The Southern California Rapid Transit District (RTD), a predecessor agency to present day L.A. Metro announced service cuts in the San Gabriel Valley. In 1988, newly created Foothill Transit acquired several local and express lines from the RTD over a period of five years (Foothill Transit, 2012, p. 10). Line 480 was one of those lines acquired; while under Foothill Transit administration, the line grew in popularity and was constantly crowding (Foothill Transit, 2006, p. 18).
To alleviate some of the crowding, Foothill Transit was developing a new express service by solely using 60 foot low floor articulated transit buses specially designed for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) (Gutierrez, 2006). On March 18, 2007, line 707 Silver Streak was introduced and being funded by Proposition C, a voter-approved sales tax ordinance to provide overcrowding relief on specific bus lines (Foothill, 2012, p. 25).
Line 480 was reduced to local service from Monclair to West Covina while the Silver Streak streamlined routing by utilizing the El Monte Busway and HOV lanes on the Interstate 10 freeway. Foothill Transit's Silver Streak Line is Southern California's only 24 hour service from Montclair in San Bernardino County to Downtown Los Angeles (Foothill Transit, 2018). These are the scenes from that afternoon.

Cal Poly Pomona and FT have been having some sort of conversation I say, about adding a new stop at Cal Poly Pomona at Silver Streak. At the earliest, the stop could added in time for the beginning of the 22-23 year. This plan actually makes sense as CPP is a major destination and CPP students deserve a one-seat ride to DTLA. Aside from it, imagine SS and J Line were merged into a one-seat ride. It will be amazing as the merge will almost be 60-70 miles long (Line 496 was probably around the same mileage). Without expanding the freeway, it will be nice if the El Monte Busway was expanded to Montclair and also provided extra stops between CSULA and EMS. If the Busway was extended to Montclair and added stops between CSULA and EMS, I would love to see the stations being added at the following locations:
- Garfield Av and/or Atlantic Bl
- Del Mar Av (this may not be recommended as this could severely affect MTA Lines 487/489; but, hopefully, it can serve DTLA at least during weekdays only)
- Rosemead Bl
- Puente Av (Upgraded similar to Slauson/Manchester Stations)
- Plaza West Covina (Upgraded similar to Rosecrans/Carson Stations)
- Azusa (Upgraded similar to Slauson/Manchester Stations)
- Eastland Center (Prob reinstated, but the platform would be similar to Rosecrans/Carson Stations)
- Cal Poly Pomona
- Pomona Transit Center
- New stop at Montclair Plaza (Platform would be similar to the old Warner Center Station)
- Montclair Station.
Again, those are my wishes, but due to "budget issues" it would likely not going to happen unfortunately.
We can always dream of the what if scenarios. Makes total sense also stops at smaller eastern universities along the expansive line 👍

Hey JMO, If you have money on the TAP card, fare is $2.50. If you pay with cash, the fare is $2.75. It’s the best deal to go nearly 50 miles for $2.75 to check out the sights.

If I have a tap card, and I have stored value on it, do they take it or do I need to have like EZ transit Pass or Regional Pass to get on instead of Stored Value, for all of foothill transit buses
Hello, great question. If you have stored value on your TAP card, you will be able to use it on any agency that accepts TAP. If you are strictly using Foothill Transit, we suggest to buy a monthly pass through them. But, it’s always wise to have another TAP card with stored value if you plan to use another agency on a rare occasion or get the EZ Transit pass if you plan to use more than three agencies. We hope this helps you in your travels. We would like to record more Foothill buses in the future. Thank you.
