Sounds counterintuitive, but to have a more controlled pour, try flipping your fluid containers 180 degrees so the hole is “on top”. This allows air to easily replace the void in the jug caused by the fluid leaving and prevents the “glug-glug” splashing. Simple, effective, and free!
Thanks again for another straight to the point video. Just put a little deposit on a rusty rocker LBZ that I am going to fix up! Going to do an oil change first thing I get it!
I love how when you put the funnel in You said oil filter I’ve been watching your videos for like for five years now I was just looking through some of the really old ones
I thought this was gonna take 15-20 minutes to do. Apparently my old oil filter was damn near welded to the truck. That just took me 2 hrs to get it off, old filter looks like Swiss cheese and I can’t move my right arm. 🤘
Just got done doing my 1st oil change on the dirtymax!!! Used T5 and put rare earth magnets around the top of the drain bolt outside pan. Used a Mobil 1 oil filter. Primed and lubed gasket. Also put Motorkote in. Sewing machine or typewriter sound was gone.
That copper washer is actually a gasket, in case anyone would be tempted not put it back on or inspect/clean it like you did. You will almost surely have a leak if it isn't used or in really bad shape.
I found a service interval page that says to change the oil every 10K miles and Fuel filter 15K miles. In the video you mention doing both every 3K miles. Do you notice significant dropoff in performance following the recommended change intervals versus more frequent?
Performance difference would be negligible but frequent oil changes can make a great long term difference in the lifespan of your engine, changing fuel filters every 3k is very very excessive though.

When you mentioned the transmission filter - were your essentially just saying that it’s a filter you can swap out every 10k, even when you are doing a trans fluid change?
Hello. good night. i have a 2001 gmc sierra 2500 duramax 6.6 diesel with 246k miles. the oil pressure is 20 all the time at 600 rpm, but only by accelerating and raising the rpm to 1000 or 1100 the oil pressure rises to 45 or 50 and even reaches 60 if the rpm rises to 2000, do you think it is? Is this normal or is there a problem? he doesn't smoke or anything
I’ve seen many of your videos and very helpful!!! I have a couple duramax trucks, the 07 classic which is my daily work truck and I also have the 2015 that sits in my garage 95% of the time, I use synthetic motor oil since new, it has 28,000 miles on it. I have always changed the oil when it pops up but I probably only drive it between 1500-2000 miles between oil changes. I never had a problem changing it but since it’s kinda hard to find at stores at the moment, should I just reset the oil reminder or replace the oil when it asks for it.
Why do you change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles? Do you also change the fuel filter that often as well? The interval should be 5-7,500 or so for the oil and oil filter, 45,000 for the transmission spin on filter and around 40-50,000 for the fuel filter.
+FROGMAN524 you are correct on the intervals it's just my preference thanks for the info maybe I should have told the audience that in the video but from what I have been told by transmission tech's it's always good to change the filter every 10k
+Richard DeRiso All based on ISO testing standards. The CAT is a 5 micron (98.67% efficiency) & the Baldwin (BF9882) & Racor (PFF50216)/AC Delco (Old part # TP3012) fuel filters are 4. The 1st thing is the service air bag light came on the other day. I heard there are sensors in the front and under the seat somewhere. What am i looking for exactly and is it and where should i start and is it an easy fix? Thanks man.
best video yet wrench sizes and quart amounts are nice. Still dont know why you dont use t6 instead of that t5 rotella. not much more money but much better oil.
I stood in Walmart, then eventually AutoZone today contemplating this very thing. I couldn't find the T6 in 15W-40. So i went with the T5. I only saw the T6 in 5W-40
Tigersfan829 He's using conventional oil. Sure 3K is overkill on conventional or synthetic oil but 5K miles on synthetic isn't on your gas engine? (No need to answer that) The OLM is calibrated using conventional oil & the OLM isn't based on miles.
HERPY DERPEDY I change oil on mine when it gets down around 10-15%. Mines an ‘09 and I pull a 38’ 5th wheel with it. Don’t need to run synthetic oil. A waste of money. Combustion by-products in Diesel will break down the synthetic oil just as fast as conventional 15-40.

You didn't mention tightening the oil filter, "hand tight" or 3/4 to on full turn after the gasket makes contact. Never tighten with a wrench or you may never get it off again, right?
Technically doesn't matter as long as it's Rotella due to it having zinc in it, that along w/ Caterpillar oil are the only ones to have zinc which is best for all vehicles. I've used Rotella in my dirtbikes, streetbikes, cars, suburban for 15 years w/ no problems at all.

