It's just a low grade shipping oil to prevent rust. You must change it immediately because it does not provide proper lubrication and is not suitable for wet clutches
Steve'sSpeedShop Since watching these videos and hearing the guys talk about changing the oil immediately, I’ve always wondered the reason why. Thanks for the explanation!
I have the same motor but the 250 on a custom kart. For the fuel pump I ran a T close to the carb with a line that went straight up a few inches and returned to the tank. It stopped my fuel leak with the pump. Also a quick port job with a rejet and cheap CDI will make a huge difference. The best would be to get a mikuni carb with an accelerator pump. And make an ignition cut for better clutchless shifts. Can't wait to see the results
10:15 John has his first realization of the monster you guys are creating!?! Love the totally real reaction, with a slightly worried crackle in his voice! I think he almost fainted LMAO! This has been a great build so far! : )
I had a mechanical pump on a cam on the rear axle from a volvo b18 engine. cost like 10 dollars. it stops pumping when the carb is full and a little bit of pressure is building in the line. so when you are standing still you prime the carb by hand and when you roll it will always have fuel!
There's a screen type oil filter in that motor don't forget to clean it when changing the oil. Also it has a wet clutch so use motorcycle oil. My Lifan 200 Enduro did 72mph flat out, ran out of gearing not power. Hope this helps I love the build.
That thing is running lean as hell! Do some tuning before you melt the piston. Also, you really shouldn't run it on that shipping oil. It's for rust prevention only.
This build is awesome Can't wait till its finished and see it running down the road its going to be so cool. It should blow the dragster away I would think. Not sure about ike's 72 mph depends on gearing any word about when you guys will be on velocity channel yet??? Inquiring minds want to know. LOL
*seller says change oil immediately* "Hmm, well, I don't know why they say that, so I'll just completely ignore that instruction" Very "Cars'n'Cameras" attitude.
$ is their replacement for ignorance.. But..? Here I am enjoying these two as they stumble through their ideas, builds and fabrications:) Reminds me of my brother and myself. In the BEST way.. Envying their comrodery.
The 2 magnets on the inside of the flywheel are for the stator the single magnet on the outside is what fires the coil. Other than that love the videos keep up the good work.
Most of it is engine grease for the build. Really sticky and yes you should change it asap. Buy small engines oil and break in with that, then change it again for good measure. Sweet build Guys!
They run it to whatever rpm it goes to an call it a break in run usually tops of 30 mins, how all motorcycle engines are broke in. Also DO NOT PUT CAR OIL IN A MOTORCYCLE ENGINE, they have a wet clutch witch uses a dense oil a 10w30 weight bike oil is a different viscosity as 10w30 car oil the engines use the oil for the clutch and it helps shift i would run honda oil in it non synthetic cause thats what they call for
I agree with 2redneck, that bikes can use regular car oil with no problem if it's the right viscosity. I'm running some regular car oil in my bike with a wet clutch. But it's not quite right what you said 2redneck, ahout synthetic oil, because if you're using synthetic oil of the right viscosity, the clutch will behave mostly the same. Also there are synthetic motorcycle oils (even tho they're specifically designed for wet clutches and work much better than car oil).
Okay, thanks. I should change my original comment, because I was sure it's just about the viscosity, but I'll just leave it with your correction down here. Thanks.
can yall make a video on the 5speed go kart about how to wire the wiring harness to have the battery charged from the stator while the motor is running???
The Chinese motors are becoming more n more popular, the parts on the net are cheap and the builds can be endless...... I can't get enough of my horizontal shafted engines but these are just as sick!!!!!! Props John..
Yall been doin this what? Five years? And ya still havent bolted down that bench grinder? Or the vise for that matter lol, i dont see how you deal with it!
No, the outer magnet is for the ignition coil. The two inner magnets are for the 12vdc (or so) charging system, etc. The Flywheel (magnet) is keyed for the ignition timing.
Kristoffer Persson ever heard of beach glass or rocks?, literally gets smooth from sand. So yeah. Things can be made smooth by sand. Think before you write my guy.
it does not get SMOOTH it sands down the surface, may be "smooth" to touch but in reality it takes material away not make it "smooth" so you should fucking think before you write. and why manufacturers put sand in an engine has so much to do with beaches and rocks it is mind blowing
Kristoffer Persson you sir are very very mistaken some shipping oils do have particulates in that are like sand and that is to fix any bad edges on the gears and to also clean any parts in the engine when you swap out that oil it flushes out most of these particulates. And the analogy from earlier about the beach is correct sea glass is super smooth because of the action of the sand and stones rubbing over it repeatedly this is the point being made.
i was checking out this video and was wondering if ya'll could do a video on how you wired it up. I have this same motor and I can't get any spark or nothing
ropo..good on ya for making a try hard on the internet look stupid..i laughed at that...i think it was a unintentional burn but funny none the less..because everyone assumes english is everyones first language
Head & sides bar. Exhaust shield. Run exhaust rearward. Get another magneto (snow blower) to charge battery, run accessories. Horn button in middle of steering wheel. Cage the front to protect feet. LED all lights, easy on system, long life.
