- Here is a Rare machine for you. My newest addition to my collection. 1961 Zenith Console Stereo. This one has the Reverberation unit in it. What also makes this a rare machine is the changer. This is what i call a cross over. This for 61 has the whats to come Micro-Touch 2g Style changer, But notice it has the Cobramatic still. This is a rare changer because it was showing whats to come for 62. This is the same as the other i have the full Micro-Touch 2g changer in my other Zentih. This one is also belt driven very quiet. You never see this changer ever. Its either the full micro touch or the Cobra-matic, but not the Cross over one. This also has Zenith reverberation sound as well. I have not restored this unit yet, it is all original. I will end up recapping the amps this fall and the preamp. But all original it sounds great. Lots of power. The original price of 495.95 tag was still inside to. All i did was i pulled the changer oiled cleaned it, I also pulled the preamp and cleaned the pots thats all i did. The needle is new. Enjoy
We had a stereo like that and I was a kid and unaware of how nice it was. Now after seeing more modern turntables, speakers, and amplifiers I know how much nicer it was. I wish we still had our old stereo.
I just found one of these beautiful machines (exactly the same model) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. And very well preserved. As new!
Thanks for posting this! My friend's parents down the street from me had one of these when I was a kid in the mid 60's. I loved the sound of it! I was always amazed by that built-in 45 RPM adapter! Brings back fond memories of the summer of 1966, listening to this console for hours and hours playing stack-after stack of the latest 45s.
I have 1960s and 1970s stuff in my front room....I have the Klipsch 1946 USA 1960s new Version with Bluetooth....in my front room...and 1970s Aiwa Boombox Stereo...it is neat to see with todays stuff... Space Age pad for sure 😊
I love these vids with the mid-century modern console stereos! I've been watching tons of them in the hopes of seeing the unit we had in our house when I was a little kid and this is the one that comes closest: I don't believe ours had reverb, or that extend stereo switch, and when you opened it, the radio dial and control panel which looked nearly identical to this one, were down lower, flush with the platform the turntable sat on. Also, the middle two sections of grill cloth on yours was a single wooden panel with an inlaid design on ours, otherwise, pretty much the same unit. Same grill cloth, same dimensions, same flip up 45 adapter and phono arm. I'm thinking my parents may have gotten it around '61, but I'm guessing one or two years later. And now I have a rough idea of what they paid for it! Nothing ever sounded better!
DAMN,I never expected the highs to be so crisp and clear. Sounds like the orchestra is right in your garage. Beautiful player
My parents had a 1960 Westinghouse console stereo. Italian provincial, mahogany. The loudness control (not volume) went from 0 to 10. We never played it more than 5.5, and even then it still made the china in the cabinet rattle and the pictures on the wall dance.
My magnavox round table counsel I'm the same cant really go past 4-5 for volume.
What a beautiful HI-FI !!! I loved it!

Thank you my friend
@@Turkeydoodlers thank you turkeydoodlers
I have a Cobramatic changer in my 1950 Zenith AM/FM phono and TV console. Thats a great looking and sounding old stereo. The problem with collecting this old stuff is finding places to put it all. Gary
Nice version of Fly Me To The Moon 😊
That console sounds amazing!!!! The Old audio was built to last and I feel the sound is better then what they make now!!!
Plug on a good MP3 player and the magic sound will disappear.
The records of the 60ies sound also better, because there were made with love and that I can hear.
@@erniundhenry9546 Just like the good separation on those Command albums from the early 1960's.
How wonderful!!!! I loved this beautiful tube cabinet !! how beautiful HI-FI! I loved the music too, and on the other hand, I noticed the beautiful sound quality .. look! this crystal must be from the system of two copper wire fields, the primary and the secondary! , or it could be the RCA crystal ... one of the best, but because it is a tube sound, of course the sound power is perfect! of sound, and I think it is wonderful !!!
WOW... I have this album playing. I love it. It was this album that made me appreciate Si Zentner. Since finding this album along my searches, I've bought most of the Si Zentner stuff. The second song in the video, "Fly Me To The Moon", is the Zentner song. Classic.
