My favorite part of his story is that after he was injured and being evacuated from the war zone, he realized that he lost his bible in the battlefield. He asked the people at the aid station if they had seen it but they said no. Eventually word got around to his division that he lost his bible. Knowing how important Doss' bible was to him, the division started looking for it, in a warzone, and ended up finding a month later and sending it to him shortly after. It goes to show how much the division respected him and how much they grew from when they were fresh recruits.
The part where he’s lowering each man down and just praying that he gets 1 more each time and instead of even praying for himself makes me really emotional
Fun fact: How many people Doss saved is actually disputed. His company states he saved about 100, Doss disagreed, he said the number was closer to 50. They agreed to meet in the middle, and call it 75.

Even in videogames. I absolutely love the guys that go frantically saving everyone instead of worrying for their k/d ratio. I think it kinda tells something about them.
Actually if anything, he put more of that deed onto God. He believed God was the reason behind it all. So he felt proud to be able to be chosen by God in that way to save as many as he did. He was extremely humble.
I think he was probably really sad he couldn't have saved more, and lived with the weight of that for the rest of his life. If he was proud he would have stopped at a reasonable number most people would have saved 9 people and stop like that's enough of that. He didn't and i think he would have kept going and saved every person in the war if he could have. I don't believe he was proud, even a little bit. And I'm sure the faces of those he couldn't saved were way more of a burden than the faces of those you killed to save yourself.
My wife and I had the honor of meeting Desmond Doss in the early to mid 1980's in CT when he came to testify to his experience in WWII. It is an understatement to say he was a humble man. He was the kindest, most honorable man I ever had the privilege to speak with. God was most certainly with him. The bookwas far better than the movie. My guess is, Mel Gibson had to dial it back as to seem more believable. Amazing story, amazing man, amazing God who shielded and guided him.
I was 2 when bro died. Wish I had the chance to atleast meet him, cus damn. Thats a once in a generation type of man. I can only aspire to be like him bro
I am not a religious person, but this guy was an Angel and for him I would pray. Let's hope that if a afterlife exists, he is actually being honored and treated well.
It does which is why this man prayed, you know many people today say "I'm a Christian" and many people sadly don't even live like one nor pray. Thankfully there's people like him that do believe and do pray and is why many of Christians are being killed in other countries. There's indeed eternal life and if this man was like this and he never gave up on his faith, believe me when I say he is in a better place.
Although we have many religions in this world, each saying that they are the true followers of God (or Gods)and that other religions are untrue and that they are heathens, but based on my teachings in my religion, God sees the deeds of a person and if the deed is true to heart (for example if you do charity, it must not be used as a deliberate tool for gaining fame or recognition...well not intentionally that is...). So even though Doss religious beliefs are different than mine. I feel that he should be treated well for his devotion in an "afterlife" or whatever is on the other side if his actions were true to heart.
My father in law, a surgeon today, was a medic with no weapon in Vietnam. Same religious group, and a contentious objector as well, he went on feild patrols on the front lines. He saved a lot of lives and found his love for medicine there, but doesn't talk about that time much.
Another awesome fact that sometimes is overlooked. After the war, one of the Japanese soldiers who fought at Hacksaw Ridge stated that he has several chances to kill Desmond Doss as he on several occassions had clear shots at him but every time he went to shoot Doss, his gun jammed.
Serving at a frontline is already scary enough, imagine having to be a medic, save other lives, constantly worrying about yours and all this done without a weapon. And in the end he came back alive. What a fucking legend
For real, Doss is the true example of a selfless hero. It's great that videos like this exist so people don't forget about him. What an inspirational human being.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7 Right up to his final breath I would imagine he lived that way.
I knew his brother Harold “Hal” Doss. He was an amazing and humble man and had saved a fellow serviceman on a ship I had heard, but he never mentioned it personally. It was an honor knowing him. Both men were a blessing to whomever they encountered.
*1 year later* Death: "is now the time, sir" Doss: "yes now is the time, thank you for your patients" Death: "you are more than welcomed, Sir, come with me, Sir"
Please if nothing else survives on UA-cam please keep this channel alive I a 26yr old in America needs this with all the generations after and before me especially in 2023 and above. May God be with us.
I heard of a World War II story one time, and it was about a American soldier who brought a trumpet to the front lines, and one day when they were under sniper fire at night time he went out and played his trumpet anyway, and asked one of his fellow soldiers what was a popular German song, and he played it while a sniper was watching him and sniper never fired, and that’s because that’s the song they played at that German soldiers wedding before he left and he came to the American crying and then surrendered.
Remind me with story of german plane who didn't shot down an exhausted british plane because he admired with that pilot perseverance to fly back even in reallybad shape. They met on their old time, accomodated by both countries. Edit : few words and change american to british

Not only was this dude a savior, he was an absolute unit. He stomped on a grenade and only injured his legs, not blast them off. These are the war stories I love seeing.
grenades aren't bombs, they won't remove your legs. they're going to absolutely destroy your legs, though, nerves, veins, arteries. the lethality of a grenade comes from the metal fragments that ejects off like bullets, known as "shrapnel". they're basically single use omnidirectional guns.

Actually if anything, he put more of that deed onto God. He believed God was the reason behind it all. So he felt proud to be able to be chosen by God in that way to save as many as he did. He was extremely humble.
Very proud
@@ItsNotKitsu EXACTLY! 🙏🏾
Anon Em Amazing! He gave all glory to God.
There was plenty of things that happened to Desmond that was not included as people would claim it was made up.
His book along with "The mover of men and mountains" are two of the very best I have ever read.
Hacksaw Ridge was a great movie

Hey, aren't you the guy that make lego stop motion videos? The last video I've watched on your channel was the Second Sino-Japanese War
Underrated.
Religion in a nutshell is a distraction that there might be no afterlife

Another awesome fact that sometimes is overlooked. After the war, one of the Japanese soldiers who fought at Hacksaw Ridge stated that he has several chances to kill Desmond Doss as he on several occassions had clear shots at him but every time he went to shoot Doss, his gun jammed.

If its true that's an amazing story. War brings out our worst and our best.
Remind me with story of german plane who didn't shot down an exhausted british plane because he admired with that pilot perseverance to fly back even in reallybad shape. They met on their old time, accomodated by both countries.

grenades aren't bombs, they won't remove your legs. they're going to absolutely destroy your legs, though, nerves, veins, arteries.
the lethality of a grenade comes from the metal fragments that ejects off like bullets, known as "shrapnel". they're basically single use omnidirectional guns.

I don't know how it works with Protestant Christians, but at least with Catholic Christians, it must be at least one miracle attributed to him, at least with Catholic Christians we have the blessed, this group of Catholic people are recognized as something relative as saints but without a miracle attributed to them, and most of the times blessed becomes saints, for example a Mexican saint Saint José Sánchez del Río
