@elfrjz Modern men's clothing generally has big pockets to accommodate newer phones, though women's don't so they are forced to use bags to carry them (nothing new here though). From what I've seen, it's more of a general thing that everything there is big. Meal sizes are big, roads are big/wide, cars are big (many people buy huge SUVs for no reason), houses are big etc. People love their big stuff over there, it seems.
Also, you literally said in a previous comment that you're in Indonesia, so an educated guess is that you're a national, lol.

Flagship smartphones at this point are becoming more and more of a niche segment because of rising prices & features 80-90% of users can't really take advantage of. Mid-range & upper mid-range segment is where it's at.

whenever im getting a flagship smartphone i tend to keep it for couple of years before upgrading.
I've been using the OP 7 Pro for almost 4 years now and it still runs like a champ.
now im looking for an upgrade that im prolly keeping for longer since the hardware has gotten alot better. as long as im not upgrading annually I'd say the price is definitely worth it.

On Android side agreed. Exception is Apple devices where the Flagship market of “pro” iPhones is well marketed as a status symbol and as such has strong user base. Some people buy high fashion clothing and others are buying the most expensive iPhones.

I don't see anything that's crazy or impressive about this phone at all. This video is a standard sponsored ad, disguised as a video about how "crazy" smartphone hardware has gotten... But there is absolutely nothing unique or revolutionary about this phone. It's the exact same as the past 8 years of smartphones, with just very incremental upgrades due to slight upgrades in hardware over time. MKHBD is just giving you an ad here that makes this phone sound like it's a big upgrade over others by comparing it to phones from 8 years ago, as if this one is the one to suddenly make that 8 year jump to the hardware it has now lmao.

But in a phone like this, where they invested in leather for the back to improve feeling, I wonder why they wouldn't just raise everything to camera level (as a cover/case would anyway) and increase battery size.

It's amazing how far phone cameras have come hardware wise. Having several cameras available for wide angle up to (low) telephoto shots adds a lot of versatility and I love that a 1" sensor is no longer an extreme feature on a prototype, but something you can get with several regular flagship phones.
At the same time, it feels like software has taken a wrong turn at some point. Just take a look at samples from the Nokia 808. That's a more than ten year old phone with not even a 1" sensor. Yet, in good conditions it produces an amount of detail and nuance that you just cannot get with any modern phone. It's like the Concorde, a technology from the past that was - in some aspects - more advanced than anything we have today. And I think reviewers are partly to blame for this development.
Very early smartphones with tiny sensors had a lot of issues with dynamic range, where brighter parts of the images (like the sky) would just turn white if you wanted to expose the foreground correctly. So reviews often looked at how much detail was visible in both the darkest and the brightest parts of the image, which was a good measure for dynamic range.
Nowadays, the larger and much more advanced sensors don't have that problem anymore, they have plenty of dynamic range for almost all situations. But reviewers are still fixated on this same issue, taking pictures of a black cat against the blazing sun and expecting to see detail of both the cat's fur and all the currents and flares on the sun's surface at the same time. Phone manufacturers have responded to that demand, making dark parts of the image brighter and bright parts darker by combining several differently exposed shots taken in short succession. This is sometimes (incorrectly) called HDR imaging or more accurately tone mapping.
The immediate result of this process is a loss of contrast, it's the intended effect. This can be a good thing in situations with too much contrast, like the black cat in front of the sun. But there can also be too little contrast if the tone mapping is overdone. The sun will no longer look blazingly bright, it will be muted like on a slightly overcast day. And the shiny black fur of the cat will look greyish and dull. You need a few really white and a few really black parts in the image for it to look right, but some reviewers have repeatedly portrayed this as a fault because they could no longer make out all the details in these parts.
The other reason why tone mapping is bad outside of a few high-contrast situations is that it's just not that refined yet, at least when left completely to software. We still get lots of really nasty artifacts like halos that you can't unsee once you start looking for them. Or look at samples with fine tree branches in front of a bright sky, many algorithms will produce all kind of weird spots and blotches there. And over all, there's a loss of nuances like different shades of blue, white and yellow in the evening sky. They tend to be all brought to the same level of uniform blue that often just looks fake.
I really wish phone manufacturers would use the great hardware to its full potential, but right now over processing and badly implemented "computational photography" is ruining the image quality.

I remember when we were LUCKY to get 8 hours on a single charge on a smartphone. NOW we'd be taking it back to the manufacturer for a defective model. Sometimes lineation (the slow phasing out of products) makes us forget how much progress has been made in the technological world. I think we're pretty close to holographic displays being unveiled in the next 20 years.

I don't mind big camera bumps.. the last feature phone I owned was a Sony Ericsson K800i, with a camera that was kind of insane for it's time.

you know what would be funny.... we will get a one point where we measure LED panels not in nits but in lumens and then we start get in the "dubious" territory having phones blaring out 10000 lumens on amazon and ebay

I really liked that leather era of phones, now everything has to be a glass sandwich with sharp metal rails, my favorite phone designs were the LG G4, and the iPhone 5c, both phones were not going for a premium feel but they both felt incredibly premium and beautiful in their own way, I would love to see more "unapologetically plastic" phones in the future lol just imagine a 15 pro Max with the same design as the 5c unibody plastic