Wow, almost 5 hundred for that way back in '61. That's huge in today's dollars. On par with the price of the modern day McIntosh audio components. Like you said, you always have to pay for quality. Great find.
this is an amazing changer and my friends parents had this when I was younger and they spent 5 hundred dollars for it . I remember how great this was and it sounds just as great now . thank you for posting this and all the best
Extra Stereo Sound!! ♥️ With Superb Big Band Sound! Another word hold my hand! Pun intended that is! 😄
Great tubes Zenith sound. The reberveration unit may be as a double (stereo) spring reberb like a The Fisher SpaceExpander and so on. Anyway looks and sound like new. You're a lucky man. Zenith always has been a brand with hight quality products designed and craft-handwired circuits with tubes all made in USA. "Commited to excelence" like they sayd.... Congratulations.
We had exactly the same Zenith. It was called Zenith Cordoba and found its way to the Phil Is via USS PRES WILSON. To date, I regret selling that unit.
Zenith sound in their higher end sets is hard to beat. W had a 70 model 320 watt set with 15" bass and horn tweeters. Magnificent sound. Ours did have the floating 2g tome arm.
like the 45 adaptor, at least you'll never lose it, like so many of these did
Good ol' Sid Ramin arrangements, sounds like ." in your face " type of big band.
It sounds really good.
Its beautiful!!! And it does sound great!! How cool you found the price tag!!
awesome,i have the vibrasonic on my motorola portable.it sounds neat but cant use too much, otherwise it sounds like the music is coming out of a tunnel.
Beautiful work
I think I saw one of these in an episode of "The Man From U N C L E". I'm always curious about amplifier circuits. What kind of output tubes does this have? 6BQ5?, 6L6?. Looks like this has the dual dial tuner to allow for stereo simulcasts where they broadcast one channel on FM and the other on AM before the FM multiplex system became available. Zenith: The Quality Goes In Before The Name Goes On---and they really meant it when this was built. I did work for a Zenith dealer, but it was long after these were sold.
❤❤❤ beautyfull
I have that record!! It really rocks!!
Holy isht! courtesy of the inflation calculator, " What cost $495.00 in 1961 would cost $3747.50 in 2012."
That thing is amazing
Most people don't realize it, but "Voice of Music" made some very high end turntables. Most people just know them from their low end models because those went into of the lower end sets that most people bought. I've never been able to verify where these belt driven turntables in the very high end Zeniths originated, but I suspect they were made for Zenith by VM. And yes, the difference between tube amps and modern ones is just like the difference between LPs and digital storage. You know it sounds better, but you cannot quite verbalize why. These suckers pulled a LOT of amps, though.
im a zenith nut too ever since i was teen my fam would go to the kmart store id run straight to the electronics dept im realy amazed how great those early 1980s all in one compacts sound ! and those allegro speakers ! in 1989 i discoverd the old real wood cabinets console stereos the 50watt amps 3 way spkrs. 10 in. woofers horn tweets i couldnt belive all this technolgy in this equipment ! my uncle had one he was going to sell it but he just gave it to me zenith was a no.1 !
Great soud
awesome machine one day I hope to find something about my parents zenith they got around 1962
Great machine! Very nice! Thanks for video.
You have got some of the best consoles. I love seeing the items you get. I have watched many of your videos with the Zeniths and Motorola units. I can't believe the awesome items that fall into your lap in such great condition and for such great prices.
I have Zenith two Zenith consoles. One is from about '66 witch works fine and is solid state. The other is one of the first stereo consoles with the older, smaller Cobra head. My label reads Zenith Extended Sound. It is a tube unit. It does need work, recaps, etc. I would love to find someone to bring the unit back to life. It has the 10" woofers and the horns for high frequency/mid range. Any help would be appreciated. I am in New Jersey.
Nice find!!!
Plus, you really have to play records from the period to get the best quality sound
This console predates FM stereo multiplex. note the separate AM and FM tuners. These consoles of the 1960s were considered "brown goods" compared to component hi fi. The units were not "brown goods for nothing. They deserved it. Save for restoration they were well made and could perform for many years to come.
Wish I could hear it in person.
