Julie, I'm so sorry for you that you Had to go this way with your dog. I know this is such a hard and difficult dicision.😢 And a dog is not only a dog, it is a family member, a friend. All the best to you🍀
I saw a quote from Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain.. "Grief is the price we pay for love." I think that is very true no matter family or friend. Our precious pets are companions, good listeners and can cheer us on those difficult days. I'm sad for you and your family. So many of us know and understand your feelings. ❤
I am in the process of setting up a business to encourage everyone to buy items that are repurposed and restored. For people who appreciate and understand the value of preloved high-quality stuff. @JulieKhuu, your episode gives me the confidence that I am on the right path. In a world where we have so much, the best thing is to reduce the carbon footprint and embrace beautiful artifacts that can be loved again!😍
I started watching your videos when I was trying to re-decor my room may be 2-3 years ago. I asked for advices in comment and you replied me with suggestions. Now-a-days I mainly watch to support you. Also learning something new is always beneficial.
Thank you so much for noticing Jeanne-Marie! We really do spend a ton of time sourcing, which is SO important to me as a creative sharing inspiration ☺️🙏💖
Bless your dogs soul, and thank you for opening up and sharing your world. That’s such a tough decision to make so thank you because I appreciate your honesty ❤
Love your vids. I'm an artist and I just recently started putting my own paintings around the house. Everyone I knew was asking me where is all of my art ??? I would take them to the basement where my studio is. They would say...WHY???? LOL. I retired 2 years ago, and I am finally displaying my own art in each room and I am loving it. It makes me happy to see my art and pics of family and good times had in each room as well. I love the curated look and I love antiques. I can honestly say the best advice I've heard thus far is to not follow trends. Same with clothing. You do you is a great motto. Collect timeless quality clothing, jewelry and decor items and you'll love it all always.
When we re-did our master bath, we bought our one piece stone double sink in a discount store. It had a tiny ding in it in an imperceptible spot. My attitude was, “Good, now I don’t have to cry, when one of us dings it!” 😮
You are keeping it REAL - Thanks a ton. *As long as we can organize what we bring inside our homes our houses are designed to be called home* We threw many objects that we liked at a certain point, but when the house started weighing on it, we trashed it - our huge walls are now bare and beautiful. ♥ the lighting of the spaces with architectural elements. Silently LOUD
Hi Julie, I have just found your channel. Thanks for keeping it real and fresh. Lately I've been searching for interior design content and I'm happy to say I have found the one.
I am so sorry to hear you had to go through this with your dog! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Your family is beautiful. I love what you said about overlooking the little scratches or dings on your furniture and enjoy the memories. ❤
Couldn’t agree more. Now I have moved in to my new home. I believe that we need to keep blank walls too. I have minimalist look too. I love it. Very modern look. Keep things simple is my key. I love keep the space cohesive and concentrating more on colour xx We truly are evolving.
I’m minimal when it comes to spaces that need my brain working overtime (like my home office). Other than that, the common areas in my home are alive with color, pattern, layers and a ton of plants! 💚
Hi Julie so sorry for you all at the loss of your pet. It’s always soo difficult. Thank you for your vlog. It’s a while since I’ve watched you as life gets in the way, and changing my iPad didn’t help as I lost a few of my favourites, you being one of them. You are always so beautiful and your children are too. You are right about trends, I’ve stopped following them, it’s not only expensive but I used to get soo mixed up. I’m older and my kids come to stay when they can with my grandchildren, as my husband and I live in Spain and most of the family are in England. I like them to feel free and enjoy our time together. I used to get uptight if something was broken or marked, but I now know that family and friends are more important than furniture etc. like you I love mixing old with new and it’s nice not to be to precious about stuff. I love your home it’s beautiful. Thank you once again. Xx 😘
Uhuuuu we are going to have a whole series of videos 🙌🏼 I couldn’t agree more with don’t try to keep everything perfect otherwise would make everyone uncomfortable even to visit our home because everything is too ‘precious’ I don’t bother as well Home tour ohhh yes please 🥰🥰🥰 Thank you so much ❤😘
I remember visiting my “rich” auntie’s home way back then, you couldn’t even sit down in the formal parlor, she had all the furniture wrapped 😂 That is not the vibe I want for my guests
So sorry for your loss! We did the same when our dog got very old and sick. This video was very inspiring though! I so agree on old furniture. There is so much beauty and quality, but can be even cheaper than IKEA. We all want good design advice but in the end make our space like we prefer, even if some of the items we own and treasure may break some rules. Thanks for a nice video.
