Lorain police bodycam video shows suspect stabbing K-9, then fatally shot by officer

New body camera released on Wednesday show the moments from an incident last month in which a suspect stabbed a Lorain police K-9 before being fatally shot by an officer.
Charles White was shot five times and ended up dying from his injuries. The 48 year old had an active warrant from the U.S. Marshal's Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. White was also designated as a "safety alert."
This means when officers went to serve White a warrant for felonious assault on July 30, they were alerted that he had choked and punched other officers in the past during one of his 15 stays in Lorain's jail.
The warrant being served had to do with the attack of a neighbor several weeks earlier where they say White stabbed her in the shoulder.
"Officers had told White to surrender or make himself known 18 times," Lorain Police Chief Jim McCann said during a briefing on Wednesday.

Officers tell you beforehand that they have a K9 and to come out before they come to bite you. It’s a natural instinct but most people wouldn’t do the dumb shit he did.

It varies by state. Some states allow police to use deadly force on a suspect that is using deadly force on a dog and some don't. In this case, if it's not legal to use deadly force on the suspect while he is attempting to kill the k9, it will be argued that it is a justifiable shoot once the suspect made a stabbing motion towards the officer which is when the officer shot and the officer didn't shoot while the suspect was stabbing the dog. There are vastly large conflictions when it comes to deciding whether or not a k9 is an officer or property in the eyes of the law. In all states, police departments recognize the k9 as an individual officer but the laws that govern those departments see the k9 as a tool and is property owned by the governing body which is the reason you can't use deadly force to protect a k9 because our laws value life over property. The irony is that the property I am referring to (the k9) is also life. These laws should change in my opinion, and the should recognize police k9's as individual officers and offer them the same rights as their two legged counterparts

Not sure why K9s are still used in apprehending someone. No human on earth is going remain complainant as their arm is getting ripped off by dog.
The guy should have surrendered but that department purposely put the dog in danger to use deadly force
