ivan moreno tell me about it, at first all seemed lost, then this scene happened and you get the feeling that everything truly is going to be okay. Man, what a scene.
The moment in the series that redeemed Hohenheim's character for me. When I first watched the series I wasn't a huge fan of him, but this scene right here shows why he had to leave before the series began. It doesn't necessarily excuse the whole sudden departure from his son's lives for a decade without saying goodbye, but at the very least it showed he had a legitimate and necessary reason for going.
You have to remember though that Hohenheim is an ancient person. At almost half a millennium old it's remarkable he still functions. The human psyche isn't designed to endure so many years. It's a surprise he hasn't gone insane after that length of time. I think we can forgive the way he treated his family.
+Mandragara Normally it wouldn't, but Hohenheim had an immortal body, and he spent those 400 years actually conversing with each and every soul inside him, which he admitted nearly drove him insane. It was likely that their desire to defeat Father was what allowed Hohenheim to endure all those years, and then he met Trisha, who made him feel truly alive once more.
When he drops that he's using the eclipse's shadow as the transmutation circle I absolutely lost it, such a smart choice by the writer honestly. The author was crazy good at understanding how her world worked.
That's what makes FMA the greatest. The world isn't used to tell the story, she just told the story within her own world. So many mangas use the "mechanics" of the world they've built to just do asspulls when they write themselves into a corner. This is one of, if not the most carefully constructed manga stories of all time. No stone is left unturned.
When this was said I realized she thought of this exact moment before she started writing the show. It’s an absolute beautiful climax and I think the best I’ve seen in any anime
Although there is no definitive proof, people are fairly positive that this isn't the originally planned ending to the manga/anime. And that the orginal one was more akin to FMA's 2003 anime ending
@@Blades500 I don't know this "people" is but this is the first I've heard of it and in order for you to be right, the decision would have had to have been made _very_ early on given how much setup is there is for this ending.
It really makes sense why only Hohenheim could do this, and why he had to leave home to do it. When he discovered the nationwide transmutation circle, he knew that once it was active, every living soul not in the center would die as their souls would be ripped out of their bodies. But to reverse it, some souls had to act in order to activate the reversal process, so what better than to use the souls that Hohenheim managed to individualize. Father wouldn't be able to take those souls because they aren't inside any bodies, and thus cannot be pulled out. And it took him so long, because Hohenheim had to calculate EXACTLY where to place each pinpoint that would coincide with the Umbra. Do you know how tough that it? And Van didn't have advanced technology to help him. No, he used purely his own intellect. Not even the most brilliant scientists could have done that with just their intellect alone. Hohenheim's 400 year of acquiring knowledge came in useful. So its mostly because of Hohenheim and his friends that resided in him that are the real heroes, as otherwise, they would have lost.

Every discussion about why father lost always goes to a philosophical meaning that he could not logically absorb god. But in fact to me it was simpler as: because Hohenheim set a trap spell on father's circle. Thats all. No philosophy, no "strong god / weak vessel". Just pure counterforce.

This moment is so perfect. From the dichotomy between Father (manipulation of others) and Hoenheim (co-operation and teamwork with the souls inside himself), to the silence until the baby starts crying, leading into the last OP playing overtop the scene. It's actually a masterpiece.
Imagine if the souls coming out from fathers body didn’t know where to go and just landed in the closest dead body they could find. That would be one freaky Friday.
ComradeSlice When all those souls got ripped out of Father's body he lost about 99% of his godly powers. There were still his usual things he could do, like the "You can't transmute" move, the stupid barrier, and of course, energy attacks. He just couldn't create the Sun in his hand anymore (let alone contain the damned thing), because that requires a good portion of his godly powers. With 99% of it gone, he no longer had sufficient energy to duplicate that feat, and was consequently forced into defense mode.

if you want a story where the man is more terrifying than the monsters he fights, read berserk, this isn't that kind of story.
jfc the ending shot of the soul re-entering the baby, angled up so we can’t see inside the pram, the suspenseful pause, then the cry to close out the episode and show hope is restored… and I completely forgot it existed because the show offers thousands of brilliant visual ideas. This show is truly just… too good
0:48 When November ends
cgi in this anime aged surprisingly well compared to some ore recent ones.
We all think he was a bad father when in reality he was planning this all along.
I'm not gonna lie, but father looked good in that body form 👌🏼👌🏼
Christelle Raymond GAYYYYYY
Might be a female
Every discussion about why father lost always goes to a philosophical meaning that he could not logically absorb god.
But in fact to me it was simpler as: because Hohenheim set a trap spell on father's circle. Thats all. No philosophy, no "strong god / weak vessel". Just pure counterforce.
George bush did the promised day
Mc Woofless George W. Bush*
APlatinumOrange King Bradley did the Promised Day, guys, I mean look at the facts- Amestrian steel can't cut through Briggs artillery shells.
Poor Hoenheim. Just how many people he has seen dead by these monstrosities during his lifetime.😢
"We're starting now Hoenheim". The most bad ass philosopher stone in the universe.
Demm i must say hohenheim was yelling to father like he was a angry brat or something.
He was angry at him.
Could you imagine if the souls all went in the wrong body like that one scene in the Scooby doo movies back in 2002. It’s a very unsettling thought.
How in the.... So basically he got caught with like, 1.5 mill in soul and had to return it, pfft, hacker get what ya deserve
XoDos INgaming I thought it was 50 million
50 million.
All the brain damage from lack of breathing ....
EndGameLooter 9715 they were still alive but empty.
@@JoseAlvarado-yy3qe just like my soul now that i finished this anime for the 3rd time
0:20 - when I finally caught my Gigantamax Alcremie after five failed Raids.
_(for context, the Pokemon Alcremie is supposed to be a homunculus made of cake frosting. Hell, the word "Alchemy" is even part of its name!)_
This moment is so perfect. From the dichotomy between Father (manipulation of others) and Hoenheim (co-operation and teamwork with the souls inside himself), to the silence until the baby starts crying, leading into the last OP playing overtop the scene. It's actually a masterpiece.
*Father:* "Checkmate!"
*Hohenheim:* "Uno Reverse Card!"
*Father:* _(surprised Pikachu face)_
Imagine if the souls coming out from fathers body didn’t know where to go and just landed in the closest dead body they could find. That would be one freaky Friday.
Kh1ght
Souls are connected with their bodies
The title says this is when his godly powers were removed but this is only the removal of the Amestrian souls.
With 99% of it gone, he no longer had sufficient energy to duplicate that feat, and was consequently forced into defense mode.
the guy who made this is a fuckin genius
woman
well shes a fuckin genius then
This resembles the Third Impact a lot, during the time Komm Susser Todd was playing, anyone that saw EOE movie knows what I’m talking about.
Poor father after getting a power up he lost to plot armor within minutes of the next episode 🤣🤣🤣
So close to victory... he tripped over the finish line.
0:05 it makes me shutter hearing her say hohenheim
Studder is what you should to using, Shutter is the person that "shut" the other up.
+Frederick Oh shit it was autocorrect lmao
+Frederick Also I meant shudder
L Lawliet Ah well, "Dammit, Auto-Corrected!"
shouldn't it be pronounced as hoen-haym
I lost it when Rain started playing
IT'S TIME TO REMEMBER YOUR PLACE, LITTLE ONE INSIDE THE FLASK
Damn, my nerves went crazy after hearing the music play after the baby cried.
I wish you could have finished the scene. When the 5th theme song plays, is the best part of the show
Huh.... didn't think i'd ever see a soulnado outside of mortal kombat but here I am
"We're starting now, Hohenheim!"
Stop right there dwarf in the flask you activated my trap card
