Destiny didn’t destroy him, once Vince brought up the CDC defensive gun uses he lost. Destiny of course weaseled out of that by saying we don’t know how many of them were successful.

@@angelluis762 It's not weaseling out though. Neither could make an argument about whether or not using a gun to defend yourself is successful or not because very clear data on the matter simply doesn't exist. The difference is that Destiny acknowledged it while Vince lives in a fantasy world.
Small edit: I changed it so it says "clear data on the matter doesn't exist" from "no data" because that better describes what's going on. What Destiny used in that other debate obviously uses a specific definition of what "successful" means, therefore I wouldn't want to go all-in here since there is a discussion to be had about any study of course.

I put it in quotation marks because his academic rigor was questioned multiple times by his peers and colleagues. Also, he is an economist, that doesn't give him any more insight in the fields of philosophy or law, where the root of gun ownership should be debated in.
So someone who is arguing outside his field, is known in academic circles to not work academically and was very likely funded by the very people he seems to defend against all academic discourse is in fact someone that should beat the very least questioned solely on the basis of who he is, not what he says. When I rad about the guy, I wasn't interested in hearing the rest of the debate anymore, purely from an academic standpoint because to me it seems like Binder Andy got himself some NRA yesman that is an academic in a field that has very little to do with guns.

For example: If I like eating curtains, for no apparent reason, like I really just want to eat curtains all day, someone comes along and asks me why, then I'm always looking for explanations:

2. This study shows that some kids who actually chewed on pieces of curtain before scored higher on their SAT scores.

Once you control for any reasoning they have, it always comes back to the irrational bias towards race. For example: If they say, "I think we should deport African Americans because they tend to be criminals." Just ask why not deport all criminals?
They will always push back because they know they would be deporting tens of millions of whites as well.

I don't want to get into it the whole argument of how race is socially constructed and what not, but a racist white guy in america will 100% have more in common with a black american than a Swede in Stockholm or a Bosnian in Sarajevo, yet the racist white has a logical preference for them just because they share one common gene that reduces the amount of pigmentation in their skin? The racist's "tribe" should reasonably be more defined by common beliefs, language, culture and behavior, so reasonably, an american who happens to be black would be far more socially close with the white american racist who would likely have little in common with the examples I mentioned.
Keep in mind, evolutionary despoition towards in-group preference evolved over millions of years before modern notions of race, or even before actual observable racial differences even existed. The modern notion that different "tribes" can be distinguished by something as relatively recent as biologically different appearances is just that- modern and it is erroneously used by race (((realists))) to justify their stupidity.

Something I wish they touched on was schools, since they did rather focus on overall/gang related rates. From what I can tell, the discussion is always sparked around gun control when another major school shooting occurs, rather than when a gang somewhere wipes out another gang.

Funnily enough, seems like John disagrees with most of the studies Destiny has read due to methodology, which is a valid point, but not exactly why him and Vince disagreed last time.
Obviously, Destiny is not a scientific researcher or publisher, it's not really his job or area of expertise, so making this "debate" about methodology is really fucking pointless and a one sided conversation, since only one person in this call really knows what they're talking about when it comes to that.

I've been revisiting Destiny's old debates lately, and honestly this might be one of my favorites even though I wouldn't call this a debate. I found Lott extremely knowledgeable and despite past controversy, someone who isn't driven by ideology like Vince seems to be (and Destiny, if we're being fair). Lott seems like a guy who wants things to be better. His support for legalizing drugs cements that for me, and puts him in the 100% based camp for me. Hopefully Destiny has him back on sometime.

When Dr. Lott discussed publication rated going down after tenure, I wonder how the quantity and quality rates are affected. I could completely understand if the volume goes down, but longer studies or more in-depth studies are published.