Awesome. Take it to Stanley nc to the kart racing track (dirt) and put it in the rwyb class.(run what you brung) all u need is maxxis tires a neck collar and a snell2015 helmet gloves and a jacket and see how it runs. But before u do that get up with a local kart racing team or supplier like phantom or trj have it scaled and setup (cross) and stagger a set of maxxis to a 1inch and a 1/4. Oh and pink magic tire prep seems to be the go to tire prep for the Carolinas
Yes, change the oil. It is only like $4 for good, new oil and then you can know how old it is, for the next change. And can you get a tachometer for it? And If you turbo it, it will not leak gas from the carb, Or do: Turbo Big Bore Kit Cam Port & Polish Shave The Heads e.t.c. (can you do a spin-the-wheel to chose what up grade to do first?)What other Ideas do you all have? :P
For that particular fuel pump you need to get a fuel pressure regulator. That thing puts out a higher fuel pressure than you need. I used one of those on a 460 ford and it would push too much fuel to the carb at idle.
Last time I was this early John loved my comment. Some rumours say so as well. Btw when you wind up changing the oil you should use motorcycle specific oil because it contain special additives to better protect the clutch pack which is submerged in the engine oil. You wanna make sure that the oil you use has the so called MA2 specification for motorcycle oils. Also I believe you should run a fairly thick 15w50 grade oil since the engine shares the same oil with the transmittion.
Probly not a good idea to rev the crap out of a brand new engine with that shipping oil in it. Or at all. Just shortened the life of that engine. Please build a man sized 4x4 full suspension off road buggy something not kid sized please that would be awesome to see
John Smith where the money to pay for some fuckin shit like that? You it? You gonna donate it to them? Didn't think so. Johns a college kid and Ike's a mechanic. So that much money to completely build a 4x4 buggy. It'd be easier to by a destroyed jeep, strip it like a trail truck and build a roll cage. And even that's not gonna happen. There's no way dude
I think the 2seater buggy build idea would be great!!! If they built frame with a tube bender or a $500 pre-bent tube kit. I wonder which would be cheaper? Also fab most of their own parts( front suspension, independent rear suspension,et,..). Ike probably bend the tubing himself, he good at that sort of thing. Joh gotten perty'good welding too! The dynamic duo 🤪.. The cost of a project would easily $5-$10k. but it's nice to dream I guess.
Capacitor discharge ignition (CDI) or thyristor ignition is a type of automotive electronic ignition system which is widely used in outboard motors, motorcycles, lawn mowers, chainsaws, small engines, turbine-powered aircraft, and some cars. It was originally developed to overcome the long charging times associated with high inductance coils used in inductive discharge ignition (IDI) systems, making the ignition system more suitable for high engine speeds (for small engines, racing engines and rotary engines). The capacitive-discharge ignition uses capacitor discharge current to the coil to fire the spark plugs.
Regarding the oil change right-out-the-box, It could be that they put a cheap oil to prevent rust but doesnt have the correct weight, additives, etc. to properly protect the motor from heat and pressure of combustion. It may be peanut oil..
Despite doing a whole lotta things differently from how I’d do them, what I like about you blokes is that there’s no BS. Just chuck it together. As we say in Australia, “She’ll be right mate.” Great entertainment. Oh and Do ya think you could get Ike to say, “ Are you boys whackin off in my caravan?”😂 Keep em comin fellas.
Yeah, responsive! Man, that thing is gonna rip! Was wondering if you couldn't mount a piece of curved sheet metal, or maybe repurpose a section of old ductwork (?), to use as a heat barrier/firewall between you and the motor. Hard to say, might look cool too though. Anyway, awesome build guys!
Loving it guys! I would like to ask you about, whether you have ever considered using a liquid cooled or fan cooled snowmobile engine one one of your builds? Sled engines use CVT transmissions and they can be adjusted to be wheelie monsters. The snowmobiling world has some pretty insane horsepower mods for most engine types, the 440 l/c suzuki out of 90's arctic cats were torque monsters!!! Would be interesting to do a snowmobile engine turbo cart. Also would you care to address the michigan two-stroke scene as detroithoodtv shows us some pretty cool builds. It would be cool to see you guys try the dragster against some of those guys. Thank you for the great content over the years. -Lou
PS I am from Maine, but the michigan scene looks to be a bunch of friendly guys who help each other out, and its not so much about speed as participation and having a good time. would be excellent if I lived closer :(
Yeah, unfortunately that isn't gonna happen. I can always wish though, right? I was just trying to get Jon and Ike to comment on the detroit 2 stroke scene since they do the same thing..build karts, bikes, ect. Some of the detroit machines are sketchy af but...won't they GO lol
How could i forget the conversation that takes place at 15:20? I was literally LMAO! Ike, your reaction is classic. I could see the gears turning. I think i had the same thought as you. It's ghetto, but actually seems logical... For the entertainment purposes, keep it real fellas! That's what makes the channel great for me : D
It's just a low grade shipping oil to prevent rust. You must change it immediately because it does not provide proper lubrication and is not suitable for wet clutches
Steve'sSpeedShop beat me to it lol 👍
Steve'sSpeedShop amen brother................
Steve'sSpeedShop Since watching these videos and hearing the guys talk about changing the oil immediately, I’ve always wondered the reason why. Thanks for the explanation!
Figure these guys would know about this kind of thing. Especially Ike. He should know.
Exactly right Steve
I’ve been here since the old shop & every time Ike throws together some random stuff & it works i get so hype
Moneymaker1939 negative remember that shed??