Brian Nolton I work at a GM dealer. I would not run 5k on rotella. that oil is nasty after 2000 miles. I would only go 5k on Delvac or Delo. they hold up a lot better then rotella. in my 08 LMM at 5K my oil still comes out with a gold tint. if u change it at 3k. it comes out like new oil. I've used rotella a lot in the past in brand new trucks. and it's completely black as soon as I start it up after the first oil change. I kept using rotella cuz I was told it was the best diesel oil and was told all diesel oil turns black as soon as you start them. I'm happy with how clean my oil comes out.
thank you for the advice. i used mobile 1 full synthetic. thats what they recommended at napa. which should i use next for the 2003 lb7 drama. delvac or delo? thank you so much for the help!
Brian Nolton .. either one would be fine. the Chevy dealer I work for has Delvac . but I run Delo in my LMM. both are really good oils. but I feel like Delo is just a little bit better.
every 3k miles???? dude my lly has run 7.5k but mostly 10k intervals and has 225k trouble free miles other than waterpump... had maybe 6 oil analysis along the way last one at 30k miles, results came back like new and everytime said i could get more than 10k out of the oil... same oil whole life Rotella t4,5 or 6 its whole life!!!
My mechanics brother had an lbz and they would use all 3 gallons in it. (12quarts) he changes my oil so I started using all 3 gallons too. Did that for over 100k with no problems till Walmart came out with the 2.5 gallon jugs for 55$
Good Video. Since you mention , the transmition filter, do you have a video about that? Every how many miles a transmition oil should be change? Thank you for sharing your videos
Toni Esquivel did you find an answer to this? That's about what mine has and I have the 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500hd classic with the 6.6 L diesel and I'm not sure if I should use full synthetic or what he is using I just don't know
Tyler Essary if your engine has a oil leak then running full synthetic will make it leak more than conventional I have a 07 with 967k on the odometer and I've only ever used full synthetic I'd recommend trying out full synthetic for a week then checking the oil level for leaks and such.
ely K. Actually I have the original engine and tranny regular oil changes and flushes have helped me so much! One thing is that the body does have some rust around the front fenders but that's just weight reduction "wink wink"
Dont go to synthetic if you've never used it before. There's a very high change you'll end up with a leak. Just use what you've always used. Once your vehicle is over 100k, if you haven't used sythetic then don't start now.
J Dog Push the Info button (looks like a car with an "i" next to it) until you see the "Oil Life" display. Then, hold the Check Mark button. If you don't have these buttons, there's a brake/throttle sequence that will remove the light.
J Dog turn the key all the way to auxillary (just before you turn to crank) pump the gas pedal 3 times and itI should show up on the display that oil life was reset
I would like to see your oil filter wrench loosening the oil filter. I would like to see how tight your oil filter is initially. I am on a mechanic and believe me this is probably where I would have some trouble. I’m sorry if this is petty You can call me Clark Griswold because the smallest thing wrong with me. Ha ha
Another reason 4 me not to go with Chevy. I can't stand their choices of metric size bolts. All European and the Japanese car makers at one point used few common sizes for ease of maintenance. 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 17, 19mm were all you needed to work with on 99% of their cars. In a pinch, you could use a standard wrench to get you by. 5/16, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 3/4, 7/8, would sometimes get you out of a jam. Then, one day GM decided to go Metric and screwed the pooch with 15mm and16mm. WHY? I guess they want to be special.
I just bought an 07 Duramax and am a newbie to diesel trucks. Your videos, especially this one and the fuel filter, have been a great help.
+John Gay awesome! welcome to the team if you have any questions email me I'm glad to help you out

Make sure the o ring from the old filter is not stuck to the engine. You dont want to double up when placing new filter.
Thanks again for another straight to the point video. Just put a little deposit on a rusty rocker LBZ that I am going to fix up! Going to do an oil change first thing I get it!
I always recommend starting the vehicle again after the oil change is complete, then check the oil level to ensure it is correct.

Also, the oil drained definitely didn't look like 3k oil.

