- In 2016, Foothill Transit tested a Alexander Dennis Enviro500 double decker bus on the Silver Streak and passengers enjoyed it! Two years later in 2018, Foothill received a $1.4 million grant to purchase two all-electric Alexander Dennis Enviro500EV buses, which were built in partnership with Proterra which supplied the battery and power train technology. In addition, Foothill already has plenty of Proterra electric buses in their fleet, and these double deckers are part of Foothill Transit’s plan to go all-electric by 2030. These buses were built in Scotland and were originally supposed to enter service in 2019, but was later delayed to 2021, with the buses arriving in January and undergoing testing for several months before entering revenue service.
As of this week, the buses have finally made their debut as one of the two units, 3001, did a westbound trip on the Silver Streak on Tuesday, August 24 before returning to Arcadia yard for the rest of the day. They didn’t come out again until yesterday when I was checking TransSee and noticed that 3000 was on its way to Montclair TransCenter to possibly do another trip on the Silver Streak, which it did. I made my way up to El Monte Station to capture and ride one of those buses for the first time, not just for me but on UA-cam as well since I’m the first transit fan to film one of these buses in service!
I filmed two versions of my ride along: an shorter iPhone version (this video) and another unedited version on my GoPro camera which was attached to a suction cup mount on the window.
Recorded: 8/26/2021
Division: Transdev Arcadia Yard
Engine: ??
Transmission: ??
I had to come back to this video because this morning, I hit the jackpot! I got to ride on #3001 going east on my way to school! It's such a sweet ride! I also saw #3000 on my way back
Awesome! 🙌🏼
Was it on the Silver Streak again this time?
@@ocbusfan why some of the bus drivers have lunch break
Very amazing video. And surprisingly, I was on that 487 that passed you before Valley. I thought I was seeing things when I first seen the bus. You are extremely lucky. And I would've got on, had I not ran out of stored value on my TAP card...
Ooh interesting! Thankfully Foothill has been using these buses more lately, you can track them using TransSee
Alright, definitely will look into that.
@@ocbusfan I saw one of the double decker buses for the very first time in person
@@ocbusfan I swear this bus looked a lot like the NABI LFW buses except it was double decker
I really hope this is just a small issue. I know this bus can handle the hill judging by the press footage posted.
The other bus, 3001, was able to complete a full trip on Tuesday morning but then went back to the yard afterwards
@@ocbusfan today I also took exterior pictures and interior walk around of 3001
Really awesome!
10:04 also have announcements
I love it
Need more passengers? Need some on the METRO LINES?
What a nive video! 😍
Back in the 80s Southern California rapid transit district RTD had disel Power 9900s neoplan double deckers Express routes Rush hour like 496 etc my dad drove RTD 484 Line Los Angeles to Pomona via Valley Blvd Old RTD Yard on East end Pomona CA across the street from foothill transit he let us see inside a RTD double deckers 9900 when I was a kid like around 5
Technically line 707 The Nick named it silver streak there's two electric power double deckers 3000 and it's mate 3001 I haven't been on them. I rode the Old 1600 trailer bus to El Monte station a few times
The passenger at the centre door was so rude
Awesome documentation OC Bus Fan. What a timeless episode that will be referred back over time.
Stay tuned for the full unedited GoPro version coming tomorrow!
@@ocbusfan as always
The bus driver you see is a dispacter because I saw him in the supervisor car.
I thought AD was in a partnership with BYD to build electric buses.
Please sell this bus to Hong Kong!
Is this rare in Los Angeles with the Proterra powertrain and rear axles Remixed due to the strict California Air Resources Board emissions in Southern California for diesel engines
Not proterra, Alexander Denis
@@deathbat1188 Alexander Dennis built the bus, Proterra supplied the battery and drivetrain
@@Park_Place No wonder its a crappy bus. Proterra battery is garbage just like the drivetrain. New Flyer is the way.
Haven't had much luck with Protera the first batch of busses were 2000s for foothill transit 291 mechanical engineering failure wouldn't stay charged drive chain one unit had a dash fire 2008 I think needless to say we wrote them off after 5 years I guess 2600s are newer models they was 2016 and 2017 they were bigger but like the smaller 2000s The big 2000s had the same issue. We finally ordered 3100 hydrogen fuel cell to replace the battery buses. Good idea but only if the battery works as designed. Otherwise you'll stuck with buses that constantly have to be out of service
Before the 3100s we had to use the cng NABI bus odd disels on a route that is supposed to have electric bus. Even the drivers hated the 2000s thank God for the 3100s much nicer model
So the route/line is the silver streak?
Yes also called line 707
It's a montclair Transit center to downtown Los Angeles via 10 freeway Express route
It replaced the 480 Los Angeles segment
West of the West Covina Mall 480 still does local service from Montclair CA to West Covina CA
Beyond West Covina to Los Angeles requires a ride on the silver streak bus