Your hand grinding/fabbing skills never cease to amaze (horrify?) me.
It'll be fine.
Drew never doubt the grinding capabilities my good sir

I have the same motor but the 250 on a custom kart. For the fuel pump I ran a T close to the carb with a line that went straight up a few inches and returned to the tank. Love the camera slap for day change.
Its a great channel, looking forward to your upcoming vids.
Always feels as though i'm waiting months for a CarsandCameras video, Finally I get my 19 minutes of happiness.
Matthew Bensemann ❤️
LOL I love Ike’s face at 15:29 in response to johns question about fuel return 😂
not the inside magnet, theyre for charging or lights. the outside magnet is for the coil.
I'm sure that it was a quick and unintentional error.
If you work that much on engines ,its a real fault
Was going to say that!
your neighbors must love you
220 Motorsports depends on the engine some are outside and some are inside
sounds peppy, excited to see how it puts the power down!
Isaac is the voice of reality. Three wheels and 90 MPH = Death. That will Not be fine! Yay, Isaac!
There have been three wheel LSR vehicles driven in excess of 700 mph.
Look at the colors on that exhaust oh my god and the flames just a beast
Im gonna be building a 400whp 4-500kg drift street buggy and maybe a similar gokart to you guys, im in love with your channel tbh
I had a mechanical pump on a cam on the rear axle from a volvo b18 engine. cost like 10 dollars. it stops pumping when the carb is full and a little bit of pressure is building in the line. so when you are standing still you prime the carb by hand and when you roll it will always have fuel!
that's a badass cart! looks sick can't wait to see it run
Get yourself a girl that looks at you like John looks at his 200cc.
That was the mintest comment i've seen today.
Hello how are you doing today my name Michael
They ship with vegetable oil in the case small amounts Chinese are cheap!
There's a screen type oil filter in that motor don't forget to clean it when changing the oil. Also it has a wet clutch so use motorcycle oil. My Lifan 200 Enduro did 72mph flat out, ran out of gearing not power. Hope this helps I love the build.
I dig your channel btw! That kart looks aggressive with that motor on it.
Love your videos at school right now but I am still going to watch it
Fletcher's Fixit Hey, it’s educational!
That thing is running lean as hell! Do some tuning before you melt the piston.
Also, you really shouldn't run it on that shipping oil. It's for rust prevention only.
i wish i could run every fun kart (everything you build) you guys have and build
This build is awesome Can't wait till its finished and see it running down the road its going to be so cool. It should blow the dragster away I would think. Not sure about ike's 72 mph depends on gearing any word about when you guys will be on velocity channel yet??? Inquiring minds want to know. LOL
Dooooo ittt!!!!!! Take the plastic off the trike and see what it does. And you should put the 200 against the 670💪💪

@@mikej.2803 Definately more $ than brains but its America and f%$# what they think haha
C D I, CAPACITOR DISCHARGE IGNITION. THAT SIMPLE DUDES. NO NEED TO TIE YALLS BRAINS IN A KNOT. AWESOME VIDEO AS USUAL
if you run that oil the world will end. don't do it
that and it's just for shipping and storage
The 2 magnets on the inside of the flywheel are for the stator the single magnet on the outside is what fires the coil. Other than that love the videos keep up the good work.
You are correct signal magnet coil on outside CDI box you too cool to on inside yes for Stater you're correct
Y'all are gonna catch some grass on fire with that exhaust! Lol
Anddddd just as soon as I typed that comment you said that in the video....
Most of it is engine grease for the build. Really sticky and yes you should change it asap. Buy small engines oil and break in with that, then change it again for good measure. Sweet build Guys!
Change oil before you put it under load.
That necklace tho, Isaac's a savage!
CDI means Capacitor Discharge Ignition
I love your videos it always takes my mind of things today I lost 2 nephews to c.p.s because I didn’t qualify so your videos always help

