I’m curious about the reason why they can’t have potatoes as they are a root vegetable. Our two pigs dug up the majority of my potato plants and seemed fine. 😅
Another question. The timothy pellets (can I use the timothy pellets from Tractor supply)? The reason I ask is b/c the picture on the front cover of 40 pound timothy hay bag shows a horse and I'm a bit concerned they don't eat something that is designed specifically for horses. NEW SUBSCRIBER!!
The Timothy hay from TC is perfectly fine, this is the same thing that we use. They will eat it especially when it’s soaked over night. We recently switched to the organic alfalfa pellets, which we also soak and doubles as extra protein for our piglets to promote growth without all the grain.

Can you feed them chicken bones or any leftovers from dinner. canned corn, broccoli, onions, meats, bread? Food scraps? I live in southeast NC and am searching for kunekune pigs. I have limited pasture land for them to forage; most of my land is tree wooded. Is that type land a problem? Thanks
You can feed them most anything minus potatoes, onion, and garlic. We have fed small amounts of meat but nothing large. As far as forage goes it could work really well but you may have to supplement with some Timothy hay.
What kind/brand of minerals do you feed your Kunekunes?
We started with a general swine mineral from our local feed store, but are transitioning to a brand called Thorvin.
What About piglets 2 to 3 months old is that the same amount you feed them too?
Piglets should get a higher amount of protein (over 16%, Southern States 40% protein supplement can be used to bring their protein to approx 18-20%.) to promote the healthy growth. There is no set magic amount that you should feed your pig. Pigs are all metabolically different. You should feed to condition. Start off with a set amount (so you could use this video as a start) and watch your pig’s condition. Too heavy? Cut back. Too thin? Increase. Your growing pig’s body condition it’s first year of life should be pleasantly rounded, but never overweight.
Is this Diet for Livestock Kunekunes or could someone feed this for Pet Ones aswell?

Can you feed them a round bail of hay?
Yes you can! They will use it as feed and bedding.
Hard boil your eggs before giving them to your pigs...
They did just fine with raw - all the pigs are in the freezer now!
@@WorkingAussiesHomestead my response was for others. They can’t process raw eggs and it can cause deficiencies. Save with raw potatoes and a couple other foods.
