A wonderful interview of an MP clearly very widely respected. A gentleman. How utterly disgusting that some gutless cruel person took his life. An attack on an MP is an attack on us all as it strikes at the heart of our democracy. RIP Sir. 🙏😢
Lovely interview. What a tragedy and waste that we have a lost a true public servant . It’s clear from listening to him and all who spoke about him since his passing, that he was only in it for the people, not his personal gain. Sadly lacking in many politicians these days.
I can relate to Ian with his upbringing as I'm from hainult near the affluent chigwwell as in the comedy series birds of a feather. My upbringing was brought up in flats, I had a great upbringing washing cars for 50p doing a news paper round starting at 6.30. Exploring the source of the river roading . Going to hainult forest Buckhurst hill, going to chigwell and camping in Epping forest
While acknowledging violent death is a matter of regret, let's not join in the hypocrisies expressed by politicians. David Amess certainly wasn’t the saint the BBC is making him out to be. Don't forget he voted for every one of David Cameron’s austerity measures during 2010 to 2014. A major study conducted by the University of York, under Professor Karl Claxton of the Centre for Health Economics, concluded those austerity measures were linked to the deaths of 57,550 of the poorest people among us. Amess was kind to animals. Pity he couldn’t show the same empathy towards human beings.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the BBC are merely being respectful because he was just brutally murdered. Most people are probably just waiting until his body is cold before they start dragging his name through the dirt.
Sorry, that’s utter nonsense. Your explanation is totally devoid of any context and makes numerous assumptions. Following the global financial crisis of 2007/8, there was a clear and urgent need to fix the economy in order to constrain or mitigate the damage caused. The Conservatives argued that the country was badly exposed to the crisis, in part due to unsustainable and irresponsible public spending. As a result, they suggested cutting public spending immediately and investing in business to boost enterprise and create jobs. This is not an unreasonable position. In fact, Labour also acknowledged that spending would have to be tighter, though they disagreed as to when cuts should be made. Whether you agree or disagree with David Amess on the management of public finances has no bearing on his character. There are many factors at play and it is, quite frankly, preposterous to attribute the deaths of 57,550 people to him. He was an honest, decent, and principled public servant - as his family, friends, colleagues, and constituents will tell you - and that is how he will be remembered.

@Redstar Dwight You don't get it friend. You just don't at all!. For ten years I have knocked on doors for politicians and sometimes it's a scary experience. I know people in this "game" and how hard they work. I know their staff who have to deal with death threats...constantly. Social media bile, constantly. You don't know at all!
@Redstar Dwight You don't get it at all. I have spent ten years knocking on doors for politicians in Ireland and the UK and I know how more challenging it has become. I know their staff who deal with online death threats, constantly. I know the level of social media bile they get constantly and how it affects them. Attention! Attention you say! You know nothing of which you speak of. Nothing.
Watching this after the terrible news of his death. RIP Sir David.