We have the same soffits at our home (we’re also in a MCM). The living room has really soft lighting on the oak wood ceilings. It’s beautiful. We went around other areas and added in hue up lighting and down lighting. It transformed our space and we always get compliments when new people come over for the first time. I’m also very sorry to hear about your dog! I hope your family is healing well! 💖
So sorry to hear about your furbaby! Sad news. They're totally part of the family. Yes, to the home tour. Love the light on the beams, and I would be obsessed with the beams, too. They are gorgeous! A big plant or two would be great up there as well.
You… Me… Same! It’s uncanny to hear someone remind me so much of my mom and myself all at the same time. I live my life utilizing most of these tips in more than just home design since they were drilled into my psyche at an early age. So thank you for sharing. You just brought a small portion of my mother and her indelible teachings come alive again.
Love this series! We are remodeling, adding on, and raising the roof to 10’ on our AZ patio home. The house told me how to redraw the floor plan into 2 en-suite bedrooms and a powder room. Thank you for the encouragement to trust my own design instincts. Our goal for this next step is to re-use what we can, and do as much of the work ourselves as possible including crafting kitchen cabinetry 😊
Thank you for this video! It helps relieve some of my anxiety of trying to do it all perfectly and needing a designer that I can't really afford. I get so confused sometimes partially because my house is a 100 year old Arts and Crafts home. My home is so traditional, but I have been trying to figure out how to make it more (contemporary) transitional and update it. I just can't quite figure out how to do it without spending a ton of money. Watching this video has inspired me to go to the consignment furniture stores and maybe just do it. A video on changing an older home from traditional and updating it would be very helpful.
I’m sorry for your dog. ❤ I like how you make interior design a way of express our inner self from inside out. It brings joy and calm. I leave in a student appartment and and I am a single mom working and studying . I now reorganizing my home to recover better from lot of stress and get my energy higher. I decided to keep in my living room my musical instruments (piano, guitar and sello), a beautiful plant, the books that inspires me, a work desk and other furniture that I like. Got rid of a lot of junk. No TV for years and that works for me :) Your channel inspires me and I believe is one the key for get my energy back ❤ Merci Julie!
Thank you Barbara! I’m finishing up my primary bedroom makeover + the girl’s room then I’m lining up a LIVED-IN home tour right after that!! Ahh so excited, can’t wait to show it all! 🤗💕
I have watched a gazillion closet makeover creators and you top them all by a landslide. You’re so upbeat and never have to pause to think about what to say. Just love your channel and you. From a 5’1 62 yr old to another petite. Keep doing you.
Absolutely love your home!! I really like Tip #5 don't take anyone advice in decorating. I can so relate to this. After building our home we had a certain person just want to take over my home and decorate it for me. Now this neighbor gossips to others that my light fixtures are to big for my 10 foot ceilings in my kitchen. Also I don't feel it necessary to clutter my walls either. ❤ Thank you for your advice videos. I appreciate that you enjoy modern design as I do as well
Julie, thank you for #4. Sometimes I feel like I can get so caught up in cleaning up after my toddler’s toys but then remember he’s a toddler and this is real life not a magazine photoshoot. I saw a quote that said, “ one day you’re going to miss the toys on the ground and the fingerprints on the windows.” Also, I am so sorry for your loss I know she lived a long fabulous life. 🐾
Oh I love that quote! I have to remind myself that the pile of dishes, loads of laundry, toys all over the house can wait! It’s the time I take to do meaningful things with my family that will live on in our hearts 💗
I had a blank wall at the side of my bed but just for one year. I would rather leave it blank than just putting anything up for no other reason than to fill the space.
