grand...smdh. We will be using it to tow a 45' Momentum 410TH....it being our new home. Most folks don't seem to realize that the curves in the headlight design.....are the King Ranch symbol. I'd say the only thing I don't like about the truck cosmetically is the chrome mirror caps. Hope you have many years of enjoyment with it. Mine will be my first diesel and dually at that.
@AmJaxineer I'm glad you've enjoyed watching this truck! I guarantee you'll love having a dually and diesel. They tow so much better. It's so much more relaxing to tow with a DRW. I've been towing with dually since I was 16 and every time I end up towing with a SRW it does it fine but it's just not as easy. Then the power of the the Powerstroke combined with the 4.30 makes even huge trailers feel like nothing!!
How do you like the Projector led headlights on dark roads?? You should do a video. I'm about to order a 2024 F350 Tremor w/HO 6.7....cant decide on Lariat with led reflector lights or the platinum with projector led (and led taillights).
They are wonderful! I have a video on the led headlights in a 21 F-450 Platinum but I will get a video out on these headlights before too long. I think if you do a lot of long distance driving I want the best headlights I can have. I drive 60k to 80k miles a year and when I'm out for a night drive of 30 or so miles I always like having great headlights but don't miss them when I'm in one of my cars with terrible lights too much but when I'm on a long road trip especially when I've been driving for hours great headlights makes the drive so much better. I'll love to hear what you choose and I'll try to get a video out on these lights before too long.
Nice looking truck. So you’re back in a 450? You know I’m no Ford guy but I do like the looks of the 2023+ Super Duties as long as they have LED headlights. I also like that they finally did bumper steps. They truly are an awesome yet simple option. I also like the 2000 watt, 20 amp inverter. I’m hoping that GM follows suit here. Sure 7500 watts and 220 volt capability is nice but I feel like if you need that kind of power you’re bringing a generator. But this 2000 watt, 20 amp 110 volt outlet is perfect. That will allow any household 110 volt appliance to work.
Not really back in a 450. A friend bought it but doesn't have room to keep it right now so it's living with me. He orders 450s now and then, he ordered this and one in Limited spec. Even with the market getting back to close to normal the higher end F-450s are still and will most likely stay rare enough that you can drive them for 6 months to a year and get out of them for the same or a bit more than the price if you order one. I really like the on board power. It was a disappointment with the 21 that the F-150 had it but not the Super Duties. A couple weeks ago when my friend and I drove it to Charlotte, NC to pick up his Lamborghini we were talking about how great it would be to have an AC unit on the trailer powered by the truck. Not having to add a generator to the trailer would be great and you could kick it on 30 to 45 minutes before getting where you're going to be loaded or unloaded a car so that it's not unbelievably hot in the trailer! I also have had several times I've been somewhere and wanted to power something that the 400w setup in the truck just didn't work. They didn't change the styling too much but Ford sure knocked it out of the park with the headlights! The steps are so helpful too. I have a little kick down step om the rear driver's side on my Silverado and use it all the time. With the 450 being a decent amount higher it's a must for getting in and out of the bed! Overall it's a wonderful truck I just think for me at this time I'm going to continue to run my pre-DEF truck till it starts getting too expensive to maintain or has enough little issues that I don't trust it on long drives. Back in December I went to Colorado Springs and back helping some friends move. It was ridiculously cold and even with anti-gel and emergency anti-gel the fuel gelled up and screwed up my fuel filter. Hindsight I should have gotten a new one somewhere but I didn't want to change it in a parking lot when it was -40 wind chill and I just didn't think about finding a shop. Would I have had the same problem with this truck, I don't know. I know I can put a lift pump with a built-in heating element and won't have to worry about it. The other interesting thing is while I love how tight the 450 turns I have noticed that it's easier to eat and drive in the old truck. The steering in the 450 is so precise that slight movements of the steering wheel get transferred to the wheels a lot more than the old truck! I'll be doing a video on comparing the trucks coming up soon.
@@hitchedtohorsepower I gotcha. Well I look forward to the video. I bought a new inverter generator over this past winter. Harbor Freight Predator 3500 watt. It is exceptionally quiet and weighs about 100 pounds. I got it for racing so I don’t have to lug around my 260 pound 8,000 watt generator any more lol. But my new Predator would be great for what you’re mentioning. And it’s so quiet it’s almost unbelievable.
Some of the Harbor Freight stuff is wonderful! They have good quality tools and they have stuff that's good enough. I know it's going to break but it's cheap enough and last long enough that it makes sense. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to order a new trailer. The one I have is about 5 years old but has probably 250k miles on it if not more. My other trailer has less than 10k miles and pulls wonderful but it doesn't have an escape door or a winch. Adding a winch is easy but not an escape door. Also I think I'm going to get a gooseneck. Still just a 1 car with 22 or 24 feet of floor space but they just pull so nice. I'm going back and forth on whether I'll order it with an AC 🤔. I think I'll sell my newer one to pay off its loan, order the new one, then sell the older one when the new one comes in.
