"I don't want any laws around guns"
"I'd agree on making people who buy firearms have training"
That's a law my guy
Not a law on guns per say but it’s a law on gun owners. It wouldn’t make it illegal to own a gun, just that you would have to take a class too
@@lakerfan0243 and what would happen if gun owners didn't take the class in your hyperthetical?
@@lawrencehaynes6408 A fine? I don’t know. But it doesn’t preclude a person from first purchasing the guns. Either way, like all gun laws, it’s ultimately meaningless because we already have 330 million+ GUNS estimated to be in the US, and making people take a class or anything like that won’t stop criminals (aka the ones who actually use guns to murder people or rob people) from getting these guns.
@@lakerfan0243 so even if they do get a fine, there's going to be an electronic record of this. And in another scenario, what happens if this individual decides to purchase more guns? Do they need to take a new class each time or is it a one time only? How would they track that you've taken one class? If no record, do they just make a badge or something to represent that you've taken it? What's stopping someone from forging this?
It's much simpler to just have records of sale and I agree with Destiny to make this electronically available. Just because people know what weapon you have, it doesn't compromise your ability to defend yourself. Either way you'll need to train with it.
Also, not saying this is your stance Lakerfan, just making random scenarios in my head.
@@burnerbuner4117 I mean I disagree. A central gun registration could be assembled by the government if such information were made to be recorded electronically. People act like it’s “crazy” to think that our government could potentially become tyrannical, but many nations thought that too, *and then it happened* . If a government has a record of who has what guns, that makes it far easier to confiscate guns in the event of a tyrannical takeover.
What have governments done shortly before becoming tyrannical and committing mass murder of their own citizens? Answer: They found and took away all guns.
Any law that makes it easier for the government to know who has what guns, would ultimately make it FAR easier for the federal government to confiscate guns and become tyrannical. (And no, it wouldn’t be impossible to fight back like Biden has claimed. In the even of our government becoming tyrannical, there would likely be a *large portion* of BOTH military and police that would side with the people over the government).
Lastly, I fail to see *how having a gun purchase registry would have stopped any of these mass shootings given the fact that* 1. The shooter either LEGALLY had the gun 2. The shooter illegally had the gun by stealing it or being given it by a friend, parent, etc 3. The FBI KNEW about the person both having a gun and being a potential threat to others, BUT the FBI failed to act and prevent a mass shooting.
So, yeah, I’m not sure how Destiny or anyone else can try and say that a registry would’ve stopped these mass shootings.
Aaaah so refreshing to have political content and not drama for once.
Fucking true
Substantive debate instead of looney tunes
I think it's because Destiny often leans more liberal so naturally the people who are debating him are more centrist or right leaning and those people are much more open to conversation. A guy like Crowder would sit down with the opposite view on gun control and people would be outraged instead of sitting down and having a conversation. That's just my observation.

The premise I build off is most humans tend to use the most efficient tools we have always innovated. So blaming guns ignores the issue with essentially everything and that’s humanity.
It’s just lazy too. Let’s solve none of the underlying societal and economic problems, while hurting lots of people who just want a tool to protect themselves and their families. Typical elites, they just want the easiest action that’ll keep themselves in power. I also don’t understand how the left swaps between so anti cop to super pro cop when gun control is brought up. Can we just appreciate destiny stepping into the college debate scene with integrity. I don't agree with destiny on some stuff but unlike Steven and other people who have done this format they always come with a book of fact check. I really appreciate destiny never doing this for a got you but to show how to have a conversation when you disagree. He has always said college is the place for debates and the fact he does it in the way he does really shows he is doing it for the conversation and not just the views.
I actually think having a book of fact checks is a good thing, if someone starts trying to feed you bs, you need to have the knowledge to shut them down so they can give you a better argument with actual facts
@@RenegadeSpider2 You can simultaneously do that without a book though. Alot of these "gotcha" facts or quotes that frequent these books that OP was talking about are simply that, they're "gotcha" moments. They are not there to have a discussion, nor are they there to actually provide greater insight/validity to the conversation.
the thing is if a lot of these people act like they got you in the argument if you cant immediately cite your source, as seen in John Doyles most recent video.
It can be really expensive and really difficult to build a functioning and repeating gun at home. I've watched a 3D gun competition and the number of malfunctions was crazy high. The builds can be expensive because people can't really build most of the mechanisms at home easily, like the barrel and receiver.
It can be, yes, but that shouldn't discourage law abiding citizens from owning one should they want to buy one.
Seriously, big props to Destiny's commitment to handle each conversation in a fairly non-confrontational way.
Dude at 38:00 came in a little worked up and Steven didn't change his style of conversation at all.

