To be honest, Decker may be my favorite UA-cam channel. Man has gotten me through some hard times. Keep being the internet personality with the best hair, man.
I first saw this movie many many years ago, and what I appreciate most is how much of it I still remember. Quite a load of excellent scenes, more than enough to forgive it's flaws.
Don't care what anyone says, this is my favorite of the series. Also when it comes down to only being able to have either Reggie or Mike played by the original actor it's Reggie who wins by a landslide.
@@markpugh6808 James Legros is a much much better actor and has more chemistry with Reggie than A. Michael Baldwin. Baldwin proved he wasn’t exactly a very good actor in Part 3 when they brought him back.
Hey Decker you should do a season event that centers around TV adaptations of movies. I already have a list you could do: - Starship Troopers Roughneck Chronicles - The mist - Tremors TV show - Godzilla 1998 - Ash vs the evil dead
I just want to say that I love Phantasm, and Decker's behind the scenes commentary really helps me know what the fuck is going on with each Phantasm film and why.

I kinda love the idea that somewhere in the universe there's a rocky red planet of weird people with brain-worms equipped with murder-mecha-balls who kill people to turn them into zombie-midgets.
Personally I love the Phantasm series, This is actually the one I saw first, then saw the first afterward. Haven't seen the 5th one yet though. Still l love the look on the mortician's face when the Gold ball shows up. You can smell what the Rock is cookin up there:)

Sal Nal for as much stick as it gets, I didn't mind ghosts of mars. My biggest problem with the film is that it was originally meant to be another snake plisskin film, Escape From Mars
"I'm pretty sure you guys stole way more than $200 worth of shit." Dude, it was the late 70s/ early 80s. $200 could buy you a kidney and a case of beer.
Yo Decker, just incase you ever have nothing to review, I suggest getting a crossover with creepy to review yongary monster from the deep. It's a kaiju movie from Korea that was made to ride gamera's coattails along with Godzilla. It's hilarious and It has so mich potential for you two. You can get the blue ray on Amazon for 16 bucks and you can even do a review on its abominable remake reptilian from 1999. Your show though, I'm just giving some ideas for the future if your out of them. Keep up the great work dude
The production values definitely seem like a step up from the original. I'm curious to see what your thoughts will be for the third entry in the series.
If you can get your hands on a copy, I’d definitely recommend the new Well Go bluray with the unrated version of Phantasm II. The priest’s uncut death scene is way more intense and brutal-perhaps even better than the original sphere kill in part one.
Because it was put out by a major studio, Phantasm II made it onto TV broadcast, at a time when the first Phantasm wasn't well known outside of horror film fans. So for a a lot of people (like me) it was their introduction to the series. Also, I'd argue it's kind of like Evil Dead II in that it's as much a remake of the first one as a sequel, thus why so many elements are revisited.
I loved this movie, when I watched it on satellite dish in the mid 80’s... this shit scared the hell out of a 10yr old... but my love for horror, hemi’s and sawed off shotguns
MID '80s?! You mean you watched it BEFORE it came out in 1988 (which was the LATE '80s)?! I jest, of course. Reggie's '71 Hemicuda is as iconic as Mad Max's '73 Falcon Interceptor. Hey! And Max also used a sawed-off! More of a standard one, but that usually does the trick. Mike sets up a shotgun trap using a Mad Max-style sawed-off. The closest I've ever come to any of that is an '89 Camaro and a double-barrel Stevens with barrels trimmed down to the shortest legal length plus a little extra (18.5"). I trimmed the barrels with a hacksaw (which was a pain) and sanded the muzzles with a disc sander (which is better than a belt sander). Reggie used a cut-off saw. We don't see him sand the muzzles, but we can assume he did. Best choice of tools would be a band saw and a disc sander. Last choice would be hacksaw and belt sander.
1:54 A ye olde Winchester 1897. 2:35 It just occurred to me that "DPS" could stand for "damage per second," "damage per strike," or "damage per Sh0t." 3:22 Phantasm references 'Dune' the novel before David Lynch even started making his movie iteration. His movie iteration of 'Dune' did that inner monologue thing. Now it's almost like Phantasm II is homaging that. Or rather, that's what I would think if you hadn't pointed out that the studio demanded the use of that motif. Studio suits always "bank on the assumption that the audience is dumb." That wasn't the reason for doing that in 1984's 'Dune'. Right?! 3:33 Phantasm II did it before T2. 5:13 They should have grabbed EVERY shotgun on that rack. Notice how one of them is a Winchester 1897, possibly the same one that was in Reggie's house. The other shotguns look like a Winchester Model 12, a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 (kinda hard to tell how long the mag tube is with all the shadows, plus we can't see the safety or the ejection port's details), and an Ithaca 37 (possibly a Deerslayer model). In the absence of semi-autos, a lever-action rifle wouldn't be a bad choice. As Mike points out, it's gotta work at close-range. 5:48 Reggie's D&D alignment is probably Neutral Good (possibly with Lawful tendencies). 6:35 2-player co-op. Support Specialist and Firebug. Oh, I'd totally be a Reggie main if there was a Phantasm game! Wait, is there one?! Probably a mod. Have you played 'Dusk'? It draws a lot of influence from 'Blood' which draws a lot of influence from Phantasm. The third episode of 'Dusk' draws inspirado from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. 8:29 The original 'Blood' directly pays homage to Phantasm with the first level. If you play as Ishmael in Blood 2: The Chosen, you can use those "cerebral B0re" Sentinel spheres to full effect. 12:22 They never establish where they got their mitts on frag grenades. Chunk uses a bunch of them in Phantasm: Ravager, but then later claims that they were "fire bombs" or something, even though they were clearly pineapples. 14:47 Why was he wearing that? That feels like a jump scare for the audience, not like a practical thing people would actually do in that situation. 14:52 More like just to phuck with the audience. 18:40 This movie did the chainsaw duel after Texas Chainsaw 2, but was the chainsaw duel in 'Mandy' homaging that or this? 19:51 Possible homage to 'The Running Man' which did that a year earlier. 20:11 I've never understood why he did that. Sure, that Masker (a type of Graver) cut his bandoleer off, but the pieces of the bandoleer are still on the floor, along with all those shotgun shells and drill bits. So why didn't retrieve some of that ammo? Or better yet, ALL of it! He went through all that trouble to make that "Dwarf Killer" shotgun (or "Reggie's Wedgie" as I call it since he trimmed the barrels to a wedge which actually wouldn't affect the pattern at all) just to ditch it after using it once. Also, why'd he put the flashlight on top where it obstructs the sight picture? And why is there no buttpad? 25:15 Totally Bubba-style modifications-go-nuts.
