Age 75 is the age limit for a Supreme Court Judge in Canada.
And Canada is a Pathetic place. Putting people in jail if they Mis gender. Yeah, lets go with Canada.. NOT.
there's a reason a president is only good for 8 years at most. the longer you stay on the job the more you'd feel less idealistic and more entitled about your position. but a supreme court judge can stay on forever and forever be untainted by urges and temptation?? yea...that goes against man's nature.
Canadians don’t have a constitution with clearly defined rights
It’s why Trudeau violates so many freedoms
Canada is not the United States of America.
@@ianw0ng Two terms is to do with the convention of presidents of the United States stepping down after eight years. Franklin D Roosevelt broke that convention hence the amendment limiting terms.
Yo, listen up! This Supreme Court thing is crazy, man. They got more power than the president and Congress combined. It's like they think they're untouchable or something. They need to chill and realize they're not above the law. This whole thing is messed up.
They don’t have more power than the other two branches combined. LOL! ‘Co-equal’
No, the Supreme Court has no ability to enforce their own rulings - none.
@@reason6835 they are not co-equal. If any branches take a case to the, their decision is final, either good or bad. They interpret the law however they want, and no one can change it. They can override the president's decisions as they wish, and no one can override theirs. That is never a Co-equal.
They are not above the law, nor have they ever shown that they might feel that way. What makes you say this?
@@jasonfocacci9234He is an unhinged Democrat
How about term limits for all federal judges? No more lifetime appointments. Perhaps after 18 years, a judge could be reappointed in 6 year terms, requiring reapproval.
That’s the reason they have a lifetime appointment to avoid the chance of political influence in order to be reapproved.
@@concernedcitizen5971 Well, lifetime appointments sure ain't preventing political influence. Now what?
@@mile_high_topher It’s not the court’s responsibility to make decisions based on what you feel is appropriate it’s for them to interpret the law, even RBG was against the roe decision because it is not a constitutional right. . If you want to protect your feelings then you should consult your therapist not blame the scotus.
@@concernedcitizen5971 It's the court's responsibility to make decisions based on precedent, something they decided doesn't matter at all in their recent sessions.
@@mile_high_topher If they find the president isn’t based on constitutional law then it’s their responsibility to change it. As stated before even RBG didn’t believe roe was rooted in constitutional law and she was a staunch liberal.
Hey, why don't you actually stop Presidential appointments of judges. Make them independent appointments instead! Fixed terms would be good as well
It’s not that simple dude. The States have agreed on the current rules (by a 3/4ths majority). You can’t just “stop Presidential appointments” by declaring it. You need to amend the Constitution and get 3/4ths of the States to agree.
And don’t forget that the Senate also has to confirm. It isn’t just the President unilaterally installing Federal Judges.
The president nominates the Senate confirms. What would you suggest in the alternative.
Was Roe radical overreach lack of restraint
100% Ironically, the whole point of lifetime appointments is/was to insulate Justices from political pressure from the Government of the day. Yet, because the appointments aren't by recommendation of some independent/expert body, it has become a way for the government of the day to install ideologues, who then interfere with politics for the next forty years or more....
Change the Constitution of the United States and explain to me who should be on the independent council and who would appoint the independent council.
Should have thought about this 3 years ago. Should have thought about a lot of things 3 years ago. Time is tight.
These are not new proposals. Been around since the founding of the Supreme Court. There is a very good reasons it get rejected every time.
The Democrats MUST hold the Senate for any hope of seeing real Court reform.
Easier said than done, sadly.
Agreed. But unfortunately Joe doesn't look like he can win, and if he stays in, he may well lose the senate as well.
There are a lot of seats in play this year!!
What can the senate do? Even if the communist party keeps it? Nothing

@@mile_high_topherAnd the left can be trusted?
@@mile_high_topher Imagine if they lost the election, then the Democratic candidate has complete immunity for 4 years.
They might consider it when it benefits them.
18 years ? What about 8 years like the presidency ? Why these people can sit on the court for life ? If this was happening in a Southern Hemisphere country America would call it a banana republic and a dictatorship.
We aren't far off...
Our countries legal and political climate is starting to eerily look a lot like Russia's...
Presidency is 2 full terms or 10 years, not 8 years. If a VP takes over as pres for just 2 years he can still run for 2 full terms. So president is technically limited to 10 years
The Supreme Court should not be partisan. They are meant to interpret the constitution and apply it, to issues brought before them, not create new laws.
What new laws did the Supreme Court of the United States make?
@@jonathandnicholson It made a law in the 70's that women had the right to abort their fetuses, but they fixed it.
@@rhyslucero1400 Well, made abortion legal within restrictions by making an erroneous interpretation of the Constitution of United States.

