HI! I would Really appreciate some help, I've been racking my brain about this all day. I've been using 3 sjcam4000's for like 3 years now mounted on a Samson MK-10 boom mic using their frame mount + a 1/4 male to female thread - And they still work fine (though I don't know if one is a fake or not, but it still works lol) BUT, one of my cameras gave out on me the other day.. I've narrowed it down to: GoPro Hero 5 Black refurbished = $220 each ($170 after $50 trade in for my sjcam4000) Yi-4K (not 4K+) = $150 from their website...but no trade in offered. These will be for UA-cam drum videos, SO... 1. I don't really need stabilization (unless it will help with #6) 2. I don't really need 4k either actually.. 3. I'll be shooting in 1080p 30fps, MAYBE 60fps (if I feel like it would look cool) 4. The cameras will be on a Samson MK-10 boom stand using their frame mounts + GoPro Tripod adaptor. 5. I don't need the audio to be great (I get my audio edited) 6. I've noticed my bass drum does cause the video to shake with my Canon G7X (1st one, not mark 2), but that could just be because it's heavy while sitting on my boom stand. 7. BUT they will be in low light. I use 2 neewer 176 LED lights, black background, no other lights on. Thoughts? 🤔🤔 Thanks in advance! 😊
I almost bought 4K but luckily saw 4K+ a month a go and imediatelly pre-ordered it. Also lovely move from YI to choose that it uses all the ad-on`s from older model, so you don`t have to spend more money as you would with other companies. Sometimes beeing an nongready company you actually boost sales with such moves!
I bought a Yi 2 4K action cam couple months ago and I love it. It only cost $200 so it's very affordable. I wish I know this new model before I made the purchase.

I am comparing the Garmin Virb Ultra 30 and the YI 4K+ since the Garmin had the ability to connect a bluetooth mic, the voice recognition is fantastic and the water proof case is touchscreen and the quality of the video is great. The price of the Garmin is higher so I am wondering if the YI 4K+ will have these options soon. And honestly speaking, which will you recommend to somebody like me that is not too much into the best video quality? I would appreciate your comments and thanks a lot again for the review.
Yi has just responded to my latest support ticket informing me that it will now be a 3rd month until we see Live Streaming which they boasted as a feature of the Yi 4k plus. this is the second full month delay. I don't think owners are going to see this feature anytime soon.

Q1) 60fps will be better appreciated if you shoot sports and you try to slow it down. better picture on 60fps Q2)as of the last time I asked they did not confirm that it will or not. Q3)EIS is in both models but does not work on all modes Q4)right now they are marketing it at the Hero 5 market and waterproofing package is the only one they offer Q5)that option has been around for a while, just setup auto backup and Google photos will do that for you. Q6) I would say if you are looking indoor use, Go with the 4K model not the + as it is still a great camera and better value for you need. but if you see yourself using outside, the case and 60fps would last you longer. If you're looking into the Yi+, I would look into the Sony as well. I did a comparison vid on my channel in case you're interested :thumbsup: (they're about the same in price, Sony is $10 more expensive last I check)
Do you feel difference between yi 4k and 4k+ after month? i think which i should buy: yi 4k+(price and i hope quality) or sony x3000 (boss system, dynamic range etc)?
After a month of use, I have to say that the 4K+ is still the best for me, it still has a lot more options to work with and the features keep getting better. EIS at 4k 30fps and voice control soon. for the price it's a great deal
Thanks for posting this. I am hesitant to upgrade from my Yi 4k, based on the Amazon reviews so far. IMHO, one of the features that many seem to pass over for this product are the high bitrates. That is, you can shoot 60 fps NOW on the Yi 4K. But the approximate doubling of the bitrate does a LOT for the quality of the 4K+, even at 1080p!
Don't hesitate! Just buy it... I've seen some of the Amazon reviews and they're user error... not using correct memory and playing 4k using a computer that's not built to play 4k videos... duh! So far Im pretty happy with my yi4k+ I can tell the difference between my old yi4k. GO FOR IT DUDE!

Considering price its much better option. But again major turn off for yi 4k+ is it requires waterproof case as compared to gopro hero 5. Waterproof case will hv limitations on recording sound and touch screen. I was really hoping yi 4k+ to have inbuilt waterproofing but alas.

Great video and such an impressive little camera. Just got mine and also posted an unboxing with some 4K 60fps test footage slowed down to 30fps. Beats the Hero 5 hands down :)
The wide angle fish eye 4k/60fps, was there an update that fixed that?? Because for over 300$ that is HORRIBLE. The distortion is telling me to save my money and just get a cheap 4k/30fps camera instead... 😥
I recently got the YI 4k plus. Everything works fine, the sd card, the settings the photo's the raw files, etc. But when I take a video in ''any setting'' 4k at 60 fps or Hd in 120 fps, and when I look back at them on my computer, the video looks great in like 1/3 of the screen but when in full screen it looks like its captured in 720p. What's the problem that this might can cause?
It does, but so far I can only tell that you have to use the YI app to stream live. Don't think u can stream live through periscope or youtube or anything else yet.
I would see no reason for it to not be in carry on luggage as long as you get a case for it. the battery is physically smaller to what our smartphones have now a days. so no issue for travel
Check Air New Zealand as an example or American Airlines overseas, only one battery per person allowed and then many airlines also only up to a certain size / capacity. Phantom 4 battery only one and that is the maximum size,
After updating my 4K+ to firmware 1.1.26 I noticed a "plopping" sound from the speaker every time I turn off the camera. Can you confirm this? When I downgrade to 1.0.18 the noise is gone.
While at 4K 30fps (YI 4K Plus) with Gyro on Hand Held, when I tested it running for a short distance the camera makes a clicking or like something is shaking inside. I noticed it when I replayed the video that I recorded.

I have a Samsung Micro SDXC Class 10 UHS3. It's not on the recommended list, but it meets the requirements, exceeds them even, so I'm hoping it will work. When I ordered the camera and sd card I didn't know there was a recommended list on the back of the box :( This Samsung card is supposed to have 100mbs write time though. On amazon It's called "Samsung 128GB 100MB/s (U3) MicroSDXC EVO Select Memory Card with Adapter (MB-ME128GA/AM)" Anyone know if it will work?

Maybe you can try selling it and purchase the new one for a little extra?
External audio and video is possible with the Yi 4K! Newer firmwares have added it over MicroUSB.

You can install some sneaky scripts if high bitrates are your thing,it will go up to about 100 mbps before bad things start to happen.
I know. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get it to work on my Yi 4K. That would easily tide me over!

I have not use that brand, but it would be nice to able to use. Wonder how it rejects the water and registers. Our finger instead.

that's great, I really like it how the Yi 4k+ is the underdog but in reality its way better.
Wonder if there is just a DIY waterproofing a case and adding a wind barrier while you are at the insides the yi 4k plus lol

yes the Screen turns off and locks after 15 sec to conserve battery

I have a Samsung Micro SDXC Class 10 UHS3. It's not on the recommended list, but it meets the requirements, exceeds them even, so I'm hoping it will work. When I ordered the camera and sd card I didn't know there was a recommended list on the back of the box :( This Samsung card is supposed to have 100mbs write time though. On amazon It's called "Samsung 128GB 100MB/s (U3) MicroSDXC EVO Select Memory Card with Adapter (MB-ME128GA/AM)"
