Thanks for the review - I’ve been on the fence about picking it up. Now, I’m moving it up my list. I’m usually put off by religious themed SF, but it sounds like a good read.
It helps that the book doesn't take it for granted that God is real. It's really about the character's struggle with the belief.

I read it recently and ngl it feels a bit dated, with the recent popularity of more grimdark scifi my first reaction was immediately that these xenos were bad news
What they do to the priest, his hands ect.. oof. It doesn't seem like many ppl get a big point, a priest is made to question his faith and has to struggle with destroying billions of other faithfuls beliefs.