Is it nessicary to fill the filter with oil
Why is the oil black?
Which is better 15w40 or 5w40 and what would be the difference
I believe it’s the temp it will freeze.I don’t think you will have a issue if you don’t love where it doesn’t freeze.

do you ever tighten the oil filter past the hand tightening??
+Josh Wilson never
i guess i didn't know this.....is this recommended on gas engines as well?? I've always used a filter wrench, and put a good torque on it.
Josh Wilson I always go a half turn past hand tight. One time I didn't, wound up with an oil leak at the filter.
Do you have to prime the oil filter by putting oil in it or can you get away with not doing that
It just eliminates those few seconds it takes for the oil to fill the filter then get to the engine.
You change the fuel filter every 3000 miles? Pretty sure the manual says like 15000ish
I couldn’t afford that haha
Do you recommend the triple protectant rotella over the synthetic?
Rotella is the best. T6 due yourbengine right and it will do you right all Diesel engines
You didn't mention tightening the oil filter, "hand tight" or 3/4 to on full turn after the gasket makes contact. Never tighten with a wrench or you may never get it off again, right?

every 3k miles???? dude my lly has run 7.5k but mostly 10k intervals and has 225k trouble free miles other than waterpump... had maybe 6 oil analysis along the way last one at 30k miles, results came back like new and everytime said i could get more than 10k out of the oil... same oil whole life Rotella t4,5 or 6 its whole life!!!
What’s wrong with being cautious it’s his money he can spend it and change it every day if he wants to
@@jonathanharger7430 🤣
My mechanics brother had an lbz and they would use all 3 gallons in it. (12quarts) he changes my oil so I started using all 3 gallons too. Did that for over 100k with no problems till Walmart came out with the 2.5 gallon jugs for 55$
+Pig Slayer great advice thanks I will try that out
Look easy, thanks! What year is your duramax?
+Jose Ortega 07
I came for plug size & the sequence to turn off the change oil message. I had to look up 16mm, it’s 5/8. No sequence tho. 🤷🏼♀️
Mine is 13mm
Good Video. Since you mention , the transmition filter, do you have a video about that? Every how many miles a transmition oil should be change? Thank you for sharing your videos
Service manual says 50K miles or 25K miles severe conditions for fluid and filter
What is that red filter??
Trans filter
my 2007 duramax has 300,000 + miles. I want to know what is the best oil for my older truck with this amount of miles
I've used synethic oil for a while on my 03 durmax so far it's great
how many foot lbs of torque on the oil drain bolt
+TrollMaster300 62 ft lbs
62 FOOT pounds? wow thats more then a gas engine head bolt
Truck Master thanks man
Is it the same as the T4?
T6 is synthetic, t4 is mixed. I run t4 in my 04 lly
I didn't hear how many quarts of oil you put in. That might be useful to someone who is doing a first oil change
cjbasye he clearly says 10.5 quarts in the video. Might be useful if you'd fucking listen.
Took a 13mm to remove oil plug
I use synthetic i change my every 10k.
Thats a really long time too run the same oil!
@@jacobpowers8958 no.. if u are hauling then change it sooner if u just driving it normal basic days then its ok
@@jcporosity4764 still though 10k is alot of miles
@@jacobpowers8958 nah u be ok
Synthetic oil in a diesel is really a waste of money. A good 15-40 oil is all you need.
Has anyone installed a moonroof on a duramax?
You should do a fuel cleaning video with Seafoam.
Great video! Although you didn't show how to reset the dash oil change light???
J Dog Push the Info button (looks like a car with an "i" next to it) until you see the "Oil Life" display. Then, hold the Check Mark button. If you don't have these buttons, there's a brake/throttle sequence that will remove the light.
J Dog turn the key all the way to auxillary (just before you turn to crank) pump the gas pedal 3 times and itI should show up on the display that oil life was reset
I run John Deere 15-40... cuz I have hundreds of gallons of it
+Elliott Thiessen that's always a good problem to have
I would like to see your oil filter wrench loosening the oil filter. I would like to see how tight your oil filter is initially. I am on a mechanic and believe me this is probably where I would have some trouble. I’m sorry if this is petty
You can call me Clark Griswold because the smallest thing wrong with me. Ha ha
My plug takes a 14mm
im running t6
+Alfonso Pina did you get the triple TC with the build, is there a huge gain when you get on it?
30k miles ago... that is lol
Que puedo hacer le eche gasolina a mi duramax
Oops
Rotella sucks. For GM vehicles, use Delco, Lucas or Valvoline. In humid areas, Rotella doesn't hold up well.
Sorry bout that I meant to say I went to go get a oil change
I'd run rotella in a a ford but a Dmax not sure. probably not
Nothing wrong with Rotella oil.
boost lord i ran rotella t6 in my cummins for years, and now in my Dmax and its the best there is for the money IMO
It's supposed to take all 3 gallons of oil
+Pig Slayer no 2.5
No 2.5 gallon
It's supposed to be filled to fill line on the dip stick...no matter if it's a quart or five gallons
What do you do with the old oil?
U can take it to autozone for waste its free
