Bismuth Crystals In The Making!

  • If you're interested in buying bismuth crystals from me, check out my Etsy shop:
    www.etsy.com/se-en/listing/46...
    Here's a short demonstration video of how I grow bismuth crystals. I used about 7-8 pounds of raw 99.99" bismuth in this session.
    By allowing the molten metal cool slowly, it wil form these amazing hopper crystals. As the air contacts the surface of the crystals. It oxidizes and creates these beautiful shiny colors.
    Hope you guys like it!

    Idea, Place on top of Tesla coil with a higher hertz frequency then 7.83 hertz and see what other crystal shape's you can grow and what affect's the bismuth will have from the Schumann resonance of 7.83 hertz passing through the new crystal structure's from the old crystal structure's of the Schumann resonance causing the crystal structure's to take that shape you showed in your video? 😊

    Those came out good. I assume that two of the most important aspects of this are 1. Very pure bismuth, and 2. Reducing the cool down time(preventing it from solidifying too quickly)?
    What source of bismuth do you use, and do they consistently sell very pure metal? I was just looking online, and there was an eastern European seller who was selling 5lbs of allegedly 99.99% pure Bi for $3 less than Rotometals and others, but when I read the reviews, one guy was saying that he had to scoop off so much dross from the melt that he would've been surprised if it was actually only 70% pure!

    do these keep their color or over time do they dull with air? if so how to you retain the colors?

    • @bdf2718
      @bdf2718 7 років тому

      The colour comes from interference patterns generated by the thin oxide layer on the surface. That layer forms when the bismuth is solid but still hot (the temperature determines the thickness and hence the colour).
      Hydrochloric acid will remove the oxide layer almost instantly. I suspect even vinegar might do it.
      Otherwise the oxide layer ought to be stable. It forms at a high temperature and the layer itself prevents further oxidation at ordinary temperatures.

      Survivalxpert You will find the best price from allibaba, but you will have to shop around as they prefer to sell by the ton or thousand tonnes! You will find people who are willing to sell it by the kilo, but the price goes up. only people who want incredibly small amounts or those who are stupid buy from eBay. The prices are silly on eBay, far to much greed involved.

    All but one of the "make bismuth crystal" videos I've seen use the pouring technique. Details of heating and the use of insulation vary, but they all pour out most of the bismuth and get hit-and-miss results (mostly miss).
    Tom Leary uses a different technique that seems to work a *lot* better. Do a youtube search on _My World Of Bismuth_ to see some stunning results and how he gets them.
    I'm not knocking IAA015, but he/she/it could do a lot better.
