I'm now of the opinion Hunter should not be allowed to throw two fastballs in a row (unless he can hit 97+ climbing up/out of the zone). First batter of the game, after that first fastball for a called strike, I said, "You better follow it with a breaking ball." And his fastball was hit out. 6th inning Caratini called for a fastball middle outside edge and it was hit out. Hunter's fastball doesn't fool anyone if it is middle anything. It's just a meatball unless he hits the edges with it or goes up a bit rising out of the zone. Caratini has got to call a better game. We're seeing both catchers not able to call nearly as good a game as Maldy did and it's costing them games. Certainly Caratini made up for the first HR the Twin's got by hitting one of his own. Good on him, but neither catcher is calling Hunter Brown's pitches (fastball) right. Too many of Hunter's fastballs in the mid-90s are just BP meatballs. He's carrying an ERA over 6.00. At this point in the season, the manager needs to step in and change how the catcher's are calling his game. Otherwise, harm is being done to his career. He's a better pitcher than this. He's giving up more than a whole run more per 9 this year than in 2023, and more than double what he gave up in the playoffs last year. And should've left Brian Abreu in for another inning instead of Pressly for the 8th. He gave their opponent the lead ... again. But in my opinion, this is another series lost because the catcher's aren't calling games right, especially for Hunter Brown. Major league hitters are really good. So if this continues, we'll just see more dingers against our pitchers and more losses.
To elaborate further, Hunter is tied for 3rd highest no. of HRs given up (11), and in only 55 innings pitched. That's a pretty high HR rate. Hitters are murdering his fastball because it is not being used right.
Why the hell are we still using Pressly like a leverage arm!? Clearly he should never be in during a close game UNTIL he can prove he can get 3 outs with no runs again!
Pressley is a current joke and should no longer be put out there in close games (that's been the case for awhile now). He's like the Montero of last year. The fact that we gave up Neris and Stanek is just dumb. Hopefully some of management gets fired before next season, including the GM and Bagwell for signing Abreu (smh).