The Court is going to find any term limits bill/law to be unconstitutional. There needs to be a constitutional amendment.
How would a constitutional amandment make a difference to a Supreme Court that has already proved it cares nothing about what the Constitution says?
The Court will find the Amendment unconstitutional, because there are no actionable standards for judges.
@@MusicandMMA: You don’t think the Justices who decided Marbury vs Madison were originalists in 1803?
An amendment will NEVER be passed by the Republican-controlled Senate. With the help of the corrupt Supreme Court, it would be DOA.
They were not. Judicial review was established with that case, not the constitution.
The Extreme Court crossed the rubicon with the immunity ruling. They all seem very confident in the new coup plans.
George Conway doesn't think it's too bad though

This is coming too late. He had 3.5 years to put this forward. I want reforms, but I don't want them as just political talking points.
Had Biden put this forward before Dobbs, when there were no ethical or partisan concerns for SCOTUS, what do you think would have happened during the midterms?
There wasn't an opportunity to forward such contentious changes without repurcussion until now, until after Dobbs, Chevron's repeal, the Immunity decision, and all the ethical scandals.
You have a choice: both or neither. You can have reforms as talking points, or no reforms. Which will it be? I'm choosing reforms.
No he has not. He needs Blue guys in congress to do these things. The first 2 years he didn't have enough Senators and the second 2 years he doesn't have the house majority.
That is just not true.....

The term limit of the President of the United States has nothing to do with psychology. Look how long George Washington was POTUS for.

It was supposed to keep them unbeholden to politics.

They didn't expand his authority. He never had the ability to do this on his own. What the court did was that they made it that the oath of office doesn't really exist. In other words, any exercise of the constitutional powers in the constitution are absolutely immune. He could order the military to do something. This doesn't stop impeachment, but he would not be prosecutable.
@richardveloso9702 because executive orders are for the running of the executive branch. The number of supreme court justices was set by Congress. An executive order cant overrule a law set by the legislature.
Republican governers interviewed at RNC, when asked if they will certify the 2024 election results, all have caveats. Please give attention to what this potentially means for November.

How about no more Senators (Menendez) taking gold bars from Egyptians, no more undercover dealings period...both sides are guilty
Yay Sheldon Whitehouse!
The majority if not the entirety of what has been alleged so far by Sen Sheldon Whitehouse is beyond prosecution because much (if not the entirety) of the alleged is beyond the statute of limitations (five years). Furthermore, pointless bringing in new legislation to get Justice Thomas is pointless because legislation in the United States ... cannot apply retroactively. Legislation can apply retroactively in the United Kingdom ..., but the UK is not the US.
Still, Justice Thomas is innocent until proven guilty.

Your Republican Party has packed the court. More judges could be appointed to unpack it.

Your polling data on this points up a huge political truth in the country - progressive liberal (falsely labeled "radical far left") policies are at the CENTER of the American political spectrum
I agree that we are in desperate need of reform but to allow one of the 3 branches of government the power to reform another is absurd and dangerous. This needs to be done independently of government, democratically, and free from potential corrupt influences. This is a republic and the actions of government should reflect the will and best interests of the people, which cant be defined by the colors red, blue, black, white or any other color, shape, size, race etc. We need to stop treating these life altering decisions like we're a bunch of drunk idiots sitting in the bleachers at a football game. The problem with term limits is that it opens the door for political calculation by making vacancies known ahead of time. The corrosive possibilities are undeniable.

That’s absolutely nonsense. It is precisely because of lifetime appointments, such corrupt and corrosive negatives occour.
That’s almost a generation. How about 10 years maximum. RBG died in office. That’s ridiculous.
Here in Germany we have term limits for supreme court judges.
Term limits, 13 judges and rules, 3 strikes your are out just like a regular job.
Welcome to the world of the ppl, accountability.
Biden needs to add four more justices while we still have the Senate with age and term limits
Never going to happen nor should it. Only times this topic comes up is when we have political leaders who have ill intentions for the country and its people.
Just proves how stupid they were appointing those clowns for life long term positions
Supreme court thinks they are the law how wrong they are
That's REIN in, not REIGN in. And an extra bit of free advice for anyone reading this: the related expression is free REIN.
Because Democrats didn't like the results? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
How about not having a president in office does not mentally fit? leave the Supreme Court alone, they are there to make decisions based on the law not on what specific party might want. This is opening a whole can of worms.
Getting control of Congress and Senate is the most important task. Republicans have been house majority for a year and a half, and they have achieved nothing but wasteing time on pointless inquiries.
Legislation through Judiciary. Never thought I'd see it. Lawyers are VERY superficial, opposite of EXPERTS.
The strange thing is that most Americans disapprove of the things this Republican dominated Supreme Court has done recently and plans to continue doing, but those same Americans have voted for the party that appointed them, and according to most polls still do not intend to vote for the only presidential candidate that is willing to stop their politically motivated agenda.