I know the feels. I had a brand new table and chairs set with white cushions, thanksgiving dinner, my nephew promptly broke in my set with chocolate or gravy or something. 😂 I was happy to have my family around. My sis was pretty upset though. Lol
I would love to hear from you what is the best way of arranging the space under the stairs. I am currently in a mental process of DIYing it for bikes&stuff storage. I think it would be great for awkward spaces series 😊
You're definitely right about changing design preferences over time. I used to like white on white and minimalist design ,then evolve with modern organic because of the influence of trends. but now i realized, that I really love the retro vintage mix with rustic design. dark hues and organic materials like expose bricks, natural wood, velvet, leather, and mix metals. I think it's always in my blood because I always love the idea of a man with a nice tux lounging with a cigar and wine in his hands and with jazz music playing.😂 And... Yes to home tour❤.
Thanks so much for doing this video, Julie! I love your channel. My biggest problem at the moment is my living room is too long. There is only one wall that the large tv fits on and we need the couch to be somewhat close enough to it I order to watch tv. But that leaves a good 6 feet behind the couch to fill space and it’s awkward. I have a bookcase there now but it still looks weird.
Is it 6ft then a wall? Or 6ft then walkway? If wall only, I would place a wide console against the wall to create another focal point. You may add symmetrical table lamps/ wall sconces and center a large statement art piece in-between. If walkway, then I would place a sofa table behind the sofa and maybe some decorative accessories, books, or a tray to corral clutter.
Would love to see a video on home renovation, me and my husband bought a complete fixer-upper we are fixing everything ourselves and I love watching your videos :)
My family recently moved into a new…but very old house. It was a home that has been in my husbands family for something like 200 years. I’m having a LOT of trouble decorating/designing because my husband wants to retain the historical aspects of the home while still making it our own. There’s tons of Victorian wallpaper that he doesn’t want to take down (different in every room) and he doesn’t want to hang anything on the walls because it will damage this wallpaper. So I don’t know what to do about curtains/drapes, mirrors, pictures/art. And there’s not any closets except in the master suite. So storage is a headache. And some of the strange room shapes with AT LEAST 2 doors and windows for EVERY room and having to place furniture around radiators makes achieving good feng shui very complicated. If you did a video on how to manage updating an older house without completely remodeling I’d find that very interesting.
I must say that I had tears of empathy when I heard about your dog. I know what a sense of loss is experienced when loosing a pet. I couldn’t agree more with every point that you made. It was so validating because so much design now does not reflect cherished personal items that have been included in a living space to give it character. Thank you for your perspectives. It’s always good to be able to hear the ideas of accomplished individuals who are willing to share their knowledge. I am curious if many of your examples are spaces that you have designed. It would be such an enjoyable video to watch to see your designed spaces and how they have evolved over the years.
Thank you so much Doane. I do pepper in some of my own designs in these illustrative videos, but most of these spaces are designed by others which I’ve credited in the upper corners of each image ☺️
First, I am so sorry for your loss. I just had to put two dogs to rest recently. So my heart is still broken. As to your design advice. I’m very confident in how I design and if someone, my kids, don’t like it - that doesn’t bother me because I like it and that’s what matters. Listening to your advice and seeing different designers do things idoes give me ideas and it helps my style to evolve. Recently, I have been creating negative floor space. I do like artwork on my walls. Please just keep putting videos out there for us to enjoy! ❤
Apartment living is my space, and so many units are being built now . I have watched you for quite a while and after living in my 1 bedroom apt decided to make it more personel. With written permission from leasing manager. I have replaced the outdated kitchen facet and light fixture. In the bathroom .Painted walls white. Replaced sink facet, hardware, shower fixture, and added new lighting. I have purchased a new bed and sofa. Everything else is from Rose Bowl Flea market Salvation Army or thrift store and tag sales. I can really appreciate all your advice and have implemented alot of your guidance in every way .Home is Pasadena for passed 54 years and the big bonus in my place is I am on 4 th floor with mountain view. Any other small living space advice ?????? Beautiful Family bless you.
Hi Julie. I am so sorry to learn about your dog. I had to do the same thing, so I know your pain. Things will get better. I just discovered your channel and have been binge watching all day. Love it and have subscribed.
So sorry about the puppy!!!! Interesting points made here, and may I say, stunning teal distressed credenza with coral sofa......I have a thatched roof tiki bar in my Manhattan apt., so you know I never listen to anyone, ha ha. Just gorgeous content, Ms. Khuu...really, you embody beauty!!!!
