For me its PC all the way, but much of that is down to familiarity as I having been using Rhino since version 2. As a teacher of Rhino the differences between the two versions are a problem. My request to McNeal would be to make the two versions more similar. Good job on the video.
Our company is based on Mac and I don't see reason why don't use Rhino if you don't have windows PC. And It works and very well ... Yes some plugins are not support this is true. But for example Ladybug, Pufferfish or Python script are support for Mac. Archicad have connection with grasshopper. Also You don't need to use 10 other softwares. I mean Archicad, Rhino Grasshopper, Twinmotion, Photoshop, Finalcut are totally enough. Last thinks and maybe more important : Mac is more expensive but it's working and supported much better than windows computers. You can have quite old Mac 6-8 years and still Rhino 7 working very well.
May I ask you something about this topic? I use exactly same Programms that you have written hier. wanna buy a mac studio 2022 .But I didn't see a lot comment on You tube.Which Mac-Model do you use? Or do you have an Idee which one is better mac book pro or mac studio?
@@selensahinn We're using iMac 5K "27" ca(2017) - nothing special. I think it doesn't much matter which new iMac you wanna buy. Just with 16GB ram and bigger storage 512gb min.
I used Rhino 0:07 on a Windows computer for 15 years with tremendous enjoyment and satisfaction in a professional jewelry design capacity. Wonderful program. You get the feeling that it’s always right out there in front of you making life easier. But when I left the company all I had at home was my Mac mini that I use for logic pro audio. So I bought the Mac version of rhino. Just been a terrible and frustrating experience. Basically compared to Windows the Mac version is unintuitive, difficult to learn, very different, it sucks basically, I give up and bought a PC.
I use Rhino Mac as a Viewer and limited editing, I use Rhino + Parallels so I have Plugins working (BUT a few of my plugins WILL NOT WORK under a virtual Enviroment) So then I turn to a SAMSUNG 1TB External Drive and BootCamp and then ALL my Plugins work, The same applies to SoiidWorks, NX and Catia that I use in exactly the same way, For anyones information I also use SpaceClaim from ANSYS because it Will READ and WRITE .3DM Files (Excellent) That my quick take, I use all 3 MAC/Parallels and BootCamp
Great video. My daughter begins studying Landscape Architecture at Penn State University in 2 weeks. Do all of your comments pertain to Landscape work? The video suggest to me that it absolutely does, but I am a surgeon, not an architect, so I am clueless about the subject and don't want to make a mistake. Thank you.
Better? Interesting, but several caveats are needed in late 2024. Architects are an important Rhino user group, but they're not the *only* user group. The comparison has a bias to architecture as evidenced by number of points made mainly relevant to architects. OS-A great deal will depend on one's existing familiarity with an operating system. A relatively unimportant thing on Mac like dark mode is flagged as a positive, but integration with Time Machine is not. Only one OS is built on a UNIX-class, with a foundation that is open source. Price Performance Ratio-Since 2021, more plug-in have been made available for the Mac. Also since 2021, Apple began their switch to RISC chips and in 2024, certainly with the Mac Mini M4, the price-performance comparison has reversed. We may expect the M4 chip to be used in other models and for the three-nanometre process to improve further. When I started with Rhino for Mac v5, I used to segregate instructional videos between Mac and Windows, but as the versions are so similar, this was unnecessary. Mac users benefit from 20 years of development on Windows; McNeel accomplished a great deal in porting Rhino to Mac and gaining a larger market.
From the Rhino forum: If you are in the market for a new lap top to run rhino. Most importantly, Look for one with a standalone video card. Specifically an nvidia or amd. More vram and more rendering cores (cuda cores) are better. Mac users should be looking at a Silicon M1. Rhino 7 on the MBP M1 Max has really really bad performance... if i add more details to my model it becomes super laggy, its still not even very complex geometry... my old windows laptop didnt work anymore so i decided on a mbp and am very disappointed... almost not usable for work. Just as a warning for people in a similiar situation
That is why i bought macbookpro 2020 w/intel when m1 released. Intel far more optimised. It’s shame m1 max is a beast but not working as well as 10th gen 4 core intel…
@@berkinerengurman1401 my workaround right now is to use wip rhino8, which has metal support. This one has an expected very good performance, but of course if very buggy since It is a wip version.
I have Rhino on mac for free, but I will install windows on my mac to use more software since most of the rendering softwares work best on windows but now should I pay for Rhino to run it on the windows? 🥲

Hi DeWayne, do you use the plugin VisualArq through parallels? thanks
for both animation & 3dmodelling the PC was always the developers target ... For image processing, mobiles, Ipad etc and Asshole smartness use Mac

just thinking of rhino for mac as the m1 macs are trending these days.

Yeah, some things changed since 2021. We'll make an updated video soon :)
Excellent review.....its REALLY annoying that so few Grasshopper add-ons work for macOS.
Yep, unfortunately that's the case.
So if I do a Windows bootcamp on a Intel Macbook, there should not be a problem?
Yep :)
Rhino for LINUX please!
Great suggestion 👌
Hey guys
I am confused, Should I buy MacBook Air M1 for Jewelry design and rendering purposes?
Same here
There is ladybug and honeybee tools for mac, I use them for both, however the mac version is limited.
Rhino is compatible with m1 silicon chip i wanna to buy it but i am really confused????
No, its not
R7 It is full compatible with M1
I run it in my M1 air and it works perfectly.
Is it good to use rhino on mac m1 pro?? Which setup should i buy??

I run rhino on my M1 MacBook Air and it works perfectly. On a M1 pro it would be amazing
How much of the memory would you allocate to Windows when utilizing bootcamp on a Mac?
These are recommended values, but you should definitely test them and see what works best for your system: www.rhino3d.com/7/system-requirements/

You didn’t say anything other that run away from Mac, no details as to why. You have to make an argument and follow through a proper explenation
Never mind, my video started at the end of the video, lol
Glad it worked out in the end :D
Rhino Windows is better
Is more comfortably
Rhino for Linux please :(
Wrong regarding price performance with the M1 Macs - they are cheaper and more performant.
If you're looking at 13", yes, they are great. I personally can't work on 13" though :)
Agreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Happy to hear that! :)
Un Mac es completamente inútil para el diseño con Rhino, y ni hablar de Revit.