48:25 That is how the ATF works right now, records only get submitted to the ATF if the gun store does not have the means of storing their own records. When an investigation happens, generally the ATF will see a list of serial numbers were wholesaled to a gun store, then the gun store is called for a record of who he sold it too.
Loving these discussions.
Why don’t you marry them?
People can’t fathom anyone not being fully pro or anti something these days.

we in Australia were seeing a reduction in gun crime before the gun buy back that trend continued.
after the buy back we saw a spike in knife crime but that was still within the overall reduction in valent crime at the time.
Connecticut, Washington, New Jersey, Massachusetts and I think some other states have legislation so gun safes are sold tax free and I think its incredibly based and should be implemented in all 50.
The only issue with having to keep my gun in a gun safe and in some states your ammunition in a separate safe is if a guy is kicking my door in the middle of the night do I have time to run over to the safe undo the safe pull up my weapon assemble my weapon go to the other safe get my ammunition load my gun and get back to the assailant before he's done raping my dog?
@@robertstone9988 all I'm talking about is making safes tax free. Obviously you don't have to keep every single gun you own locked up in a single big safe. Theres also all sorts of options these days to secure a single pistol or other gun, especially when it comes from keeping kids from getting ahold of it and still giving the owner pretty easy access

@@user-mx5we9ne8k you're badddd
@@user-mx5we9ne8k yeah, let's not change any of the gun laws. Let's not make any effort to actually reduce the number of guns being produced and put out into the world. Let's let that number of firearms continue to grow and grow until they're coming out of our ears and we can't so much as look at someone the wrong way without getting shot by a kid or an ex, or even a random guy in the supermarket because they're just fucking everywhere.
It's clear that the existing laws about the purchase, safe storage, education on proper use and the transfer of firearm ownership are blindingly ineffective. Your country's investment in providing free access to the mental health treatment that every gun-lover hides behind after each and every mass shooting, is simply non-existent.
But hey, there's a 2nd amendment for a reason, right? And it IS a right, right? Oh wait, it specifically states a WELL-REGULATED militia. As an Australian who is constantly in shock over how little you idiots over there REALLY value a human life, I am amazed that any single one of you can honestly call your current situation "well-regulated".

