Now, no denying that many pensioners are comfortably off. They have good private pensions and enjoyed well paid jobs. Those, it is true, do not need the state pension. BUT, pensioners living on their own, receiving the basic state pension, and only this, for survival, need the extra fuel allowance to help with the increasing heating costs. @tadgray9114 The government makes the rules, if you've paid in , your entitled to a pension Inc any perks. Just because someone is astute enough to put a bit more away for retirement, is their business and no one else's. The amount in savings by not paying richer pensioners is infertesimal. Pensioners aren’t getting freebies, they’ve paid all their working lives into the system, but it would seem she’s ok with immigrants and illegals who are coming over in droves, who’ve never paid a penny into the system who are getting freebies. Politicians have now changed regulations to now classing State pension as a benefit. In 2016 Theresa May stoped widow’s inheriting their husband’s contributions. My husband worked very hard for 45 years. He only ever had a few days off in his working life. He died in 2016 before being old enough to collect his pension. His contributions all went back into the benefit pot to pay for all the freebies immigrants are getting. I was unable to use my husband’s contributions to top up my own and apparently this applies to the vast majority of widows. It’s disgusting!
This is exactly what happened to me also. My husband died after receiving six months state pension. Unlike you I was awarded a whole £9 per month to my state pension. We have a British Government that’s for foreigners and to keep them here by any means possible. We need an English Government.
I agree with you. The state pension is half the amount of the minimum wage and no one calls minimum wage earners rich.
I do not understand why the Labour party does not change their position to one that would be fairer. Anyone above £ 15 000 per annum revenues will not get the fuel allowance and those below will get £ 300 per winter. Many live with just above £12 000 to allow them to get pension credit, so it seems that it will leave too many cold and in dire straights....£15 000 is very low still to live on, but reasonable in these circumstances.
