Thanks for the video, very helpful. To reduce the glue mess I first stretched the gasket a bit and dry fit the gasket on to the drum. With the gasket on the drum I turned the drum upside down on a big enough table for the full drum and pulled out sections (about 4-6 inches at a time) of the outer gasket and injected the glue under the pulled-out outer gasket and let it settle in, not fighting gravity this way. Then slowly rotating the drum on the table I systematically pulled the outer gasket out in 4-6 inch sections and injected the glue into the gap that then settled in. Kept rotating on the table until the initially glued section came around in a few minutes. With the glue then fully injected under the outer gasket surface I turned the drum back up with the new gasket on top and checked that the outer gasket surface was tight with the drum. No fuss no muss.
Nice video as usual. One comment, I would recommend that before you start glueing, stretch the entire seal completely around the drum and hold it in place with clamps, clothes pins, duct tape, something! Otherwise the glue step can get very messy as you try to stretch it around at the end.
Pro tip. Had to do this today and was fighting the felt until I caught this comment. Thanks!
Replacing these seals also dramatically improves the efficiency of the dryer. I recently replaced the front seal on my 1978 Kenmore dryer and it gets the clothes dry in a shorter time than it did before
I need to do this to my 1992 Kenmore dryer as well.
Thank you so much. A was able to do this with a little help from my husband. Overall… thanks for a great video. Really easy to follow. You guys ROCK!
Thank you so much! Done!
Great video. One understressed fact is how difficult and messy it is to apply the seal. It's a two person job. Also, many service parts are ambiguous in which way the seal fits on.
Perfect, thank you
Nice, easy to follow
Very good, thank you!
Thank you
Good video, thanks. Got a kick out of the demo using a 110 outlet, but we can toss that to assuming this is a gas dryer lol.
Would this work similarly on the washer dryer combo?
Wow, you guys make great videos. Explained very well, easy to understand and follow. I stumbled on this video - I don't even have a dryer! LoL But I will say you guys did a great job on this video!
Hi!
@@Stunt104. commenting on a 10-year old comment. Nice.
Wow I now a person that has 1k!
Good video, other than when he carries the weight of the drum with the belt. Great way to stretch it out / break it prematurely.
Have a couple of clamps ready when you put the belt on. When you are stretching towards the end it keeps pulling off.
Tom Bowler Thank you for your input.
Tom Bowler Very helpful tip, because no matter what, it will walk.
Amen to this, I did a “dry fit” using binder clips to make sure the seal was the right size. Well, tried to. It seems a little short - pops off clips as I get towards the end. I can’t tell if it’s just that finicky or if it is actually the wrong size. I cross-referenced the crap out of the part number because nothing is from the manufacturer for older models. Now I’m gonna have to get some help to hold/stretch this thing. I hope it eventually goes on.
Should both the rear and the front felt seals be replaced at the same time?
How long after you replace the seal before you can use the dryer?
What specific adhesive is used here?
Was this the front seal or back? I'm pretty sure they're not the same...
Hmmm, it better be the back one that’s been messing up my white stuff. I didn’t buy two. Argh.
Hi
I’ll never get this trash can back together
Wow; very poor video of the actual felt seal replacement. It's just a simple as placing glue on 12 to 14 inches of the drum and Shazaam, instant installation! No tips or tricks to installing the seal without mess or avoiding common mistakes or problems?
