Recorded live at Salzburg Festival, 14 August, 1949
Yes, indeed. The recording had a very good sound prior to restoring, but as it usually happens with old sound sources (this one must have been recorded using early tape technology), it sounded harsh and lacked of bass. So I re-equalized it and used a bit of compression/expansion and almost nothing of noise reduction. The result, at least to me, is that it seems as if the singers are just whispering right next to your ears. I'm glad you like it.

Grandissima esecuzione verdiana del Maestro von Karajan!! Bravissimi tutti. Roswaenge, criticato per la pronuncia, ha cantato nella stessa maniera con Toscanini/ BBC1938. Se è stato gradito dai due grandissimi Maestri.....che altro aggiungere. Vorrei che questo video raggiungesse le stesse visualizzazioni di quello della Scala. Grazie Maestro von Karajan e grazie a tutti gli altri componenti VV :o)

Very exciting performance. The ladies, Hilde Zadek and Margarete Klose are both wonderful. While the voice of Christoff will always be associated with the music of Mussorgsky, his singing brings the drama that the Requiem requires. I enjoyed Helge Roswaenge's performance.
Christoff always sounds like Godunov to me. I prefer Ghiaurov.
Grande "canna" Rosvaenge !! ma la sua dizione è "particolare" anche in lingua latina. Pazienza per il Maestro von Karajan. Il Maestro Toscanini l'aveva già apprezzata una decina di anni prima. Grazie ReSoundWorks per questa stupenda incisione.

All the singers have to much Dramatic Voices! Not Enough Suppless, Softness, Flexibility! People here have no Experiences ! Listen to De Sabata! The best of them all! He Truly Knows What Verdi Wanted!Even Better Than Toscanini! Believe me! Not About The music but, The Solist!