Hi Julie, I love love your videos! Do you have anything on how to transform a dated sliding patio door? We have those old slide shades that need to go! Looking for some inspiration.
I’ve just suffered a personal loss myself, recently. I always find refuge in art and design. I’m in the process of painting my lower kitchen cabinets Behr’s high gloss Carbon black. It’s a hack for dark colors, using a high gloss finish. It keeps the light reflective, so it’s not AS dark if available light is around. It really makes it pop. Alternatively, using matte finish in dark colors, it makes what you put in front of it, pop.
Sorry for the loss of your fur baby. They are such a part of our family. I have been updating/renovating my home for the past year. Now i am in the middle of a kitchen remodel. I like the way your home has changed over the years as your family has grown. I am now thoughtful about aging in place designs. I am also decluttering. Love all your videos and ideas.
I’m so sorry for the loss of your dog. I had to make that heartbreaking decision earlier this year for my dog Samson. I like listening to your expert advice/opinions. Thank you
I have a question about upgrading my cookie cutter new construction by addressing the ceiling. When is it just right and when is it too much in a ranch home where every room needs to be contiguous with the room next door
I don’t believe that every rooms NEEDS to be cohesive. That is a design decision that only you can make. I like every space to look and feel different, but that’s just me.
Hi Julie I would love the tour of your house video I cannot wait for it. Also yes I want to decorate two very high walls in my living room and in my bedroom. I am excited about the new series of videos. :-)
Julie….you are looking so pretty….love the red on you and your skin is perfection….the marks on furniture don’t bother me now that I am a grandmother…they are just lovin marks…thank you for your advise and your sweet disposition…hugs carolyn from Columbus ga…..all of my friends have white everything and I LOVE red….can you please show rooms with color….Thankyou again
Great idea for a series. I want to know how you shop for large rugs. The headache of returning such a large piece (if it doesn't work) has had me in analysis paralysis for over a year now.
I'm currently obsessing on your videos as i currently hav my house build and my lighting and tiles with so much option i dont know what to choose...thanks hope you can help m choos my kitchen tiles between choices i have.
Thanks, these ideas are very helpful. I wonder if you would consider timestamps on your description to guide us to the specific parts of your topics. Thanks again!
I would like to see a new tour of your home and how it has evolved Julie. And my condolences on the loss of your beloved pet. That is so hard to go through.
I’m wondering how to pick wallpaper when there are so many great ones, for to pick a neutral color that isn’t dull and also how to use wallpaper in an open floor plan. Loved seeing ur personal Style in this video?
I would like some advice on how to make a whole home feel cohesive but not too monotonous. I am redoing my first condo and want to balance a seamless style across the entire home while also preserving my eclectic sensibilities.
Julie, I'm so sorry for you that you Had to go this way with your dog. I know this is such a hard and difficult dicision.😢 And a dog is not only a dog, it is a family member, a friend. All the best to you🍀
Thank you so much Susanne. It’s been rough, but the memories are so vivid they definitely help my heart heal 🙏🤍

Interior design is typically a heavily wasteful industry unfortunately. Whatever we can do to repurpose and reuse, we should 🙌

I listen to your professional opinion and advice. I like your personality!
Thank you for watching and supporting the channel Wendy! 🙏☺️
I would love to hear from you what is the best way of arranging the space under the stairs. I am currently in a mental process of DIYing it for bikes&stuff storage. I think it would be great for awkward spaces series 😊
This WOULD be a fantastic topic for the awkward space series! I love it!! Thank you for the inspiration 🙌💗
I have an entire series dedicated to budget renovations Emma- it’s called DATED HOME DESIGNS, check out the playlist! ☺️👍
@@JulieKhuu thank you so much!!! Gonna watch right now 🥰
My family recently moved into a new…but very old house. If you did a video on how to manage updating an older house without completely remodeling I’d find that very interesting.
so many great photos and inspo in this video, thanks!
Thank you for watching Bridgette! 💗🙏
love the vanity what a great idea!❤
I love this! She just keeps it real 😊
Thank you so much for watching 🙏💝
Beautiful video. Thank you. You’re the best!
Thank you for watching Jeri 🙏☺️
I love that your home is “lived in”!!! Sure a home that is picture perfect looks beautiful but I want to live in my home as well.
