Keipfr (I apologize if I’ve gotten your name wrong) kudos to u! I really think that your tech of debossing and then using a Pearl white mica powder definitely lends to a more realistic metal look. I’ve seen a lot of faux metal and stone videos and to my eye, this is the most realistic. When u think about it, shiny new silver is not typically a heavy silver color so I believe that using that mica shade really helps trick the eye into believing it’s more metal like. At least it appears that way on camera. And the debossing also looks more like what would be found on metal instead of raised ridges. It’s all just perfect in combination. Congrats on your find! Can’t wait to try it! ❤
And I forgot to say that I found the tech of yours of making the faux stone very interesting. Thank u for that. It certainly looks a whole lot less messy than the tech with chopping up clay and using paint then. I’ll be very interested to try that and see if I like it! But again I very much especially like the pieces using the white Pearl mica powder. The gray powder has always seemed a little heavy to me in my own work so I like this idea. Thanks again!❤
Thank you 🥰 There are many types and some are like the chopped up and acrylic paint technique, but this is my version of a Hubei turquoise, which is a more solid turquoise colour turquoise. I semi cured the top layers so they'd give a natural rough edge, and also to stop the clay from squishing too much. I did make more turquoise to use in the members only, which I think I did better with regards to colour and shapes. Embossing and debossing can make a huge difference in the appearance and most often I find myself reaching for the reversed stamp rather than the original, of course depending on the look I wish to achieve. Meyspring is a fantastic brand of mica powder and really bonds with the clay. I find that varnish on top takes away from the finish and this powder is durable enough on it's own. Again I played around with the powders and metal effects and came up with a new technique which I based the members only tutorial on. Also, Meyspring sent me a mica powder that is just amazing and has aluminium in it so it actually is metallic. I used it on the shield shape pendant in the short ua-cam.com/users/shortsYUjB2KqV2j4?si=ODGRjWTk5OVoa54o in the first photo on the bottom right.