When did you order this and when do you take delivery? I ordered mid November right before the order banks closed, and I haven't gotten a VIN, so I updated the order to a 2024 now.
Ordered this truck October 27th, the day the order banks opened, and it was at the dealer the 13th or 14th of July. Ordered a Limited at the same time but no word on when that was going to be available.
Hopefully you'll hear something soon! I've heard that Ford is working on the lower trim levels first. A friend with some inside knowledge was really surprised the this Platinum came in already. It's surprising to me because I'm sure Ford makes a lot more on the Platinums and Limiteds over the XLs and XLTs 🤷♂️. You're going to love the wide track front axle. It makes so much difference in all types of driving. From turning through a parking lot to backing up a trailer that axle is amazing!! It does ride worse, especially when unloaded, mostly do to the steel belted tires but the other things about it make up for that. I'll have a video out soon comparing this to my 2009 Silverado 3500. I had a 21 F-450 Platinum from January to July 21 but mine had some annoying DEF issues so I took advantage of the crazy market and sold it back to the dealer for about $5000 more than I paid even with 19k miles. I found a low mileage Silverado in Montana. I planned on driving that for a year or two then go back to another new 450 but I'm just a little over 100k miles on it now so I'm going to stick with a pre emissions truck for a few more years. Driving this one has made me miss a few things even more but I'll have a video on my thoughts between the two coming up soon!!
@@hitchedtohorsepower Thanks for the info. I am currently in a '19 F450 XLT, at the time, the child was 2 1/2 years old, he's seven now and much more in control in the backseat, and I wanted the Platinum for the Massaging seats. I have a friend that works in Lexington plant, and as soon as I get the VIN# he can pull it and get it built in 5 days. I've got almost 73k on this 2019, and I pull heavy, curious on the 500hp how it reacts and fuel mileage variances.
Beautiful...this is the exact trim and paint my '24 is! It's my first diesel dually. I really wish I could ride around in one to just see how it rides and such. THX for the video!
I'll have to check to make sure but off the top of my head I think it's about 4700 or 4800 pounds. I believe if you get a lower trim level it will top 5k.
Depends on your exact definition of offroading. I took my 21 F-450 Platinum on the beach at North Carolina's Outer Banks. That beach driving isn't like Daytona Beach where just about anything can go out you need something with some decent 4x4 capabilities. The only issue I had was the steel belted tires don't balloon out when aired down like regular tires do. As far as the off-road heads-up display the wheel position display can be quite helpful in deep snow and even a little bit maneuvering a trailer in a really tight back-up. I was really happy and a little surprised how good my 21 did in the snow. I've used the tire turn degree indicator in my Grand Cherokee a good amount when getting through really deep snow. But no I don't think anyone will be rock crawling in a 450 lol
@hitchedtohorsepower a lot of the functions are great for sure. But I thought you meant like pitch and roll. I was.like, geez... where does this guy go with g rated 19.5s... and 100k truck.. lol.. and no,.if.someone is rock crawling a rig like that... I need to be friends with them.. hahah... glad your loving the new ride!!
Haha I completely agree! If my channel takes off enough that I can afford to cause some damage to a $100k truck I'll do some rock crawling videos with one 😁. I'm assuming it just makes sense for Ford to use the same stuff in this truck as they do in a F-250 Tremor or a Bronco 🤷♂️. Or the figure we need to give people all sorts of things so people think the trucks are worth this kind of money. If you see my channel hit 30k subscribers send me a message and I'll fly you to Moab or somewhere similar and we'll crawl one! IDK if I'll make it there to that many subs but I'm going to try! If you're down that's a promise!
I'm pretty sure you can. I took it to Florida to take a car down to a shop and left it down there for a week or two. When I get back to it I will make sure you can still put the transfer case into neutral.
Give the f350 dually the same turning radius as the f450. And sky blue paint. With everything included. No sunroof. They leak at some point. Hi-tech xcellent sound satellite internet. Dually rear end. 100 gallon gas tank in the bed.
I've been trying to find out if it's possible to order the 3.73 rear from the 350 in the 450. The difference the wide track front axle makes on turning is so incredible that once I drove it I knew if I was spending new truck money and putting up with newer truck emissions I wanted a 450! I have an older video about what I see as the pros and cons of 350 vs 450. Like I mentioned I would prefer the little better MPGs from the 350's rear end over the extra pulling power of the 4.30 rear. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy the 4.30 but not what I'd prefer if I could get even 1 extra towing mpg! I had 100 gallon aux tanks in my last couple trucks. Makes trips so much nicer. As so as I got my 21 F-450 I called TransferFlow about getting a 100 gallon tank but they didn't have the new electrical stuff worked out yet so I had to live with the 48 gallons. I will say it's much less stressful on trips with 48 gallons vs the 34 GM offers! When I got my 09 Silverado after selling my 21 450 summer of 21 I picked up the Silverado in Montana, bought a trailer in Utah, and went to Nevada to get some stuff out of storage. The trip home was miserable stopping so often for fuel! I was going to put the 100 gallon in but choose to go with a 62 gallon replacement tank underneath. I wasn't using this truck as just a tow vehicle and didn't want to give up the bed space. I miss the extra fuel on trips but when you have at least the high 40s gallons it's not too bad. BTW my Silverado sunroof leaks 😭
@@hitchedtohorsepower F450 is only available with the 4.30 final drive. If you want a 3.73 final drive in a 450 you are either going to have to re-gear or throw a set of 37" tires on it.
