Josh, use your safety gear! All of the gear you have for your chainsaw is really cool! So is your seatbelt in your truck! You gotta use it too! It's just as important! Hahaha!
As a NC guy transplanted to the PNW I understand the theory behind your hardwood vs pine firewood statement but having lived out here for 15’ish yrs now I will say, if you’re burning well seasoned pine there’s really no problem with it. Saw a lot more chimney fires back east. Though you do get more BTUs with the hardwood
Josh, take a second bar and chain. If one gets pinched just take the saw off the bar and switch them. Lots easier, cheaper, lighter. The other thing is keep some plastic or wooden wedges and something to drive them. Also, a better way to prevent pinching. Do you carry two guns or reloads?😅😅
if ya have 2 saws...take 2 saws....if ya don't take 2 bars lol. Really I should have brought the small stihl for limbing. I don't know anyone who cuts timber or firewood that doesn't have 2 saws. On a farm you need a backup for everything...2 tractors, 2 mowers, 2 trucks....but not 2 wives lol
The soil is the driest time of the year so the trees are the driest. Sap is low and the wood is the least moist. Good time for milling the logs into dimensional lumber. Good video on the up-comming project.
Stoney ridge is back in my feed, probably ain’t seen one of these in a several years. I hit the like button that should put you back into my loop again. Can’t wait I see the progress in the farm. Last I remember you were scrapping ditches along the driveway…. Yeah it’s been a while.
Josh I have been using Diesel Power Service products for going on 3 years now and never had any gelling issues in my 1997 7.3L Powerstroke. Also I have been told by old timers to add about 16 oz of high Zinc motor oil or lubricant to a tank of diesel to counter act the wear caused by ultra low sulfur diesel fuel.
Power Service products are awesome. I’m in Alaska had no fuel issues even when parked outside at -50. We burn lots of Spruce softwood and had no creosote issue (keeping fire quite hot)
that's true about pine, but it burns too fast as well, better for fire starting. Sorry about the Go Pro. that sucks guy. I respect your safety features. You're running your farm like a commercial deal! I've never put gas in my TDI Jetta, or locked myself out of house... But I did lock myself out, on a car repair (didn't take house keys off LOL) Have a great Sunday. Wooo!
Josh, I would love for you to do a video on greasing the woods brush hog and how to get grease into all the pto zerks. Those pto covers have me perplexed.
Of course, if you would have been paying attention you wouldn't have walked out there and got clubbed by that tree 😏 😄 Glad it wasn't a bigger tree. The rule: Clear your path away from the tree to fell, and then when the tree starts to move take that path in the opposite direction (kind of quickly) (probably at least 10 ft or so). Always pay attention to what you are doing while you're cutting, and when you're done cutting (don't get distracted).
P.S. You Got a little habit of putting your thumb on the handle; you should wrap your thumb around the handle so the saw can't potentially get away from you.
I burn 100% pine here in north Idaho. I haven’t had to clean my chimney in two years now. I check it every year and there still wasn’t enough to even bother cleaning this year after two years now.
your pine out west is very different from out pine here in the southeast...don't ask me how...but it's super common to burn nothing but pine in the west....here it just causes problems
I like to burn wood and help work in fire wood. I like the heat of a wood stove..everybody who ever worked in wood has had either a major or minor accident. A couple years ago a piece of maple almost took my finger off due to pop snapping while i was running the splitter. Pop up and snapped together.
Take the wires from that fuel connection and wire them to a trailer plug and then you can just plug it into your trailer connection in the back of truck for power.
buy only non ethanol fuel.....at the end of the season drain the tank and run it dry! That's my best advice and I've never had a fuel issue with gasoline
@StoneyRidgeFarmer Thanks for your reply! Up here in Canada non-ethanol is almost non-existent (unless you're close to a marina). Ethanol absorbs water so storage longer than 2-3 months has been problematic for us. Draining the tank and running dry is a must. Thanks again.
Agree with that we got a 5075e and we were told not to run off road… not sure why but we have been listening and just getting normal. And man it hurts the wallet. Just picked up a 500i and I have never had this much fun cutting wood!!
Josh, use your safety gear!

Hahaha!
Lol...Even driving 8mph on the farm? I'm all about safety, but man I like those older trucks that don't fuss at ya
@StoneyRidgeFarmer Tell me about it! The newer the vehicle, the more annoying they are! Hahaha!
I love the way you run your farmstead. Reminds me of the way my grandfather used to operate his farm when I was a kid. Really makes me miss it.
I'm a true believer in that fuel treatment it's the best. I have ran it in 35 below temps and not gelled

Makes me want to go snowmobiling. I can smell the 2 cycle! 😁 Unique exposure to log milling! Thanks!

Watching you pulling and pulling that cord on your Stihl... brings back memories. I really recommend an Echo, starts at 1 light pull.
man...this big ol pro saw is just a tough pull....hadn't been started in months. I have an echo and it's about the same

you can send it to gopro and they can fix the screen. been there done that.

dang....you been gone for years! Welcome back!

Yep! I've got a few bottles in the shop. Nothing beats it.

you know they flip up right? I hope you do....shoot me an email maybe I can help stoneyridgefarmer.com
In advance of tomorrow thanks for your service Josh… good luck with this venture.

easy to look back and find something wrong my friend....I do my best. Thanks for the advice on the thumb...some say wrap...some say don't..it's funny

Echo...best bang for th😅e buck.
echo makes a good saw for sure...but not apples to apples with a pro grade saw like this...unless you're buying a pro echo
@StoneyRidgeFarmer agree.
Good morning
Josh, will you be having anyone helping with the lumber making with the trees that are down 👍😮😊❤
dad may come help me run the sawmill at some point
I use the same fuel supplement!

gotta be careful that's for sure my friend
I was a truck driver.
I used to use it all the time especially in the winter
Very interesting !! Allot of work but going to b beautiful !! 👍🏼👊🏻

Same to you!

oooh....smart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Overcast here at Banks crossing Ga.
Old cars and trucks better than new crap I agree 👍 💯
German saw, i prefer husqvarna. Your safety gear is good. Greetings from Austria:)
I was in the pool!
Needs more COFFEE!!!
Safety First!! 💪
Safety is always my top priority!
get a seat belt extender. they trick the seat belt system into thinking you buckled up.
yeppers....I have one in my kubota RTV
Do you use ND filters when filming out in the sun?
no sir
Hey Josh, any recommended additives for stabilizing for unleaded fuel?
buy only non ethanol fuel.....at the end of the season drain the tank and run it dry! That's my best advice and I've never had a fuel issue with gasoline

Are you not able to buy off-road diesel in your area? It is cheaper than at the regular pump.
I use off road diesel in my tractors for sure my friend...it's still costly...probably the 3rd biggest expense in keeping the farm up and running
Agree with that we got a 5075e and we were told not to run off road… not sure why but we have been listening and just getting normal. And man it hurts the wallet. Just picked up a 500i and I have never had this much fun cutting wood!!
Start your engines! Woooo!
Let's do this!
Good day to ya. Gonna blow leaves out of the gutters,,woohoo. Really fun. NOT😢
Cya peeps ❤
get that blower out!!!
Hey Josh thank you for the video woo
Can you replace the screen on your GoPro or are you just better off buying a new one Josh?
I'll probably retire this one and order the newest version....crashed the $1700 drone yesterday too!!!

Stihl all the way.