The guy in the a&m hat nailed a ton of good points on mental health.
Everyone always talks about "mental health," but society is collapsing around them, and no one ever connects the two things.
My children are all basically acrobats and can get to any place in my house and I have randomly found them digging through almost all of the places in my house (especially the three year old) when I am cooking or cleaning, he actually is good at noticing when I won’t see him. Automatics are a tricky thing on one hand when it comes to trained lethality there is basically a negligible difference(when we consider automatic rifles and carbines) and on the other it means that an untrained shooter has a higher likelihood of inflicting unintended casualties
So from my current perspective some degree of firearm competency must be adequately tested before you can own a firearm capable of automatic fire
Mag bans are Uber cringe and shouldn’t exist
Apparently you don't realize how many unintended victims there are in Chicago from shootings...
Oh hush you're dumb... Anyone claiming that lethality should be a metric by which we regulate legislation is comically ignorant. You sound like a 14 year old kid, with the entirety of their knowledge on the topic being skewed, regurgitated positions by people online. Why is the M4 primarily not select fire in service? It's because for the most part our servicemen aren't really trained in small arms. Their lack of training reduces the likelihood inflicting casualties, requiring the majority of firearms to be semi auto, while the select fire are relegated for those "trained."
No competency is required when it comes to exercising a constitutional right; ownership isn't a privilege. This ignorant position why why Oregon just past the more restrictive legislation in the United States. Your logic is what normalizes encroachment, and creates the mother of slippery slopes.. Review the legislation that passed in Oregon this week, and the direct correlation between your logic and the new restrictions.
You are aware of current laws around automatic weapons right now, correct
I don't think that Auto should be banned but I see it as more of a safety issue. If a remedial individual is playing with a gun and ends up holding the trigger down in panic a semi will only discharge 1 round, but I've seen videos of people playing with full autos and that situation goes very differently when the gun starts jumping around and spraying bullets everywhere.
@@rtreyk of course and in the current form they are nonsensical blatant infringements on the second amendment
Is there a word for the moment in every destiny debate when his interlocutor realizes they don't know wtf their argument is/they're in over their head in the discussion? Seems to be a common theme its like 100% to 0% charisma real quick.
A few points.
Safe storage for children in the house. This initially doesn't sound like a bad idea. Except every gun sold comes with a free lock that makes the gun inoperable without a key. And if you don't have one. A local gun store will give you one for free. A safe on the other hand. Is largely an extreme cost compared to the gun some might buy, especially when considering the issue has already been dealt with.
The real issue at the heart of negligent death by children with firearms is education and the actual point of gun ownership in the home.
If something happens I don't want to have to fumble with a lock and key or pin code if the time comes I need my firearm.
In some regards its like making car owners take their wheels off when they park. One of the points of having it is to be able to use it at a moments notice.
As for education. There are many dangerous things in the house that are difficult to seperate from children. Like a oven. But we teach them that's it's dangerous and not for them. I imagine the majority of these negligent deaths the children has not been taught the same about guns.
In the end the problem has already been solved with free safety hardware.
Point two about electronic records and the atf, private sales and form 4473. The atf isn't even supposed to have a firearm registry. There are many reasons why this is so. And many 2a supporters are against changing it. The most relevant and one that I think you can agree with. Recently the California doj "leaked" the addresses and names of every conceal carry permit holder. Frankly, they can't be trusted with the information.
Also, How often are firearms found at the scene? This doesn't seem to be something that is likely to me. Even then, how many firearms have the serial number defaced or removed. More likely I would guess a firearm is found with a suspect or elsewhere, and DNA evidence is far more usefull than an ownership trace. This seems like giving the government a large chunk of our right to privacy with very little gain in stopping crimes.
As far as just try it and if it doesn't work we will get rid of it. The NFA, passed in 1934 and the gca of 1986, have been responsible for the majority of petty gun control. Silencers, short barreled rifles and shotguns, pistols with stocks or vertical foregrips and much more ridiculous "tax" law has been present for almost 100 years and we are no closer to changing these dumb laws.
If further gun control is passed without sunset clauses they will not likely be changed back without Supreme Court intervention.
You also have some major enforcement hurdles with the private sales issue. We have some 400 millions guns or so in private hands. More each day. How do we know when these were sold. If I have a rifle that's changed hands 3 times since it's last tracable connection, how will anyone prove it hasn't traded 15 more hands before a private sale 4473 is enacted.
As for home made firearms. This is as American as baseball and apple pie. The great American firearm pioneers like colt and browning and winchester all started as dudes in their garage. And this is happening everywhere. 3d printers are only half of it. There are now 3d printer sized cnc machines that can make a complete regulated firearm part out of a hunk of metal. And even then, it can all be hand cut. Everything else can be mail ordered to your house from thousands of different sellers across the nation and or world.
As for the gangs not using 3d printing tech. That's because it's far easier to do what they always have, if 3d printing becomes easier, it will be used. Same for the Mexico thing. Sure guns aren't coming north now, but if america suddenly changed and it was harder to get guns in the states than to ship them north. Of course it would become a part of the cartels black market.
In the end. I think there are valid argument against your point that's you haven't heard. These are what I think some of them are.
The sound that 2nd guy was making from his dry mouth was driving me INSANE