Kylee Bates that engine should be dry clutch. My older brother has one on a mini bike and that’s dry clutch

Trifiiniti it's definitely a wet clutch. Regular oil will cause it to slip. Most regular mini bike have a external centrifical clutch or cvt.
2redneck car oil has additives and detergents that make the clutch slip. It's better for motors but bad for clutches.
Okay, thanks. I should change my original comment, because I was sure it's just about the viscosity, but I'll just leave it with your correction down here.
Thanks.
can yall make a video on the 5speed go kart about how to wire the wiring harness to have the battery charged from the stator while the motor is running???
Man she sounds real good! Flame-spittin good!
TurboShotIncredible A lot of sparks, too. Which is usually piston material...
You guys are frinking incredible
You all should start doing mini bike monday

I love the new intro guys, please don't get rid of it!
Yall been doin this what? Five years? And ya still havent bolted down that bench grinder? Or the vise for that matter lol, i dont see how you deal with it!
It’s kind of a staple of the channel now
Use staples if you have to John.
As per agreement, they cannot drill any holes in the benches. Haven't you guys been watching?
"C" clamps...2 sided tape...,velcro...,bubblegum...!
Mount that F-n Grinder or else ? :/
No, the outer magnet is for the ignition coil. The two inner magnets are for the 12vdc (or so) charging system, etc. The Flywheel (magnet) is keyed for the ignition timing.
U need tp change the oil because thats the oil that basically has sand in it it grinds the gears to move smoothly atleast in europan 50cc mopeds
why would they put sand in the oil to make it smooth? that is just stupid if they did that, nothing gets smooth by sand
Kristoffer Persson ever heard of beach glass or rocks?, literally gets smooth from sand. So yeah. Things can be made smooth by sand. Think before you write my guy.

Cool build keep it up
Man you need a mini lathe!
i was checking out this video and was wondering if ya'll could do a video on how you wired it up. I have this same motor and I can't get any spark or nothing
you really should change the oil from that engine beacose those oils are just so it stays clean at storage

You guys need a motorcycle lift or something to work on. It always looks so painful for you to work crouched on the floor. Anyway - It'll be fine.
Looks fine! ... for testing purposes.
Who thinks this thing will be faster than the drag rail lol
5:27, Ike just about killed me with how casual he asked the question

what a great looking cart!
Yes, change the oil. It is only like $4 for good, new oil and then you can know how old it is, for the next change. And can you get a tachometer for it? This engine been around for a decade, different models and I've nvr heard of any of those parts being available
For that particular fuel pump you need to get a fuel pressure regulator. That thing puts out a higher fuel pressure than you need. I used one of those on a 460 ford and it would push too much fuel to the carb at idle.
Capacitor Discharge Ignition, holy crap i just realised that it looks like I'm first to comment
Where did you learn to talk to people? Do you understand how ignorant you sound?
TheDetroitSound he had it coming. Stop crying about it. I just made a suggestion and that dumbass starting cussing and bitching about it. Grow up.
It's not that much to build off roaders.
GREAT job guy turning out awesome looks like a blast
Too lean...A fuel cutoff valve installed after the fuel pump can be used to regulate the fuel flow..
I dig the fully adjustable bench grinder. It moves on the table to match the contour of your grinding 😜 lol
Well, you have just destroyed your engine
Hugster no they haven't not yet anyway
But in the long run they have, whit how much dey revved it.
its a shippin rust to prevent rust buildup! i got it in my 125cc 4 stroke and i immediately changed it when i got it!
Theres no oil in it
John Goehring I said the same thing
John Goehring it has oil in it, shipping oil but yeah
John Goehring not a drop!

i have one of these cdi's with adjustable timing... drop me an adress and some c&c stickers and its yours ;)
Like there gonna Actually send u an address over youtube for everybody to see. Lol
Here I am watching this for the first time, and this is a 5 year old video. Thanks!
Think of the CDI unit as the modern version of points & condenser. It does basically the same job digitally instead of mechanically.
awesome, cant wait to see next episode
I love your crazy ideasand love watching the cars and cameras grand pri. I'm looking for an older racing cart like this also
Intro was dope
dude that sounds sweet! Can't wait to see it driving! Sounds amazing!
It's a beast and i wish I had it
That thing sounds sick
Haven’t been exited for a project like this for a while keep it up man wish could build go kart but no welder :(
Looking good guys
I must say I love the new intro !!!!!!
Love the intro