@rich7447 thanks, I figured as much was just hoping. I love the pulling power of the 4.30 but don't really need it. Would rather have a little extra mpg!!!!
Yeah I just love the wide track front axle. For right now I'm actually going to keep driving my 09 Silverado 3500 DRW. I had a 21 F-450 Platinum that I bought in January of 21. It had an oil leak about 2000 miles in which Ford fixed but it kept having a DEF issue. It would say DEF fault in 50 miles I'd be limited to 50 mph. After a mile or two it would rest itself. I'm sure it would have gotten fixed eventually but I had it in several times without it being fixed. So between me being even more worried about the stupid emissions system than I was when it worked normally and the insane car market I sold it back to the dealer for about $5000 more than I had in it after 6 months and almost 19k miles. I found a 09 Silverado in Montana with 47k miles and not a spec of rust. I bought that with the intention of driving it for a year or so until the market cooled off a bit but I've really started to like driving the truck without any of the DEF crap. I have about 115k miles on it and as of now plan to drive it till I'm not comfortable that it's reliable enough to make cross country towing trips without worrying about it. At that point I'll see what's out there. This truck belongs to a friend of mine. I've taken it on a few trips with it. While there's definitely some things I love about the new trucks overall those LBZ/LMM duramaxs are wonderful towing machines!!!
I can't disagree! I got rid of my 21 F-450 Platinum that was $90ish mostly because of a DEF issue and that I made money on it because of the insane car market but I'm very happy with my 09 Silverado 3500 that I bought in summer of 21 with 46k miles for $47k. When I bought it I was thinking I'd drive it for a year or so then get another new truck but after two years I'm so happy with that truck and these trucks have gotten so expensive, combined with our money being worth so much less, I decided to just drive it till it's not reliable enough to make cross country trips without worrying about it. It's crazy that the average new car price is nearly $50,000! I do miss having cooled seats and a heated steering wheel 😕
@@hitchedtohorsepower I just purchased four pristine acres with mountain 🏔️ views and a waterfall In beautiful NH for $75K to build my retirement log cabin dream home on . I’ll take four acres any day over a heated steering wheel and seats ! I’ll be in my jacuzzi looking at the view for $25K less than a silly truck ! 😂
True, but trucks make me the money to help me afford my 3.5 acres! Unfortunately I currently don't have any mountains in my view 🤣. I grew up in Nevada looking at the Sierras out my windows! Hopefully one day I have a view like that again. It would be nice if you could get a good tow vehicle new for much closer to the average new car price of a little over $50k. In this insane world I paid almost that much for my 2009 Silverado 3500 in 2021! I always said I wouldn't spend $100k on a pickup, I'd buy something like a Freightliner M2 Sportchassis but now a new one of those is closer to $180 😬 and you don't get as good as mpg and a few other downsides even though they are very comfortable to lots of towing miles behind you! Your property sounds amazing, I hope you have many years of soaking in your jacuzzi!!

@@hitchedtohorsepower i ordered my 2023 F450 Limited on Oct 28th and been waiting to hear from Ford. I currently drive 2020 F350 DRW 6.7 Lariat
Cutious what the payload rating is
I'll have to check to make sure but off the top of my head I think it's about 4700 or 4800 pounds. I believe if you get a lower trim level it will top 5k.
OFFROADING IN A LARIAT ULTIMATE F450?? Please tell me more about your offroading in this vehicle?
Can you flat tow this? In the advanced settings in a 2022 you can on a F250.
@@hitchedtohorsepower You can get different ratios in the F350 DRW. The F450 pickup is still a class 3 anyway. Really it is just a F350 max tow.
I honestly dream of having a car so big it requires a commercial drivers license in other countries 😂❤
God Bless America!!!!! Although with it's towing capacity you could haul a trailer that's heavy enough to require a Class A CDL!
Does the F 450 have a speed limiter on it?
Yes I think it's set a little under 90. I've heard it has to do with the rating of the 19.5" tires.
@@hitchedtohorsepower thanks
I Have One on Order,
Hopefully it won't take too long. I'm sure you'll love it when it comes in!!
Is the truck nice ? Yes 👍. Is it $107K Nice ? Hell No! Lol 😂
Same problems
Wow way to copy off of Gm
The side steps? Yeah they all copy each other but Ford didn't even try to hide that they stole those!