Sounds awesome! I would like to get anyone's ideas on using a Bluetooth receiver with
my Fisher 500C receiver and which ones would be good and not overly
expensive that will be applicable! Also, what input would I use? I am
currently utilizing the Aux/Tape input for the CD player and have a
cassette in the Tape monitor input!
Zenith stereo Recording Music 🎼. Zenith Music
The first thing I ever had given to me was I old 47 I believe cobramatic 10in speaker mono but it had a big chassis and it sounded good
Glad you all liked it, this is a great sounding unit. I notce the video seems a little wavy and slow? My Internet that day was acting up,mthey were working on it at the time, sorry about that.
Beautiful!!!!
The reverb is just a metal cage housing coiled wires
Hi I have a 1964 Zenith Monet console stereo everything works except the light on the tuner. The burned out bulb is marked H 1847 which is old has a small nipple on the bottom of the bulb. I am looking for the old style bulbs all the new 1847 bulbs do not make contact because the is no nipple/pen on the bottom. Do you know where I can find those bulbs I have tried radio shack, the light bulb depot, and all auto parts stores they only have the new ones with the conductor on the bottom. If you tell me where to look I would be very grateful. Thanks Jonathan
😊
nice find. Too bad you couldn't have fed a line out to your camera.
Did this console have the 1961 Zenith FM Stereo circuitry? The FCC approved the Zenith Multiplex FM Stereo system as the US FM Stereo broadcast standard on March 1, 1961. Wondering if this console had the stereo/mono dual circuit.
Hey, T.doodlers...Amazing! Had not seen this one until today! Did you restore it? Sounds like it didn't need a thing here at all! Great album choice to showcase this player! Thanks for the share! (Mario)
I'll take a Fisher console, but Zenith is the top of not quite component audio.
Vacuum tubes or solid state? ... Bright sounding like early solid state. Modern stylus or original? Seems like it's playing LP at correct speed. Are speakers full range with whizzer cone or ... woofer/tweeter with crossover.
There is a record changer forum???i want in...
Hi there, I have one of these radios and I was wondering what the values of these things run.
what would you say [if anything ] makes Magnavox superior to Zenith where stereo is concerned
its beautiful but if you dont have an external speaker why do you have it switched to ex speaker...does it change the sound?
Does it get stereo fm? ihink stereo fm came out in 1961 but that console might be the tail-end of mono only fm
Larry Shaver
Not this model no
But I had a top of the line zenith for 61 has it
Do you have any Genn Miller? I would love to hear some Moonlight Serenade on that console.
Load that thing up with a bunch of albums and get hours of playing time.
did you ever rebuild this yet very nice video...
is that an ev 26 cartridge?
Is it tube or solid state? I'm guessing tube, but anything's possible.
Anyone know where I can listen or find this album?
eBay
thank you
Looks like this unit has no AUX/Line/Tape input?
Too bad, would make it easy to add a cassette deck/cd player/bluetooth adapter to hear through this unit's amp and speakers
Do you know the model number I’m very interested in this specific unit
Looks like MH2615
Hi Richard
I don't think it's your idler wheel
Especially if it's new sounds like the cycling needs to be fully cleaned and lubed a little more
But once it's done this changer will last a long time
got seasick watching this
what abum are you playing
$500 is like 10,500 in todays money
will that get stereo fm?
Yes
I didn't think even zenith had that feature already
Yes, but only Zenith...the FCC approved their FM Stereo standard March 1, 1961 and the first commercial station in the Chicago area (the call letters escape me) was authorized April 1, 1961 after several months operating with special stereo test authority from the FCC.
@@kingbee1500 The station is WFMT (FM Transmitter)
Show us the speakers
1961 the original owners no doubt are dead.
50 to 150 depending on the model some fisher units can go to 250 to 350 but don't waste your time looking on ebay all of those prices are not reality based in fact 90% of the "buy it nows" are insane and no one pays those prices..yet they list em and list list the same over priced units over and over again..pure stupidity I guess.
Um... Um... Um...
Sorry, I couldn't go on, what with all the verbal pauses.
Reverb was a gimmick.