Honestly, a lot of gun control laws makes little sense. A lot of them are only there to make law abiding people unable to have and carry guns, laws that are so confusing that it entraps citizens and they suffer large fines or years of prison, or laws there to milk money from legal owners.
Ex: suppressor, SRBs, short shotguns, conceal carry licenses in certain states, caliber restrictions (no 50 cals), laws against pistol grips, ammo restrictions, mag cap restrictions, serialized firing pins, telescoping stock restrictions, etc. All these laws only affect law abiding citizens negatively and doesn't make them any safer.
They absolutely do make people safer. In general, restricting access reduces market, even if people buy it illegally. If it “only impacted law abiding citizens” and didn’t reduce crime at all, everyone other country that tightly regulates guns would have the same, or worse, gun crime that we do, but that’s just not the case.
Now, is it worth it/ought we limit these freedoms in order to get that increase in safety? That’s a different question, but it’s pretty undeniable that all things equal, run restrictions make countries (or states) safer.
I think it's all lip service to say they did something. The suppressor thing alone shows that the lawmakers and public has never heard a suppressed gun, you can't sleep through it like in the movies. And thinking full auto is all that dangerous compared to semi(there's a reason rifleman in the military never use full auto).
None of them really make sense, it's all just political games and misunderstandings
@@tarzanizcool I'm not saying all gun laws are useless, but a lot of them don't make you safer or if they do, it makes such a small difference that the loss of freedom isn't worth it. The restrictions I listed, all of those don't make you any safer in a meaningful way.

For the suicide discussion point - the issue with guns is its one of the methods which is quick, and fairly final. Pills, drugs, cutting, etc. etc. all have a delay between the doing and the finality.
Before I start this, this is the first time I have seen Destiny talk while not playing a game.
I genuinely didn't know this was him
Didn’t think buying a safe was gonna be so contentious.
I'm not sure if this is true, but every gun that I've ever purchased has come with a gun lock in the box. It's a bendable cable wrapped in plastic that goes through the action and out the magazine well then the end of the wire goes into the lock. Makes the firearm inoperable.
I got a conceal carry permit in PA and didn't have to do anything more than pay money. I thought that was crazy.
I agree. In my eyes, guns should be held to a similar standard to vehicles. Registration, permits, licenses, tests, and regulation. It blows my mind that as far as the government is concerned, owning a gun is about as dangerous as owning an ice cream cone
That is crazy, I can just carry mine in Texas, cause I own it
@@HawtLS Cars and driving are not constitutional rights. Gun ownership and the 2A literally is. It's literally the only constitutional right that states "Shall not be infringed"... infringed definition is to control or restrict.
25 free states as long as you are not a prohibited person as defined you can carry concealed without a permit. The 2A is literally our permit. Most these states crime went down and also didn't turn into this wild west, mad max, apocalypse as you guys think permitless carry causes.
@@S1D3W1ND3R015 In DC Vs Heller SCOTUS stated that guns can be regulated.
The problem with ERPO laws is that some of them mean that firearms are taken without satisfying due process. There is a story of 1 person critical of a doctors office had his firearms taken because the doctors office representative claimed the person making a complaint was crazy.
What's wrong with that? If he had used his gun we would be screaming " why was he allowed a gun".
@@paintspot1509 I wouldn't as due process was violated regardless if evidence of instability was shown or not. The whole point of due process is to be able to safe guard your freedoms and not give them away as privileges.
That dude hating on the base building skills killed me 😂
I work at a pawnshop. 😂 rarely do we get gun seizures. 😂 and I work in the hood.
6:28 😂 well they really did think about it lol
4473s and the serial numbers are only supposed to trace the firearm to the point of purchase meaning the gun shop not to the person who bought it
You’re slowly becoming my new favorite person.
Suggestions like Destiny made about providing proof of being able to lock your guns up sound good. The problem is there are so many laws that could theoretically save lives of children but no one would agree they are good laws. So many kids die from drowning every year in America. I think there should be a law that until you provide the government with proof that your child has passed level 5 swim lessons from the Red Cross, your kid should have to wear a life jacket 24/7. This law would save many lives. Who would not be in favor of this?
But if you were not watching ur kid when they had no swimming experience at a 6 feet deep pool/lake/Ocean. That would be absolute neglect. That would be a better comparison to not locking up ur guns in a safe when you have children that get into places. Not only that, but children finding ur gun can also hurt other as well
@@HienLe-zc6hu Yes and parents can often be charged for neglect if something happens but there are levels of intervention that are inappropriate. For example the government could mandate a number of things before people are allowed to have children but that's a clear violation of people's rights.
@@Nathan-ok1dq is it violation of human right if we are asking for min. Safety standards. Like it isn't a violation of right that we mandate children seats for children under a certain age and seatbelt. Why is it inappropriate that we ask that parents require lockup of guns when there are children in the house?
@@HienLe-zc6hu You could make the argument that seatbelts are, but there's a stronger argument for regulation of public roads than there is for private households. While the law will often punish parents who behave irresponsibly it feels hard to argue a compelling governmental interest in this considering more children die from drowning each year than from accidental gun deaths. That's not saying that safe storage isn't important, just that government would need to show why it's justified in curtailing rights (what about poor people, etc...).
Terrible example. It is the law to provide life jackets where nessisary.
1:11:23 - Best conversation by far.
i want a pic with destiny and crowder both with their change my mind tables set up on opposing sides glaring at each other.
6:20 Every single firearm is already required to be sold with a way to secure it, regardless of whether or not there is a child in the home. Every gun has a cable lock in the box, no need to purchase anything else.
Guns in the house are often "in use" as they are defensive items that cannot be behind a barrier that will deprive you of seconds when seconds count.
Yeah I'm tired of that argument. If you hear people in your house moving towards your door, you aren't gonna run into your closet, calmly input the code, and take your gun out. And if you wake up with them already in your room, you're fucked.
Out of curiosity, do you think parents should be held responsible if their kid decides to take their unsecured gun and harm themselves or others? Because right now, a surprising amount of states have no laws regarding this, and the general public discourse doesn’t seem to hold parents accountable.
For comparison, if a child steals your car and crashes into someone or something, the parent is held accountable as if they themselves did the damage/harm.
If you decide that you want to keep your gun accessible and ready to use, you should be then held accountable if it’s MISused, just as you are in the case of vehicles.
@@HawtLS I think if we can somehow link how it would be a crime for a random stranger to walk up to a toddler and place a gun in front of them just to see what happens to that same scenario occurring in the house with family members, we'd be a little closer to bridging the gap of responsibility.

