Bobby Knight coached MJ while he destroyed a nba all star team several games in a roll. Coach Knight was the first person to say MJ was the GOAT. I don’t know why people don’t know that since it’s probably the greatest accomplishment of all time.
The way coach Knight just states the obvious..."because he was just better". No need for some bombastic explanation, no need to reel off Jordans credentials. He was just better! Everybody who knows basketball, knows Jordan is the GOAT...
I agree with this and I think it also applies with quarterbacks here lately in this world where they can now chase rings, statpad, etc. Some quarterbacks are just better than Brady because they’re just better.
Frostshokula Might be a little rough, but no, James is not as good as Jordan. Not as good as Chamberlain. In my opinion, not as good as Tim Duncan. Not as good as Dr J. We could go on, but the point is made, I think. None of this is intended to insult James, he is an excellent basketball player, but not GOAT. Not, in my opinion, in the top five, and I would have to spend some extra time, but maybe, not top ten.
corbin mcnabb I put Larry Bird ahead of Lebron. Also not intended to insult Lebron. I feel like when I hear ppl get offended when I say that, it feels like they are disrespecting Larry Legend.
Frostshokula Bird was a better shooter and better rebounder, so I think you may be right on that. Haven't done a detailed look, to be honest. Barkley, in an interview with Patrick said his top five were Jordan, Robertson, Chamberlain, Russell, and Jabbar, in some order. Not a bad list. In either case, I think we are agreed that Lebron is not GOAT. Not all that close. Good, to be sure, but no.
Being an Indiana boy (born there) I would have to agree with the General on his assessment. Jordan is the best to have played the game; so many abilities and drive, lifted his team. Russell is the most valuable; he won more titles and was a force in the league for a long time, and he tamed Wilt Chamberlin. And Red Auerbach was a wizard as a coach and GM; built some of the best teams ever. Good to see Bobby Knight in a calm and sane moment, he does know his stuff.
Knight's experience with Jordan on the Olympic team was what I suspect he expected before hand after having seen him perform on the college stage and in fact defeating him in '84 in the NCAA tournament on his way to his third NCAA title. He was somewhat close to Dean Smith in the coaching fraternity always expressing great respect for Smith, so knowing what a meticulous teacher of basketball Smith was Knight had to know Jordan would be well prepared for international competition. Jordan himself has credited Smith's coaching as the catalyst to making him the great player he became. Smith by the way beat the legendary Adolf Rupp like a drum in head to head games eventually surpassing Rupp's 876 wins ending with 879. Smith was a liberal icon in this very conservative southern state. But you can be damn sure that Dean Smith was a god down here and always will be. In my part of the state we're all Tar Heels. Its near Wilmington where MJ is from.
@@paulsilas9070 yeah Kareem set records that will never be broken in the NBA, but so did Michael Jordan. No player will ever win 10 scoring titles in todays NBA like MJ did. “Smarter, tougher, and won more.” Jordan not only had the physical ability, his work ethic was second to none. Combine that with a pathological desire to win, and you have the best. Mind you, I think the greatest athlete to play the game was Wilt Chamberlain.

It's not a conversation. Jordan was by far the best player ever. And if you have to give the most simple reason as to why it's because he had no weaknesses. People seem to forget how fundamentally sound Jordan was led by the tutelage of Dean Smith. He was also ridiculously efficient. Now some say he wasn't a great 3pt shooter but that's because he could dominate without taking threes. The other thing is when Jordan had off shooting nights he would casually have 17 rebounds or do other things to help his team win. He was as good a clutch player as we 've ever seen and defensively could guard 4 positions well. He was also smarter and a better competitor than LeBron.
This is why Michael Jordan was different from all other NBA players! We see everyone speaking highly of him, including in high school! Different from the others, Kobe, Lebron, Magic, Bird, Shaq... MJ was the best in his era, and he would be the best for sure! We really miss you at the games, the NBA has lost its charm! the stadiums have more advertising than talent!!!
