Just considering kayaking, This video was very helpful and covered items I had questions about but other videos did not answer. Winter storage, seat comfort, usable space and so on. Thanks for making it.
Glad it was helpful and thanks for the feedback!
That thing is awesome! We don't have a kayak, but planning to do some kayaking for the first time this year on the New River here in VA. Nice video y'all 🤙
Wish we had started long ago. It’s so nice being out on the water. 😀
@@ExploreTrekAdventure yep this is our year!
Thank you for your videos ! It really helps watching this kind of feedback, choosing the right kayak is so hard ;-) I will see if the 473rl is available over here in France but it looks like a perfect match for me and my son's need for adventure.
Glad it was helpful. 😀
5:40 Yeah, this is the reason I gave up on 473rl. Low seat makes my butt hurt too, and I can't put a higher seat, because this will make 473rl even less stable. Great kayak for performance paddlers though. Very fast. And has plenty of space inside. But if you are looking for recreational type kayak, better get fast track 383ft.
The Fast Track sounds like a nice stable boat. Last season we saw one go by and the guy was standing up paddling like it was a SUP. 😂
I feel that I hit the sweet spot with the 465FT. Plenty of room for two for the day. LOTS of payload for solo camping. Room for a sail or motor. They say it takes three but not comfortably in my experience, 795lb rating but over 500 it gets burdened.
just got mine and took it down to tualatin river and got stuck on the rocks 3 times.!!!! wondering if you guys have tried it without the skeg and how does it perform?
We have tried it a few times and the boat turns super easy. I think they make a lower profile skeg which might give you more clearance while keeping you pointed forward.
Notice y'all have different foot pedals to the ones that come with the boat. Do you find they perform better or are more comfortable? Thanks for the video! We've had this kayaking for half a year and love it too. You can fit a kid on lap upfront and a dog in middle, we've done thing :)
Sea Eagle changed the type of food pedal right when we had purchased the boat. We really like them when in use but can be a pain to setup when the boat material is cold.
i want one. im new to all this. is it weird or even possible to face the seats toward each other for more casual trips?
The razorlite is really meant for speed over stability. You may look at the fasttrack models. I think you could turn the seat around but the attachment points aren’t designed for it.
How did you store this kayak in winter time? I just received mine and plan to store it covered but without heat outside in NY area. Also there is a strong plastic smell when I stored it inside our house. Not sure if the smell will go away with time.
The smell does go away after airing it out. We store ours in the garage over winter but make sure it is safe from rodents. Also make sure the boat is very dry when you put it away. When you bring it back out a magic eraser & water cleans it up really nice.
I'm curious how this boat would handle once water splashes in. I tend to kayak in more open water, so this is a concern. I notice very little freeboard on the sides of this boat. Do you keep a bilge pump on board?
I am guessing that because it is inflatable, on-board water is perhaps less of a handling issue than a hard shell, but maybe I am wrong. I am guessing that water can only fill up to a certain level after which additional water would simply spill out. I would love for someone who has used this boat on open water to relay their experience.
I was never interested in inflatable kayaks until the advent of drop stitch construction, but I find this technology very intriguing.
We haven’t had a situation where we had a bunch of water enter the boat. We do not carry a bilge. When we did a test flip of the boat it didn’t fill up much as it was at the surface when we rolled it back over if that makes sense. We were in the same boat with inflatables until drop-stitch came along. It is a real game changer.
I believe it is self-bailing
for open water, you will be better off with the sea eagle explorer. The Explorer is self-bailing.
Is this good with 1 adult & 2 younger kids? Is this firm like a paddleboard and puncture resistant?
It is firm like a paddle board. We’ve had good luck with durability so far. The Razorlite is built for speed and can be a little tippy, you may want to check out the Fasttrack. That being said we have paddled with a seven and a ten year old and did okay.
Hey… I recently purchased this model, hasn’t received it yet… but my question is; can you fish in these ? Thank you.
I suppose you could as long as you were careful with your gear (sharp edges).
Sea Eagle has several other models more fish-focused
So how does the SUP as a kayak compare? Probably 10% of the cost seems too do okay in the video.
The SUP does great if that is what you are looking for. If you want to sit down and stay mostly dry the kayak is a better choice.
Nice boats, but be cautious buying from Recreation Outfitters... their operators are offshore and while polite will say one thing and you get another. We had long delay in delivery when we were assured otherwise. We received 2 boats and only one skeg have had promises but no follow up in weeks.
Good to know. We ordered directly from SeaEagle and have had a good experience so far. Hope they get the skeg figured out for you.
Next time just take a soft measuring tape and showing the interior dimensions. 😅
csn you go solo in this if you want?
You can attach the seat towards the middle and paddle by yourself if you wanted. Moving the kayak around on land by yourself could be challenging without a cart.
It actually looks a bit tippy and almost like a canoe.
it feels tippy bc it is so narrow , but it is also fast and sleek.
Yes it does look like a canoe with shorter sides and can be tippy at times. After a few sessions out in the boat it seems very stable to us now.
If you are in an area that has alligators... Do NOT put small pets in your boat! Gators are known to attack small vessels in order to feed on pets. Be safe y'all.