Feedback: would be Nice to See a quick edited summary pop up of what red flag laws are
Destiny is wrong about how easy it is to manufacture firearms. I do have a specific skill set as a metalworker, however, the knowledge I have know has helped me understand how easy it is to make something that can effectively kill. For instance, a extremely simple but effective firearm used in Philippines during WW2 was the slamgun or slam shotgun. Essentially it's just a couple of tubes, a nail, and a shotgun shell. If you're mechanically inclined you can build yourself a "Luty" submachinegun with parts from a hardware store. Ammunition, on the other hand, is difficult to manufacture.
Yep. Gang bangers in Chicago and Detroit were using those all the time in the 80s. A homemade gun was just used in the assassination of the former Japanese prime minister.
If every gang member or school shooter had to use a tube with some nails instead of a glock or AR-15, we’d have a lot less gun deaths.
Just search up “Brazilian bootleg gun”. That’s all you need to know about how easy it is to make a gun
Destiny trying to train for going on Rogan practicing his “Jamie pull that up”
damn as soon as the guy said "force multiplier" I knew this would be great.
Steven you have the patience of a saint cuz I would of already lost my shit
Psycho.
In Australia we still have guns, they were successful at keeping illegal guns out.. We are an island, importing crates of illegal guns is damn near impossible & not worth the effort/expense..
Also. Those of us with rifles must keep in a safe! Breakins it's very rare for a weapon to be stolen!
Guy at 9mins in was sick; super chill, very well spoken, seemed educated, civil, etc.... awesome convo!
That's me! I was really excited to get the opportunity to talk to Destiny, I was a little disappointed that we didn't disagree more and I felt there where a couple of things I wish I had communicated better or expressed differently, but all in all I felt pretty good with how the conversation went. Really appreciate the positive feedback

Arguing that being anti electronic gun registries isn’t dumb if you look at how registries have gone historically even in modern day