It’s picture perfect for 5 minutes right before guests arrive. Then it’s game over 🙅🏼♀️🤣
Love the lighting suggestions. Unique suggestion!!!
Thank you! Hope they help your challenging conditions 💡
Yes, a tour of your house!
You got it Susan! Thank you for watching ☺️🙏
Your home is beautiful, my dear! Thank you for your channel and your advice ❤
Thank you for watching Irina 🙏☺️
Great video!!! love that you say to just be confident and do it!!! I would love to see your home tour.
Confidence comes when you stop asking for advice 😉
First, I am so sorry for your loss. I just had to put two dogs to rest recently. So my heart is still broken.
As to your design advice. I’m very confident in how I design and if someone, my kids, don’t like it - that doesn’t bother me because I like it and that’s what matters. Listening to your advice and seeing different designers do things idoes give me ideas and it helps my style to evolve. Recently, I have been creating negative floor space. I do like artwork on my walls.
Please just keep putting videos out there for us to enjoy! ❤
Thank you for watching! Negative space allows our eyes to travel on land on the important details ☺️

Hi Julie. I am so sorry to learn about your dog. I had to do the same thing, so I know your pain. Things will get better. I just discovered your channel and have been binge watching all day. Love it and have subscribed.
Thank you so much for your kindness and support Sandra 🫶🏻 She was my last rescue before having babies, such a doll 🐶
Paradise found Mary! Your apartment sounds like the perfect spot for happy hour 🍹💆🏼♀️😍
Great video, thanks for posting. Anyone know what is that metal divider across the dining table @2:05?
Dang, y’all got some eagle eyes! For the love of design, that’s awesome 🙌
Hi Julie, I love love your videos! Do you have anything on how to transform a dated sliding patio door? We have those old slide shades that need to go! Looking for some inspiration.
Yes, check out my videos on window treatments- I also link my favorite resources
I had to give my puppers an opportunity to rest this week as well. Feeling all the feels with you 💞
Oh babe 🙏🏻🕊️🤍 I’m so sorry for your loss. May the memories heal our hearts 💕
Exactly, it’s all about intentional contrast 🔳🔲
Yea I would love to see you beautiful home’s character!!!!!!❤️
You got it Claire! I love this house, it’s taken me a minute, but I can’t wait to share 🤗
Purging is always the first step. Organizing is second. Get those two down and you’re well on your way to your dream home Richard! 🙌
I’m so sorry for the loss of your dog. I had to make that heartbreaking decision earlier this year for my dog Samson. I like listening to your expert advice/opinions. Thank you
Thank you so much Marcella. Time heals all wounds and the memories live on 🕊️🤍🙏🏻
I have a question about upgrading my cookie cutter new construction by addressing the ceiling. When is it just right and when is it too much in a ranch home where every room needs to be contiguous with the room next door
I don’t believe that every rooms NEEDS to be cohesive. That is a design decision that only you can make. I like every space to look and feel different, but that’s just me.
From one Jules to another…..great video!❤
Thank you for watching Jules! 💗🙏
Hello Julie, can you also create a topic about aquarium, good and bad loc? Thank you. Looking for more. 🎉🎉🎉

Great idea for a series. I want to know how you shop for large rugs. The headache of returning such a large piece (if it doesn't work) has had me in analysis paralysis for over a year now.
I have a few videos on area rugs including shopping and sourcing tips - check them out 👍☺️

Thanks, these ideas are very helpful. I wonder if you would consider timestamps on your description to guide us to the specific parts of your topics. Thanks again!
Thank you for watching Maggie! I used to add them, but I felt it reduced user experience when people skipped over important parts 🤔
I would like to see a new tour of your home and how it has evolved Julie.
And my condolences on the loss of your beloved pet. That is so hard to go through.
I’m working on this video now. It’ll be a good one! Thank you for watching 🙏☺️

I would like some advice on how to make a whole home feel cohesive but not too monotonous. I am redoing my first condo and want to balance a seamless style across the entire home while also preserving my eclectic sensibilities.
Great video. Please do how to design a blank slate ( living room edition)
I have a 10-episode series on how to create your dream space, developed specifically for blank canvases 👍☺️
